Aturan fonologis merupakan fenomena alami yang biasa ditemukan di setiap bahasa dunia. Terdapat sejumlah aturan fonologis, di antaranya adalah insersi, asimilasi, pelesapan, pelemahan, penguatan, dan lain-lain. Dalam penerapannya, aturan-aturan tersebut harus diurutkan untuk menghasilkan output fonetis yang gramatikal, yaitu output yang sesuai dengan aturan fonologis bahasa bersangkutan. Artikel ini menyajikan sejumlah aturan fonologis yang berlaku dalam bahasa Madura.

Being an Arab-American Muslim woman in America, Mohja Kahf has encountered not only problems in living a life which is in accordance with Islamic sharia but also the difficulties to deal with non-Muslim Americans who are often cynical with Muslim’s dress, rituals and so forth. As a poet, she expresses all her thought, feeling, hope, and anxiety in her poem collection Emails from Scheherazad (2003). This research attempts to elaborate both dilemma and aspiration of Kahf as an Arab-American Muslim woman as figured out in a number of her poems in Emails from Scheherazad. This is a qualitative research, and it approaches the poems using sociology of literature theory. Thus, it analyzes not only the issues within the poems but also cross-checks it with the relevant social subjects such as the existence of Arab-American Muslim in America, the response of American government and society towards Muslim’s way of life in America, and brief account on Kahf’s life. This research has found that the dilemmas faced by Kahf are mostly those related with wearing a scarf, performing Salah starting from descent facilities for wudu to prayer. Also, Kahf aspires for love, friendship, strong commitment to ancestor’s tradition while peacefully conforming to present locale, and humanity above all.

Language is not neutral, but it is depending on who is using thelanguage. Research on the use of language in political speeches isinteresting and important thing to do with the following objectives: ( 1 ) to describe the use of elements of language in relation to ideology and role played by political parties in Indonesia, ( 2 ) to identify power relations which was formed by leaders of political parties in Indonesia through their political speeches.The results showed that the elements of the language used in the speech demonstrated the role in term of textual analysis involving the use of pronouns , transitivity, modalities to demonstrate its power level, aspects, coherence, lexical analysi about the use of certain terms that are closely related to the life social. In terms of discourse practices, especially intertextuality, it is also used the phrase referring to a slogan or philosophy in Indonesia and the familiar to the public. In terms of social practice, in delivering his speech, the party leaders are motivated by social andpolitical conditions exist. For power relations constructed in their speeches, the party leaders do not always constant in building its power. It depends on the intent and purpose of what is delivered. Sometimes power is built on a superior position, but on the other hand it is inferior and sometimes also becoming equal. Given that language is not neutral then, the power relations also become liquid.

Drama seperti genre sastra yang lainya selalu identik dengan penggunaan bahasa kiasan dalam menyampaikan ekspresinya kepada pembaca. Khususnya drama, kalimat – kalimat dan kata – kata kias tersebut akan terefleksikan melalui dialog diantara para tokoh dalam cerita. Dari dialog yang dilakukan oleh para tokoh tersebut maka akan dapat dianalisis dan diobservasi elemen – elemen figuratif yang lain, semacam karakterisasi, struktur cerita, seting atau latar, tone, dan juga tema. Sayangnya, bagi sebagian besar mahasiswa, memahami elemen – elemen figuratif tersebut merupakan persoalan yang sulit, apalagi jika drama tersebut adalah drama klasik, seperti drama A Streetcar Named Desire karya Tennessee Williams. Dengan demikian salah satu solusi yang digunakan untuk membantu tingkat pemahaman para mahasiswa terhadap elemen – elemen figuratif ini adalah dengan cara memanggungkan atau menampilkannya dalam pentas drama di kelas. Makalah ini akan mengamati dan menganalisis strategi – strategi yang digunakan untuk memberikan tingkat pemahaman elemen – elemen figuratif dalam drama. Strategi – strategi yang digunakan tersebut terdiri dari beberapa tahap, yaitu: persiapan, diskusi, pengarahan, dan penampilan.Kemudian langkah selanjutnya, setelah penampilan, mahasiswa diberikan beberapa pertanyaan dalam bentuk kuesioner untuk mengukur tingkat pemahaman terhadap elemen – elemen figuratif mahasiswa setelah mereka menampilkan secara langsung drama tersebut.

