Abstract

Dalam lima belas tahun terakhir, penelitian tentang sampah telah berkembang sangat pesat. Isunya tidak hanya membicarakan entitas sampahnya secara fisik, tetapi juga dikaitkan dengan isu perilaku manusia. Dalam kaitan itu, teori perilaku perencana banyak digunakan untuk menjelaskan fenomena dan gejala perilakunya. Karena itulah riset kami menginvestigasi dan berupaya memahami bagaimana perilaku rumah tangga dalam menangani sampah dengan menggunakan perspektif teori perilaku terencana. Memahami bagaimana perilaku rumah tangga dalam menangani sampah merupakan tahap paling krusial untuk merancang kebijakan efektif yang diperlukan, dan upaya meningkatkan kualitas kebijakan yang telah dibuat sebelumnya. Lokasi riset di Kota Tangerang Selatan, daerah munisipal di Provinsi Banten yang secara spasial berada di pinggiran Kota Jakarta. Data primer kami kumpulkan dengan instrumen kuesioner terstruktur berskala likert. Sampel rumah tangga kami tentukan secara purposive dengan kriteria tertentu seperti usia dan domisili. Teknik analisis menggunakan model persamaan struktural berbasis Smart PLS. Hasil analisis kami berimplikasi pada rancangan kebijakan untuk mendorong masyarakat agar terlibat dalam pengelolaan sampah rumah tangga dengan menyediakan fasilitas pengelolaan sampah spesifik berbasis komunitas.

Abstract

Environmental damage from palm oil production remains a pressing and significant global issue, driving ecosystem disruption and social conflicts. Local communities, as the first to experience its impacts, are central actors in addressing deforestation, pollution, and biodiversity loss. This study examines the role of local communities in the Subah sub-district, Indonesia, in managing environmental degradation and mitigating social conflicts associated with palm oil plantations. A mixed-methods approach was employed, combining a Likert scale questionnaire with 101 respondents and field observations to capture both quantitative trends and community perspectives. The study underscores the importance of empowering local communities by integrating their traditional knowledge and practices into broader environmental governance frameworks. Over 60% of respondents agreed that active participation improves environmental quality and reduces conflict, with nearly 70% reporting direct involvement in conflict resolution. For instance, community-led reforestation in Sabung Village restored biodiversity and strengthened social cohesion, while waterway cleanups in Mukti Raharja Village reduced pollution and eased tensions with plantation companies. These examples highlight how grassroots initiatives can foster both ecological restoration and social harmony. This study’s novelty lies in its focus on community driven environmental practices as dual strategies for ecological management and peacebuilding in palm oil-producing regions. The results suggest the need for participatory approaches, where companies collaborate with communities to promote sustainable practices, prevent environmental degradation, and ensure long-term social stability.

Abstract

In Depok, Indonesia, rapid urbanization and economic growth have significantly increased waste production, exposing inefficiencies in existing management systems that contribute to environmental, health, and socio-economic problems, including pollution and rising greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. This study evaluates the investment and operational requirements for optimal waste management, estimates potential GHG reductions compared to a Business as Usual (BAU) baseline in 2030, and examines policy implications that support a circular economy and low-carbon development. A mixed-method approach was employed by integrating field surveys, stakeholder interviews, and secondary data from local government and environmental agencies. Emissions were calculated for 2025 to 2030 using Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 2006 Tier 1 methods, while descriptive analysis was applied to interpret institutional and policy readiness. The results demonstrate that an optimized scenario, which emphasizes decentralized composting, recycling infrastructure, and improved governance, could achieve a 65% reduction in GHG emissions by 2030 relative to the BAU baseline. Beyond quantifying emissions, the novelty of this study lies in integrating financial, environmental, and governance dimensions within a city-level framework, which remains underexplored in Indonesian and Southeast Asian waste management research. Strategic recommendations include upgrading community-based facilities, implementing fair waste tariffs consistent with the polluter pays principle, and fostering greater citizen participation. By linking emission mitigation with financial feasibility and institutional mechanisms, this study highlights how secondary cities such as Depok can serve as models for advancing circular economy and low-carbon urban transitions in Indonesia.

