Abstract

This qualitative study aimed to examine the potential impact of policies granting Indonesian top universities with special autonomy status called as Legal Entity State University, or Perguruan Tinggi Negeri Badan Hukum (PTN-BH), on their research performance. This study involved an analysis of eight national policy documents related to PTN-BH or autonomous universities, which were retrieved from a trusted government regulation database webpage. All the data were collected from existing documents, making this research a document study, with data interpretation conducted through content analysis. The findings reveal that the regulations on the requirements and procedures for PTN-BH status, as well as the policy on the funding types and schemes, have contributed to the research performance disparities between universities that were granted PTN-BH status at different points in time. The updated regulations have lowered and simplified the requirements and procedures for obtaining PTN-BH status, allowing universities with lower initial performance to apply.  Universities’ ability to comply with the funding policy of self-generating income, matching-fund, and performance-based funding system also influence the universities’ budgeting allocation, including for research activity. Lastly, the regulation on giving autonomy to universities in deciding their top managerial structure leading to various designations in assigning   a vice-rector to manage the research affairs is also a significant factor in the university’s research performance.

Abstract

The curriculum is constantly changing to keep up with existing trends. Since Indonesia officially became an independent country in 1945, there have been 12 changes to the national education curriculum. The most recent change occurred with the Curriculum 2013, commonly known as K13, which now incorporates the Merdeka Learning Curriculum. The Merdeka Learning Curriculum is introduced as a learning method that follows a talent and interest-based approach. Students can choose the subjects they want to study based on their passions, aiming to produce a younger generation in Indonesia ready to face the future and global challenges. This research falls under the category of a case study with a qualitative approach. Opportunities in the implementation process of the independent learning policy in the classroom allow teachers the freedom to fully control the class. With this independent learning curriculum, teachers have more flexibility to provide opportunities to students based on their capacities, and students are not required to be uniform in their learning experiences. One of the challenges in implementing the independent curriculum is the attitudes/tendencies of the implementers. The understanding of implementers regarding general goals, basic standards, and policy objectives is crucial. In conclusion, the independent learning curriculum provides freedom to both students and teachers in their learning patterns. In the independent learning curriculum, students are required to be more active and interactive in the learning process. An important factor for each individual is to have a complete understanding of the independent learning curriculum, making it easier to achieve the expected goals.

Abstract

This study examined the influence of educational tools in digital libraries on the personalized learning experiences of final year economics education students in public universities in Lagos State, Nigeria. A descriptive research design was employed, with the use of questionnaire tagged Digital Libraries and Personalized Learning Experiences of Students Questionnaire (DLPLESQ) as instrument of data collection. A total of 212 final year economics education students were selected for the study using snowball sampling technique. Descriptive statistics such as frequency distribution, percentage, mean, and standard deviation were used to provide answers to research questions. Additionally, inferential statistics in form of regression analysis was used to test the relevant hypothesis. The findings revealed that digital library tools have a significant positive impact on students' personalized learning experiences of students ( = 2.002; P<0.05). The study also demonstrated that that final year Economics education students are “Not Aware” of the resources in digital libraries in public universities in Lagos State Nigeria. Out of the 13 digital library resources listed, sampled students seem to be “Aware” of only three resources which are “Google Scholar”, “Oxford Academic” and “Research4life”. Furthermore, the study showed that final year Economics education students make use of the digital library resources “Monthly”. Based on these findings, the study recommended strategies to enhance the utilization of digital libraries, such as improving access to devices and internet connectivity, providing training programs to enhance digital literacy skills, and integrating digital library resources into the economics education curriculum.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to comprehend and develop a set of strategies related to the steps that will be taken by the North Kalimantan Provincial Government in achieving a Child-Friendly Province. A Child-Friendly Province is an accolade for the Provincial Government for its efforts in mobilizing and coordinating all regencies/cities within its jurisdiction to create Child-Friendly Regencies/Cities (KLA). According to the Minister of Women's Empowerment and Child Protection Regulation Number 12 of 2022 on the Implementation of Child-Friendly Regencies/Cities, KLA is a developmental system that guarantees the fulfillment of children's rights and their specific protection through planned, comprehensive, and sustainable measures. KLA is executed while considering institutional aspects and the five clusters of children's rights fulfillment. This research primarily focuses on the policy direction of KLA in the North Kalimantan Province from an institutional perspective. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative research approach and a documentary analysis study. The findings of this research indicate that the institutional aspect plays a crucial role as the primary driver in achieving KLA in the North Kalimantan Province, with attention to three indicators: KLA regulations/policies, strengthening of KLA institutions, and the role of civil society organizations, mass media, and the business community. The study also draws several conclusions and recommends strategies for achieving KLA and a Child-Friendly Province in North Kalimantan.

Abstract

Pandemic of Coronaviruses Disease-19 (COVID-19) negatively influenced the mental health particularly stress and eating disorder among medical students. Previous study focused on the relationship between stress and self-esteem or eating disorders. The link between self-esteem and stress-related eating remains underexplored in the post pandemic era. This study was purposed to evaluate the relationship between self-esteem and stress-related eating among medical students after pandemic of COVID-19. This cross-sectional study involved second and third year undergraduate medical students in Universitas Brawijaya during June – July 2022. A set of self-reported questionnaires included  Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale (RSES) and Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire – Emotional Eating Subscale (DEBQ-E) for measure the self-esteem and stress-related eating respectively. The form was filled in through online media. Students with previous history of eating disorders before pandemic as well as incomplete questionnaire data were excluded from study. Spearman correlation was used for statistical analysis. Ninety-two students filled in the questionnaire, only 34 students met the inclusion criteria. About 64.71% of students had low self-esteem. High stress-related eating identified in 41.18% students, particularly females. Self-esteem negatively associated with stress-related eating among participants (Spearman’s rho = -0.424; p = 0.017). Higher self-esteem decreased stress-related eating. Future studies are necessary to explore the broad range of stress sources and its impact on eating disorders among larger population.
