Abstract

Indonesia is a country rich in tribes, nations, customs, culture, natural resources and also tourist villages. Tourism village in Indonesia spread in various regions from Sabang to Merauke, and this tourist village has each characteristic in accordance with the region, one example is one village in the village of batik gedhog that is in Ngluwuk hamlet, Kedungrejo village, Kerek District, Tuban Regency, East Java which has a distinctive cultural identity and building typology. The study of house typology in Ngluwuk gedhog batik village Tuban is using descriptive-qualitative method with typology approach. The criteria of samplings selection are based on authenticity of building shape aspect and recommendation from local society. Through this study the authors can identify the characteristics of the typology of village tourist architecture in Ngluwuk Hamlet. The shape and appearance of the house building in Ngluwuk Hamlet is a traditional tropical-style building with facade design using ornaments and the proportion of the facade and the inner room tend to be symmetrical, using the roof "tekuk lulang", Through this study it is expected the local government can educate people who have a house with the shape which is still unique would be able to maintain its authenticity. By maintaining and preserving a typical home typology, it will increasingly attract tourists to visit and enjoy the village atmosphere and buy gedhog batik from the villagers.

Abstract

City Kampung settlements usually unfavorable as a settlements, mostly by general perspective that kampung are “poor people” settlements, or not modern and not organized. In addition, it is not suitable to own a car and to be put in site (as would normally Indonesian people do), because of the really narrow streets in kampung. Thus, it should making them as settlements to be avoided. Especially by the so-called rich people. This Paper presents a result on preliminary research on those “rich” people about why one move or live in Kampung Settlements if they can afford to move away. The research conducted at all the expensive houses in Kampung Kauman, Kampung Gandekan, Kampung Tongan, kampung Sawahan and Kampung Arab in Malang City Indonesia. Samples are chosen by the researcher general assessments on its expensiveness and that the house is at the narrow streets of the Kampung. The Method used are in-depth interviews to know their considerations on each Samples. The Results that the basic factor for consideration on living in kampung settlements (even though they can afford to move away) is because of the atmosphere of Kampung neighborhood it self.

Abstract

Changes in residential units are common happen in a housing complex. Found many houses that are not in accordance with the original house form which planned by the developer in a new housing complex in the district of Malang. It shows that dissatisfaction of residents to the house's design makes them add some changes, especially in the space. This study aims to identify and analyze the attachment of places during childhood and local wisdom that affects the change of space in a housing complex by taking the case in the Chandra Kirana Regency Singosari, Malang. This study uses the qualitative method with phenomenology approach through in-depth interview and field survey on purposive samples, then the result is analyzed with two main elements of local wisdom, that is the man and its nature. From the results of the study found that there is an attachment between childhood memories with the present form of the houses seen from the composition of spatial arrangement in the house. In addition, local wisdom also influences the change.

Abstract

Housing development needs to be supported by particular guidelines issued by authorized institute for the achievement of development feasibility. Community participation as the main actors and users also took an important part for housing development to fit the target. Community disappointment is often caused by results that do not match the desires or not according to standards. The aim of this study was to find the preferences of the community related to the housing environment to be occupied, so it can open the new possibility in planning and designing the housing environment. This research uses exploratory qualitative and grounded theory method. Data collection is done through an open-ended online questionnaire and shared freely (non-random sampling). The collected data was analyzed qualitatively using the content analysis methods. The result showed that the five aspects that become the preference of residential environment (5 PRE) namely: environmental comfort, environmental facilities, environmental infrastructure, location and accessibility, building and residential environment design.

Abstract

Various influences toward West Sumba traditional house’s morphology are affecting the way its exterior appearance has formed. Despite their exterior uniformity, each of these houses is showing different spatial configuration. Spatial configuration is a product of certain social processes. In other words, different society will produce different spatial configuration. Meanwhile, it is believed that space syntax method could be employed to elaborate objectively particular social phenomenon by examining its spatial configuration. Based on that, this research attempted to identify the genotype in those houses to reveal the social phenomenon occurred. Core and territory are parts of several factors that potentially represent a cultural pattern in certain society. The result revealed that these houses are in fact sharing same spatial patterns. It is strongly indicated by core and territory pattern comparison. Four of the five samples are showing a strong genotype, while the left one is showing a genotype differences. In addition, there is a fact that this house with different genotype is located in a village that exposed to modernization.

Abstract

The architecture of traditional houses in Sumbawa Regency still has a correlation between the layout design, the purpose-use and the meanings with the society, environment, and its unique culture, both in the upper and lower social strata. Local identity in an architecture that grows in society has a hidden meaning both visually and non-visually. As artifacts that are quite complex in describing the culture of a community group, traditional architecture comes with explicit or implicit messages. Therefore, it needs a syntactic, pragmatic and semantic approach in reading the message. A qualitative approach is used to explore architectural objects in the study area based on the views of the local community and their meanings also follow the local understanding path that develops around the study area. The visual representation and visual representation of the built-up elements revealed the hidden meaning of the sign. The application of strata and codification of visual traits can reflect the growing cultural values in society about the harmony between man and nature through his built environment.

Abstract

The narrow land in big cities such as Jakarta, increases the amount of high rise building, especially multi-storey office building. Office building consumes much energy to provide air conditioning to meet the thermal comfort inside the building. On the other hand, the building shape, building envelope, and building orientation to the sun's position are the main factors in building design aspects that affect the amount of cooling load. This study aims to investigate the impact of the aspect ratio or the ratio of the longer dimension of an oblong plan to the shorter, on external heat gain of multi-storey office building. Variables examined include the transparent and solid area of building envelope, the total area of the surface of the building envelope in any orientation, and the volume of the building, as well as the influence of those proportion on the external heat gain. This study uses mathematical calculations to predict the cooling load of the building, particularly external heat gain through the walls, roof and glass, as well as comparative analysis of models studied. The study also aims to generate the design criteria of building form and proportion of multi-storey office buildings envelope with lower external heat gain. In Jakarta climatic conditions, the result on rectangular building plan with aspect ratio of 1 to 4 shows that the external heat gain did not differ significantly, and the smallest heat gain is found on the aspect ratio of 1.8. Results also showed that the greater aspect ratio, the greater reduction of external heat gain obtained by changing the orientation of the longest side facing east-west into the north-south, about 2.79% up to 42.14% on the aspect ratio of 1.1 to 4. In addition, it is known that in same building volume, changing the number of floors from 10 to 50 can improve the external heat gain almost twice.

Abstract

In the past, Alun-alun is united with the Keraton complex and present in an axis. The physical elements which forms an axis in Alun-alun are the two banyan trees that form the orientation towards the government complex (Keraton). As the development progresses, Alun-alun is revitalized to adjust current cultural conditions and to improve the quality of the Alun-alun's hall as the city's identity. This research aimed to determine the representation of physical elements which formed an axis in Alun-alun towards the government complex. Habraken's theory on the physical order was considered adequate to dissect the physical elements which formed Alun-alun and lead to the conclusion of this research. Matters that needs to be identified to reach the interpretation stage were identifying levels in nominal classes, namely major arteries, roads, building elements, partitioning, furniture, bodies and utensils. The results indicated that the axis of Alun-alun towards the current government complex was indicated by the physical form of locating the furniture in one axis, forming the pathways, the hardening of soil at the main entrance area and the addition of gates inside Alun-alun. The conclusion of this research was that in the past, the axis of Alun-alun towards the government complex was formed by the belief and symbolic meanings of its cultural life. Currently the axis was formed from the physical element of complementary facilities or infrastructure of economic and social activities as a representation of the axis in Alun-alun towards the government complex.
