Abstract

The Tarakan island is geographically surrounded by seas has the potential to damage by abrasion. Potential occurring in areas affected by abrasion thus reducing the total land area. Reduced land area has caused difficulties in the development of human space activities  in  the  activity.  The  coastal  area  as  an  area  predominantly  inhabited  by fishermen to settle because it was easy access to the sea. Another advantage of the coastal region has a panoramic coastal give more value from the tourism sector, it is attracting tourists to visit. Tarakan city have coastal of binalatung  to tourist attractions as the beach, which is located in the Eastern city of Tarakan. Attraction area is exposed to abrasion so interesting for the case study research done on the impact of the erosion of the settlement. The study was conducted using remote sensing Google Earth, to the extent that it has impacted the analysis of abrasion, and the condition of the settlement around the attraction. Results obtained in the form of reviews the impact of the area exposed to abrasion with increased abrasion settlement that makes the area a tourist area. Keywords : Abrasion, Google Earth, Settlement.

Abstract

The purpose of research is to determine the content of heavy metals Pb and Cd in river waters Tarakan City. Water sampling method are using a van Dorn water sampler and sediment samples using egmen grabs. The sample extraction method by Kaushik (2009). Sampling locations are 9 rivers is Istra Buntu, Tg. Batu, Skip kampong 1, KKHM, Karang anyar, Juata laut, Juata korpri, Binalatung dan Pasar Batu. The results show the mean Pb in the water at all stations from 0.228 to 0.181 mg/L, while the average sediment from 0.280 to 0.180 mg/L. Cd levels in water averages 0.259 to 0.226 mg/L, while the average level of Cd in sediments from 0.257 to 0.233 mg/L.  Evaluation of heavy metals Pb and Cd in the water at all observation station still is above the threshold of water quality standards and the sediment is below the required quality standards.  Keywords : Sediments, Water, Status, Evaluation, Tarakan City River

Abstract

Vibriosis disease Vibrio harveyi often drops Penaeus monodon production on the traditional coastal ponds of North Kalimantan. The purpose of this study was to find out the active compound extract of Sonneratia alba fruit inhibiting the infection of Vibrio harveyi, which was tested on the larvae of Penaeus monodon in post larvae 12 through the bioerichment of natural feed Artemia salina. This study used an experimental method performed with a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) of 4 treatments and 3 replications. The results showed mangrove fruit extracts containing alkaloids, phenol hydroquinone, flavonoids, saponins, steroids and tannins. Artemia salina bioenrichment succeeded in increasing the survival of Penaeus monodon larvae 78.33% in treatment III (20 ppm). The results of water quality measurements indicate the range at the normal limit for the life of the Penaeus monodon larvae. Keywords : Penaeus monodon, Artemia salina, Vibrio harveyi, Extract Sonneratia alba

Abstract

Nowadays we were facing to the global warming which is causing climate changes. Global warming also promote by environmental degradation. Increment of human population and development on industrial realm are the main cause of environmental degradation. Wetland is one of environmental bufferwhich could enhance the environmental stress. Doing the wetland restoration is an effort to enhance ecological degradation. In this paper were discusses about wetland definition, functions, wetland restoration, effect of restoration and also some study cases of wetland restoration published by some researcher. Tidal Wetland Restoration itself could be defined as an actions taken in a converted or degraded natural wetland that result in the reestablishment of ecological processes, functions, and biotic/abiotic linkages and lead to a persistent, resilient system integrated within its landscape (Lewis, 1989). It must expect restoration could bring the better effluence to the ecology, however some time it?s not just happen like ideally. Some of the restoration activity could promote and lead the ecological degradation in the neighbor habitat from which restoration activity was conducted. Therefore to enhance the sustainability, restoration and good management should be applied in order and in good monitoring.  Keywords :  wetland, ecological, restoration, sustainability.

Abstract

Abstract

Abstract

The studies of phytoplankton primary productivity and diversity of macrobenthic fauna in different density of mangrove were carried out from May to June 2009 in mangrove conservation area, in Tarakan, East-Kalimantan, Indonesia. Content of chlorophyll-a converted to phytoplankton primary productivity by Strickland formula.  Diversity of macrozoobenthos calculated with Shannon?s Index. Phytoplankton primary productivity in high, middle and low density of mangrove are 50.13±5.53 mgC/m3/d; 45.32±6.48 mgC/m3/d and 41.48±6.48 mgC/m3/d respectively.  Shannon?s index value in low, middle and high density of mangrove are 2.24-2.61; 1.33-2.51 and 1.35-2.51 respectively.  The results of this study showed a strong correlation betweeen diversity of macrobenthic fauna and the density of mangrove (Contingency coefficient = 0.554; Sig.= 0.147)Key words: mangrove,  phytoplankton, diversity, macrobenthos.
