Abstract

Various efforts to increase rice production have been done in order to achieve rice self-sufficiency and food security, one of which is the creation of some New Superior Varieties (NSVs) of paddy. This study aimed to analyze the productivity, income, and efficiency of rice farming of New Superior Varieties, including Inpari 29, Inpari 31, and Inpari 32. This research was conducted on December 2014 until April 2015 in Subak Gubug I, Gubug village, as one of the centers of rice production in Tabanan Regency. The study involved 30 farmers who planted those three new superior varieties in 9.38 hectares of wet land area.  Each farmer used as replicates. Data were collected using interview and direct observation. Data was analyzed by Analysis of Variance (ANOVA). The results showed that Inpari 31 variety have the highest productivity, the highest revenue, the most efficient, and significantly different from the Inpari 29 and 32. Multiplication and dissemination of Inpari 31 variety to farmers can be done as soon as possible to increase rice production, achieve rice self-sufficiency and food security.

Abstract

This study aims to determine and analyse the level of technical efficiency and the factors influencing technical efficiency of a potato farming in North Dempo, sub-district Pagar Alam City, South Sumatera Province using 51 farmers who are censused. Frontier production function, estimated using the MLE method, is used to determine the level of technical efficiency. Meanwhile, multiple regression estimated using OLS approach is used to determine factors influencing technical efficiency level. The research showed that, land area, seed, organic fertilizer, ZA fertilizer, Ponska fertilizer, and fungiside were significantly affect potato production. The research finds that the level of technical efficiency of potato farming was, on the average, 81.336 percent. The research also shows that the intensity of extension and farmers’ experience affect significantly and negatively technical inefficiency while formal education, age, and land ownership status do not.

Abstract

This research aimed to analyze the power of dispersion and sensitivity of dispersion of the agricultural sector on the economic development of Central Java Province. This research used the data of Input and Output Table of Central Java in 2013. Data analysis method applied in this research is Input-Output analysis. The results showed that the agricultural sector represented by the livestock sector had ‘above average’ power of dispersion index of the overall index. Livestock sector was able to encourage the production growth in all sectors of the economy. On the other hand, the sensitivity of dispersion index of all agricultural sectors was lower than the average value of the overall index. This reflects the agricultural sector’s low sensitivity to the changes of the external aspects which results in the low forward linkage among the downstream sectors. In term of key sector identification, the agricultural sector as a whole was not classified in the priority sector I. However, the livestock subsector, representing the agricultural sector, was classified in the priority sector II on the economic development of Central Java Province.

Letter of credit (LC) is one of term of payments on export import transaction. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact ofmacroeconomic variables changes i.e exchange rate, inflation and the Bank Indonesia (BI) rateto value of LC, with study case in one of Bank in Indonesia. This study also analyze the differences in impact of the commodity on export import by using LC between agricultural and non-agricultural products. The data is analyzed by using Error Correction Model (ECM) to investigate the long run and short run relationship between macroeconomic variables and value of LC over the period of 2013–2016. The result show that the long run relationship between macroeconomic variables changes and value of LC is significant. Over all, the result show that allof the macroeconomic in this study was significantly influence the value of LC export, whereas the value of LC import was not influence by inflation variable. Differences of the commodity on export import by using LC also showing the different impact to the value of LC especially for inflation variable. The value of LC export and import of agricultural products was not influence by inflation variable. The recommendation for the bank to optimize the LC transaction is when domestic currency have depreciation, then the bank can increasethe LC transaction on export side either on agricultural or non-agricultural products. And then for BI rate factor, the bank should be wary of increase of the BI Rate because it can be impact to decrease the LC transaction.

Abstract

The main production areas of chilli in Yogyakarta Province are in the wetland onthe slopes of Mount Merapi and in the sandy coastal area. This research was intended to compare the use of production inputs, technical efficiency and performance of chilli farming in both areas. The research was conducted in Pakem sub-district and Panjatan sub-district. The number of respondents in this research were 30 farmers in every sub-district. Descriptive analysis, frontier analysis and revenue-cost ratio were used in this research. The results indicated that the use of production inputs, production, technical efficiency, and performance of chilli farming in the sandy coastal area was higher than that in the wetland. The technical efficiency in the wetland on the slopes of Mount Merapi was determined by the quantity of counselling while in the sandy coastal area was determined by the quantity of counselling and farmers’ experience. The auction market in both areas proved able to increase the price of chilli. It is highly recommended that the extension officers need to be active in assisting farmers in both areas, especially related with chilli cultivation and processing technology.

Abstract

Recently, there has been a growing controversy on strategic policy issues in coastal areas. Coastal regions have the most diverse, complex, and productive ecosystems due to demographic and economic pressure. This ecosystems are important for food security. On the other hand, coastal problems are national issues, not just state or local issues. This research aims to propose the priority dimension of a stakeholder role in a strategic policy to promote the coordination and sustainability of socioeconomic activities in coastal areas involving stakeholders as primary data, i.e. fishermen, merchants, private, and government using SUSTAIN indicators with AHP and Rap-Coastal methods. The result reveals that governance dimension was still the most priority and the most sustainable index to achieve policies; monitoring tools; human resources capacity building, implementation of good management practices; and public participation. Meanwhile, social well-being dimension was the most priority to achieve the economy through transportation; and attaining the goal of equity was the priority for government policy. There are three sensitive aspects of coastal sustainability management, including integrated program, identified parties actively informed and involved, and partnership between local governments and communities.

Abstract

The sale of fresh fruit bunches in Putri Hijau sub-district has variety of marketing channels from farmers to consumers. The diversity of marketing channels should result in differences in the price levels received by farmers and the costs incurred by each marketing agency, such as freight costs, transportation costs to factories, fruit shrinkage costs, and other costs. This study aims to identify marketing channels and compare the marketing channel efficiency of fresh fruit bunches (TBS) of palm oil formed in Kecamatan Putri Hijau, North Bengkulu. Determination of farmer respondents is done by purposive sampling counted 41 people, and marketing agency respondents use snowball sampling method. The results showed that there are three channels of marketing of oil palm FFS formed, namely Channel I (farmers - collector traders - factories), Channel II (farmers - farmer groups - factories), Channel III (farmers - factories). The most widely used channels by farmers are channel I (farmers - collectors – mills) that have the highest margin and low farmer’s share. The merchandise margin and the profit-to-cost ratio indicate that only marketing channel I in Bani Village is efficient. Marketing channel I in Desa Bani Village has a marketing margin value of Rp206/kg with the value of profit to marketing cost ratio of 1.17.