Abstract

This paper aims to map land use change, pattern, and direction of built-up land development, before, during, and after the development of Yogyakarta International Airport. The data source employed was Pleiades imagery with a spatial resolution of 0.5 m. The visual method was used for image interpretation and the accuracy test was conducted through the confusion matrix. Land use change data obtained by overlay. The distribution pattern is determined by the average nearest neighbour, while the direction of development of built-up land is determined by the standard deviational ellipse The results indicate that the land use map has a very high accuracy of 92.52%. Moreover, the results of the overlay showed that land use changes occurred very massively, in that within eight years there were decreases of mixed plantations decreased by 528.17 Ha and of agricultural land by 112.66 Ha. On the other hand, there was a significant increase in residential area of 29.42 Ha and a service and trade area of 11.2 Ha. The results show the ratio value of the built-up land pattern in 2014 of 0.63, in 2018 of 0.59 and in 2022 of 0.33, with this value the built-up land pattern is clustered. The results showed that there was a change in the direction of the built land pattern which was initially eastward changed to the northeast parallel to the arterial road. Monitoring the pattern of land use dynamics is an important part in planning and regulating spatial patterns and the direction of regional development.

Abstract

The Indonesian batik plays a crucial role in supporting the country's economy. However, its production often leads to environmental problems. As sustainable development implies the need for economic benefits equally accessible by all people without compromising the environment for the future of the next generation, the sustainability of batik means that batik, as a cultural product, should be preserved, and its production can bring economic benefits without harming the environment. Therefore, environmental issues related to batik should be overcome. Studies addressing the problem of batik wastewater have been conducted; however, adsorption technology is gaining popularity due to the benefits it offers. This review examines the characteristics of batik wastewater, identifies existing batik wastewater treatment technologies, and evaluates the potential of adsorption technology for batik wastewater treatment. This literature review was conducted using Science Direct and Directory of Open Access Journals (DOAJ) search engines, which initially collected 78 articles, and finally, 58 articles were found to be suitable for the review. An Excel-based matrix was then created to analyze the literature manually. It is found that batik wastewater is usually alkaline; the Biological Oxygen Demand (BOD), Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD), and Total Suspended Solids (TSS) usually exceed the quality standard regulated by the Indonesian government, and are usually non-biodegradable, as indicated by the low BOD/COD ratio. Adsorption is widely applied, economically feasible, and can be easily operated by batik entrepreneurs. The performance of this technology is best when combined with other processes.

Abstract

Sustainable development is development aimed at achieving a better quality of life. The sustainability of swiftlet bird nest (SBN) exports is influenced by the quality of swiftlet house production. Banten Province is a producer and supplier of high-quality SBN for export and local markets. Analysis of swiftlet house business sustainability encompasses three aspects: the ecological, economic, and social aspects. The sample consisted of thirty-eight (38) swiftlet houses in the coast, hills, and plains ecological areas located in the regencies of Banten Province. The analysis used was the RAPFISH (Rapid Appraisal for Fisheries) method which is an analysis tool or method based on Multidimensional-Scaling (MDS) through the R Software program. MDS is a statistical technique through multidimensional transformation into a lower dimension for measuring sustainability. The levels of sustainability on the coast, hills, and plains are 53.16%, 55.44%, and 56.94%, respectively. A value greater than or equal to 50% indicates a sustainable status; thus all these areas have a sustainable status. The determination of sensitive attributes was measured based on the priority order of the results of the MDS leverage analysis by observing the form of changes in the Root Mean Square (RMS). The greater the RMS value, the more significant the role of the attribute in influencing the sustainability of swiftlet house management. The highest RMS value impacting the success of swiftlet house management based on the ecological aspect is the threat of losses due to pests and disease outbreaks. This is also an economic factor with the highest value and is quite crucial. The existence of pests is closely related to the ecological aspect that leads to economic loss. The social aspects influencing sustainability are coordination between institutions and standardized public services. Coordination has the highest level of sensitivity which shows that synergy between institutions plays an important role in swiftlet house management. Good coordination can assist in the formulation of policies, implementation of effective regulations, and integrated supervision.

Abstract

The Oro-oro Ombo Pioneer Tourism Village in Batu City, East Java, has significant potential for development as a tourist destination. This study provides clear recommendations for prioritizing alternatives in developing the tourism Village. The Analytic Hierarchy Process (AHP) method is used to identify the factors influencing the development of the tourism village and determine the priority development strategies. This research involves ten respondents representing the Penta helix group: Academics, Business, Community, Government, and Media. Based on the highest and lowest AHP weight values, the research results indicate that local community participation and tourist satisfaction are the key factors. Simultaneously, the results show that the waterfall destination is the main priority alternative (29.9%), followed by the Apple Garden (25.5%), Camping Ground (23.3%), and Flower Garden (21.3%). The study concludes that local community participation is the highest criterion. At the same time, the waterfall destination is the preferred development choice for the Oro-oro Ombo Pioneer Tourism Village in Batu City, East Java. Sustainable development can be achieved by involving the community in decision-making, ensuring environmental conservation, and offering eco-friendly services. Therefore, the policy implication is that local governments should prioritize community engagement, allocate resources for sustainable infrastructure, and support responsible tourism practices.

