Abstract

Stunting is a significant nutritional issue that hinders children's ability to reach their full growth potential. In Indonesia, it remains a national priority, with Muncar District in Banyuwangi Regency having the highest prevalence of stunting, a situation worsened by the COVID-19 pandemic. The primary contributing factors include a widespread lack of awareness of proper nutrition and a misalignment between community needs and the intervention strategies implemented by the Banyuwangi Regency government. Additionally, the Banyuwangi Regency is one of Indonesia's largest sources of migrant workers, exacerbating stunting vulnerabilities among left-behind children due to parental absence and limited knowledge of nutrition and parenting. To address this gap, the initiative aimed to enhance migrant parents' awareness and understanding of proper nutritional practices, thereby supporting their children's growth and development. This community service program was conducted in collaboration with the Banyuwangi Regency Manpower, Transmigration and Industry Service, Banyuwangi College of Health Sciences, and Muncar District Government. It comprised three core sessions: education on Clean and Healthy Lifestyle Behavior (CHLB); Nutritious, Diverse, Balanced, and Safe (B2SA) food; and a workshop on utilizing local ingredients to create stunting-preventive meals. The program yielded significant outcomes, with 20 parents participating and demonstrating an improved understanding of CHLB and B2SA foods, along with practical skills in preparing nutritious meals using local ingredients. This initiative serves as a foundational strategy for reducing stunting in the Muncar District and contributes to Indonesia’s broader efforts to mitigate this nutritional issue.

Abstract

The slopes of Mount Argopuro are naturally rich in inactive volcanoes in Indonesia. The surrounding community uses this area as a place for economic livelihoods. One of the dominant economic sectors in which the surrounding community chooses to meet its living needs is the agricultural sector, particularly the livestock sector. Community empowerment activities aim to 1) Increase understanding of business innovation to increase the added value of managing livestock waste; 2) Build pioneering business institutions through Community Business Groups; and 3) Initiate business marketing and sustainability. The method of implementing community empowerment includes socialization and training with four criteria: 1) Providing material on the importance of institutions; 2) Product diversity as a requirement for developing livestock waste processing businesses; 3) Business Development Practices; and 4) Strengthening business management. Community empowerment activities are equipped with activity evaluation methods through surveys that provide pre-test and post-test treatments to the unemployed community in Panti Village. The results of the Community Service show that the unemployed community in Panti Village can understand the benefits of strengthening institutions based on business legality and the creation of AD/ART as a basic requirement for the formation of institutions. The unemployed community can know, understand, and develop skills in the diversity of livestock waste processing that have not been utilized either economically or ecologically. An unemployed community can create packaging designs, promotions, networking, social media accounts, product trust concepts, and management to improve business performance. To improve the sustainability of the program and product absorption, the community empowerment team cooperates based on business transparency with the business incubator of the Faculty of Economics and Business Laboratory, University of Jember to improve networking and product expansion in the future.

Abstract

The quantity of plastic waste remains a crucial problem for the community in Cenrana Village. Because of the lack of public awareness of the dangers of plastic waste, handling is carried out only in the form of burning. However, its handling is still considered ineffective. Therefore, this PKM program was implemented to provide a solution for the reduction of plastic waste through the manufacture of press bricks, an environmentally friendly building construction material. The implementation method is carried out through three main stages, namely, counseling, training, assistance, through these three main stages, partners can innovate themselves and even improvise themselves regarding the use of plastic waste into press bricks as a form of handling the quantity problem that partners have been facing. Through the creative recycling of plastic waste, we can expand the scope of applicationstion and create new opportunities in the circular economy. The increase in partner knowledge through the Observational Sheet shows results of 90%, and production and supporting skills with an increase of 90% and 80%, respectively. The increase in skills obtained by partners through this PKM program provides a solution to the reduction of plastic waste that has been faced by the people of Cenrana Village and provides added value to plastic waste as economically valuable products, thus supporting the plastic-free movement in 2025.

Abstract

Muara Kembang is a sub-districts in Muara Jawa District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency, East Kalimantan Province, which borders the coast, so mangrove forests dominate its area. Deforestation of mangrove to be converted into ponds causes a decrease in the area of mangrove forests. Since 2001, the government has intensively rehabilitated mangroves and encouraged communities to plant mangroves independently. Planting mangroves in ponds differs from planting in coastal areas based on planting patterns and plant types. This field school aims to increase coastal communities' understanding of the importance of mangrove ecosystems and increase skills in planting mangroves, especially in active pond areas. The activities were carried out over two days at the Muara Kembang Village Hall. This activity was divided into two stages: lectures by resource people, discussions for the first stage and a mangrove planting simulation for the second stage. The data collection method was through a questionnaire, which was analyzed descriptively before and after training. Based on the results obtained, it can be concluded that the understanding of field school participants has increased regarding the importance of mangrove ecosystems for the aquatic environment, coastal areas, and aquatic animals. Apart from that, participants also know and practice directly how to plant propagules according to the conditions of the surrounding waters. After this training, the participants' knowledge and abilities of mangroves and their planting can be implemented to plant mangroves in ponds.

