Abstract

Abstract

Background: The influencing factor is stress, which has an impact on the low motivation of People Living With HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) to recover. By knowing these factors, interventions in controlling stress can be carried out well. A coping model is needed as a basis for developing stress control intervention plans for PLWHA using a family approach. As the closest environment to PLWHA, the family is very appropriate to control stress in PLWHA.Purpose:  This research aims to determine the factors that influence stress and models of coping strategies for stress in PLWHA.Methods: This is a mixed-method study with an exploratory sequential approach. This research was conducted in Padang City at the quantitative research stage. The sample in this study was 38 PLWHA and nine respondents in a quantitative study (psychologists, counselors, HIV counselors, companions of PLWHA (husband/wife/children/parents), and PLWHA). Data collection was carried out through observation and deep interviews with the respondents. Results: The statistical analyses revealed that factors influencing stress are self-control and discrimination. The results of the interviews obtained information that PLWHA needs to increase their faith in God, PLWHA does not want their status to be known by many people, and there is a lack of knowledge of PLWHA and the environment regarding HIV/AIDS transmission. The appropriate coping strategy model for PLHIV is to increase the PLWHA's faith, prevent the family from disclosing the PLWHA's disease status to the environment, and increase the knowledge of PLWHA and the social environment. Conclusion: Self-control and discrimination influence stress. The stress control coping strategy model for PLWHA is formed from three pillars: faith/belief, health status, and knowledge.

Abstract

Vaccination is carried out as an integrated effort to maximize the target of achieving vaccination to reduce mortality, break the chain and achieve herd immunity. Herd immunity can be achieved if the vaccination coverage is 60% -70%. However, until now, there have been many challenges in increasing the coverage of this vaccination. The Government has made various efforts to maximize the achievement of vaccination, but until now, the vaccination has yet to reach the target of 80%. Various factors and obstacles cause this, so a concrete strategy is needed to overcome them. In addition to regulations from the Government, a socio-cultural approach strategy is also needed considering that Indonesia is a country with various ethnicities and beliefs, so perceptions and acceptance of vaccination are also different for each region and society.

Abstract

Background: The aging process results in changes in the musculoskeletal system causing a decrease in function of joints, loss of elasticity and limited mobility. This condition also causes joint pain, especially in the joints supporting the body weight, namely the knee. The previous studies discussed the method of reducing pain using a contras bath which was implemented by soaking parts of the body that experience pain alternately with hot and cold water, this was difficult to apply if the pain occurs in the upper body. Modifications in contrast baths using compresses to the knee joint have never been implemented before. Objective: This study aimed to figure out the effect of the contras bath method using compresses to reduce knee joint pain in the elderly.Method: The design of this study was pre-experimental with one group of pretest-posttest. The sample used was 16 elderly who were selected by random sampling at Posyandu (a center for pre- and postnatal health care and information for elderly) in village of Sawit Gantiwarno, Klaten. Contrast bath is applied by giving compresses of warm and cold water alternately with a ratio of three minutes: one minute per-day during 20 minutes, for a week. Pain measurement is performed using the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) instrument.Result: The mean of knee pain before giving a contrast bath was 5.44, whereas after a contrast bath was 3.50. Bivariate analysis used Wilcoxon, it showed p value <0.05 which means there was a significant difference in knee joint pain before and after contrast baths were applied. Conclusion: Administration of contrast bath can reduce knee joint pain in the elderly.