In this article, the researcher analyzes a psychological thriller in the form of anxiety in Donna Tartt’s the Goldfinch. The researcher then uses psychological theory. The researcher analyzes the main character that undergoes a psychological worry; anxiety. At last, the researcher draws conclusion that the main character, Theodore Decker undergoes recurrent recollection(s), feeling humiliated, worry, fear, nightmares, and feelings of terror.

Idiom is a number of words which are joined together means iri.something different from the meaning of the words when they stand alone. In order to reproduce the closest natural equivalent in terms of the source context, a translator normally attempts to make adjustments in idioms due to a literal translation of idioms into another language will not make sense.This paper is mainly aimed at finding out how a translator can translate and discover the natural equivalent of English idiomatic expression. The findings show that there are two types of adjustments that are used in translating the idioms. First, by non figurative expression equivalent and second, by figurative expression equivalent.

Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengkaji tuturan guru dari berbagai perspektif. Tuturan guru adalah jenis bahasa yang digunakan guru dalam proses belajar-mengajar. Lebih spesifik lagi, penelitian ini membicarakan tentang tuturan guru dalam seting kelas EFL. Ciri-ciri dari tuturan guru, banyaknya tuturan guru dalam seting kelas EFL adalah sangat penting untuk dibahas. Hasil dari beberapa penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bahwa pembicaraan dalam kelas EFL didominasi oleh guru. Ini berarti bahwa pelajar hanya mendapatkan sedikit kesempatan untuk menggunakan target language (TL). Guru mememodifikasi tuturan dalam kelas EFL dalam berbagai cara. Mereka memodifikasi aspek interaksi, sintaktik, leksikal, dan fonologikal. Dengan menginvestigasi fenomena diatas, diharapkan pelajar dan guru dapat memperoleh manfaat.

Titanic was the most famous ocean liner in its time. It became more famous when it sank in April 1912. It inspires many authors to write literary works. One of them is Thomas Hardy who wrote “The Convergence of the Twain.” It portrays a tragedy of human pride in the sinking of the ship. Through analysis of word choice, tone, and point of view, some lessons are found: man can build and develop modern and sophisticated technology, but he will not be able to control his fate. The force of fate owned by the Almighty God is above everything.

Kegiatan penerjemahan terus mengalami perkembangan seiring dengan era globalisasi dan terbukanya batas batas komunikasi antar wilayah ataupun antar negara. Penerjamahan bukan lagi sebuah aktivitas linguistik semata, akan tetapi kegiatan penerjemahan sudah mencakup aspek aspek lain diluar bidang linguistik. Berbagai hal dalam penerjemahan menjadi bagian yang terus menerus menjadi perhatian dalam kajian penerjemahan. Trend dan perkembangan kajian penerjemahan ‘menembus” berbagai batas dan skat komunikasi antar bahasa yang berbeda. Lebih dari itu, tampaknya kegiatan penerjemahan sudah mengalami pergeseran paradigm, dimana penerjemahan tidak hanya sebatas mencari makna akan tetapi sudah melampaui batas batas yang selama ini sulit untuk ditembus. Setiap hal baru dalam penerjemahan akan memberikan dampak yang penting bagi ilmu penerjemahan, baik itu pada tataran teori maupun metodologi. Dinamika dan perkembangan ilmu penerjemahan yang dikemukakan oleh para pakar sebaiknya terus dicermati, paling tidak sebagai acuan untuk referensi sekaligus daya dorong bagi pemerhati, peneliti, praktisi, sekaligus ilmuwan penerjemahan. Ilmu penerjemahan tidak hanya berhenti pada tataran perdebatan dan pencarian definisi tentang penerjemahan itu sendiri atau perdebatan dikotomi berbagai istilah dalam penerjemahan. Perlu kiranya memperhatikan aspek aspek dan istilah yang penting dalam penerjemahan.