Abstract

Family is the smallest unit of society. Family resilience must be increased to realize family prosperity. Family resilience cannot be separated from the environment as it is a family friendly village. This family friendly village can be realized through a programme that includes family resilience education. One way to develop a family is through counseling about family resilience and the role of the family in creating a family friendly environment. This activity aims to increase the family’s understanding of the development and function of the family in realizing family resilience by developing a Family Friendly Village Model in Ciherang Village, Dramaga District, Bogor Regency, West Java Province. Productive-age mothers participated in this outreach activity. Counseling was performed thrice (March-May 2024). The first activity was offline counselling/education regarding the definition, components, and scope of family resilience. The second activity is counseling and education regarding the stages and tasks of family development. The third activity is counselling/education related to strengthening the understanding of family resilience. Based on the pre-test results, it was discovered that the participants did not know or understand the stages of family development, function, and resilience. However, after counseling and post-test, it was discovered that the participants could analyze each family's stages of family development and identify basic tasks, developmental tasks, and crisis tasks that needed to be carried out to increase family resilience. In conclusion, counseling is needed for families to increase their knowledge and understanding of family function and development and to create family resilience.

Abstract

Effective communication and collaboration are crucial for the successful implementation of the 10 Family Welfare Empowerment Programs (PKK). Among these, one key program focused on food. This community service program (PkM) aims to enhance PKK communication in collaboration with diverse, nutritious, balanced, healthy, and safe food consumption (B2SA). Unfortunately, the recommended standards for food consumption have not been adopted sufficiently. PkM employed action research approaches in Kampung Kajanan Village, Buleleng District, Bali. The project progresses through the Plan, Do, Study, and Action (PDSA) stages. These activities included training sessions, participatory observations, mentoring, and reflection. Data and information were collected from 30 PKK members, informants consisting of community leaders, and integrated service post (Posyandu) personnel. Pre- and post-test forms were employed to assess changes in knowledge, attitudes, and skills related to communication and collaboration. The data were analyzed through effective communication and collaboration analysis to facilitate behavioral transformation in the preparation of the B2SA menus. The findings from this community service reveal that PKK's internal and external communication is effective within routine activities, such as monthly meetings and informational exchanges about government programs; however, it is less effective in educating the community about B2SA food consumption. Internal collaboration was rated moderate. PKK engages in external communication with the local women’s group, focusing on processed foods. In conclusion, communication regarding B2SA foods is inadequate and requires enhancement through various channels and media. Support from the local government and the business sector is essential for improvement.

Abstract

Kote Village, located on Singkep Island in Riau Islands Province, has the potential to utilize coconut shell briquettes as a sustainable alternative energy source. Singkep Island is known for its extensive coconut trees and is a key component of the local economy. A considerable amount of coconut shell waste remains unutilized. Much of this waste is either discarded or burned without use. This underutilized potential offers an opportunity for briquette production, providing a sustainable energy solution for the village community. This community service initiative aims to reduce a region's dependence on conventional energy sources by converting coconut shell waste into briquettes. The implementation method included prototyping a pyrolysis device in Bandung, reconstructing the equipment in Kote Village, and conducting a workshop for the local community. The results show that the briquettes produced are of good quality and have a high calorific value, and the resulting liquid smoke can be used as a natural fish preservative. This initiative analyzes the environmental and economic benefits of coconut shell briquettes, demonstrating that they offer an efficient alternative energy source that can reduce environmental impact and enhance local energy resilience. Furthermore, it emphasizes the potential for local production, empowering villagers to achieve energy independence while supporting the regional economy. This method helps minimize waste while offering a replicable solution for other villages.

Abstract

Purwasari Village, Dramaga District, has great potential for sweet potato cultivation, which can open up significant economic opportunities for farmers, but challenges in sustainability and improving production quality are still obstacles. One of the efforts made to overcome this is through integrated agricultural training, which focuses on improving sweet potato cultivation techniques through the IPB Innovation KKN-T program. This activity aims to help farmers understand good crop cultivation practices, Good Agriculture Practice (GAP), and increase the productivity of sweet potato cultivation. The method of implementing the activity is carried out through several stages, namely land processing, planting sweet potato seeds, training, presentation of material, giving pre-tests and post-tests related to Good Agriculture Practice (GAP), and installing 60 × 40 cm land identity signs. The results of this training show an increase in the knowledge of sweet potato farmers by 7%, as measured by the results of the pre-test and post-test, as well as an increase in farmers' participation in cultivating sweet potatoes. The implementation of the training also increased sweet potato production by 30%. This activity also collaborates with IPB's Agribusiness and Technology Park (ATP) as a partner, so that harvested sweet potato products can be further processed, marketed, and sold through the ATP distribution network. This program is expected to contribute significantly to the development of sustainable integrated agriculture, as well as improve the welfare of farmers through wider market access and added value to sweet potato products.