Abstract

The rising dependence on imported wheat flour in Indonesia highlights the need for local alternatives such as Mocaf (modified cassava flour). This study explores the potential of Mocaf production in Sindangsuka Village, Garut, to strengthen food security, reduce childhood stunting, and promote the creative economy. A systems thinking approach was employed using a Causal LoopDiagram (CLD) to map and analyze the dynamic interconnections among these three domains. Data was gathered through literature review, focus group discussions (FGDs), and interviews with key local stakeholders. InsightMaker software was used to construct and simulate the CLD. The model identified reinforcing loops showing how increased Mocaf production improves local food access, supports child nutrition, and enhances household income through Mocaf-based enterprises. Triangulated validation confirmed key causal pathways linking innovation, nutrition programs, and creative economic activity. Policy leverage points include supporting agroecological practices, promoting maternal education, and expanding market access. Findings suggest that Mocafproduction can simultaneously address public health and economic development goals. By integrating Mocaf into school feeding and micro-enterprise programs, communities can reduce stunting and boost income. The updated CLD also highlights potential risks such as market saturation and environmental degradation, underscoring the need for adaptive policies. This study contributes a validated systems model for rural development, offering practical insights for policymakers. It underscores that food system resilience requires coordinated strategies that address interconnected challenges across nutrition, agriculture, and livelihoods.

Abstract

Urban forests are critical green infrastructures that provide multiple landscape services, including carbon sequestration, microclimate regulation, and biodiversity support, thereby contibuting to global climate adaption and urban sustainability. This study aimed to analyze the Patriot Bina Bangsa (PBB) Urban Forest’s role in providing comfort through carbon storage and sequestration using the i-Tree Eco model, microclimate monitoring, and evaluating its contribution to landscape services. Data were collected from 12 sample plots using a stand inventory that refers to the i-Tree Eco data collection protocol. An estimated 750 trees, dominated by Nauclea orientalis and Swietenia macrophylla, with a moderate species diversity index (H' = 1.7). The urban forest stored 241 tons of carbon and sequestered 17.85 tons annually, valued at approximately 151 million rupiah. Temperature Humidity Index (THI) values indicate moderate thermal comfort, especially during peak hours. A multifunctional landscape service assessment shows high for regulation functions and landscape disservices, and medium for habitat, information, and production. These findings highlight the importance of urban forests and tree diversity in maintaining landscape services. The indicators outlined in this study provide a basic method for assessing the services provided by urban forest landscapes. It can be used as a tool to improve the management of urban forest systems and monitor the impact of urban greening policies on human well-being in urban landscapes

Abstract

Rapid land cover changes, primarily driven by urbanization and deforestation, present critical sustainability challenges for rural landscapes, especially in developing regions such as Cianjur Regency, West Java. These transitions threaten ecological integrity, disrupt water resource systems, and compromise biodiversity, ultimately impacting land productivity and sustainable development goals. This research adopts an integrated spatial analysis framework to quantify land cover transitions and assess their impacts on local sustainability through a multi-dimensional Local Sustainability Index (LSI). The study evaluates economic, social, and environmental sustainability at the village level by utilizing overlay analysis, Local Indicators of Spatial Autocorrelation (LISA), and clustering techniques. Findings indicate a pronounced shift, with rice fields reduced by approximately 29,212.6 ha over a decade (2011-2021), while dry agricultural and residential lands expanded by 43,428.5 ha and 4,889.7 ha, respectively. LSI analysis reveals a decline in high-category environmental sustainability, contrasted by an increase in social and economic LSI scores. Southern development area (WP) exhibits high environmental sustainability, while northern development area (WP) has high social welfare and economic growth (Cianjur, Cipanas, dan Pacet Sub-District). Spatial clustering results highlight four distinct village typologies: urban village (Cluster One), developing village (Cluster Two), good environmental village (Cluster Three), and underdeveloped village (Cluster Four).
