Abstract

The impact of quality education on poverty reduction is a critical area of study, particularly when examined across different economic contexts. This research investigates how quality education influences poverty reduction in low-income and high-income countries, focusing on the moderating effect of financial context. A comparative cross-sectional research design was employed, utilizing secondary data from thirty countries—fifteen low-income and fifteen high-income—sourced from reputable databases such as the World Bank, United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), and Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Descriptive statistics, correlation analysis, and multiple regression were conducted to analyze the relationship between educational quality and poverty reduction. The findings reveal a significant positive correlation between literacy rates and poverty reduction, mainly in high-income countries (r = 0.76, p < 0.01). Regression analysis further supports that the impact of education on poverty is more substantial in high-income contexts, with a notable interaction effect between education and economic context (β = 0.36, p < 0.01). These results suggest that while education is vital for poverty alleviation, its effectiveness varies depending on the economic environment. The study concludes that tailored educational policies are necessary to enhance the poverty-reducing potential of education in low-income countries, highlighting the need for global educational reforms to address these disparities.

Abstract

This research aims to provide an understanding of community participation-based waste management in Gurabesi Village, Jayapura Utara District, Jayapura City. The main focus is to identify regulations related to waste management, community participation mechanisms, and factors that influence such participation. The type of research used is descriptive qualitative, which aims to describe the phenomena that occur at the research location using socio-juridical analysis. Data collection techniques include interviews, observation, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive qualitative techniques. The results showed that one form of community participation in environmental improvement efforts is by donating labor through direct participation. The community also holds meetings to participate directly in waste management. At the RT level, participation tends to be direct, while at the RW level it is more indirect. Based on Arnstein's categories, the level of community participation in Gurabesi Village can be classified at the Informing/Providing Information level. This level of participation is influenced by length of residence, where the longer residents live, the stronger their psychological ties to the environment. This research shows that community-based waste management in Gurabesi Village is not yet optimal, despite the participatory efforts of residents. Improved facilities and infrastructure as well as more intensive socialization on waste management are needed so that community participation can increase and waste management becomes more effective.

Abstract

The Peusijuek tradition in Aceh Selatan represents a cultural construction that integrates Islamic values with Hindu cultural heritage. The historical process of Peusijuek is rooted in the peaceful Islamization that occurred since the 7th century AD, allowing local practices to assimilate with Islamic teachings. This research is a field study aimed at examining how the construction of the Peusijuek tradition is manifested in Aceh Selatan society. The findings indicate that although Hindu elements initially influenced this tradition, Peusijuek has transformed into a ritual that emphasizes prayers for safety and Islamic teachings. The implementation of Peusijuek is led by community leaders or village imams, with each element, from materials to movements, possessing profound symbolism that embodies harmony and fertility. This construction of tradition reflects the adaptation and transformation of cultural heritage within a religious context, maintaining the relevance of Peusijuek in the modern era through integration into various events. As a medium for imparting noble values, Peusijuek plays a crucial role in strengthening the cultural identity of the Aceh Selatan community, creating a bridge between the current generation and the past.

Abstract

In the era of digital technology, inclusive communication is important so that the empowerment process can reach all levels of society, including marginalized groups that are often overlooked due to the digital divide. This research aims to analyze the implementation of digital applications in community empowerment in the villages of Ulubelu District, Tanggamus Regency, focusing on the challenges, opportunities, and obstacles faced. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study design and data obtained through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis. Data mining was conducted with community leaders, village government, and local people. The results showed that infrastructure barriers, such as inaccessible roads and lack of internet signal, are the main obstacles in optimizing the use of digital applications, such as the Village Information System (SID), SIKS-NG, and other development planning applications. Villages such as Sinar Banten, Rejosari, Ulu Semong, and Petay Kayu face issues related to the accessibility of digital technology and information. In addition, a lack of digital literacy among the community, especially the elderly, and limited training for village officials exacerbate the situation. However, digital applications also have the potential to support transparency, efficiency, and access to information in community empowerment programs with improved technology infrastructure and inclusive digital literacy training. This study reveals the importance of collaboration between the government, village apparatus, and communities in designing sustainable digitalization strategies. This research enriches the literature related to digitalization in rural areas and provides practical recommendations to overcome barriers to technology implementation. The results are expected to serve as a reference for policymakers and practitioners to develop a more inclusive approach in supporting digital-based community empowerment in remote areas.

Abstract

This study aims to map the capacity model of the gampong apparatus in realizing disability-inclusive gampong in Miruk Taman Village, Darussalam District, Aceh Besar Regency. This research was conducted using a qualitative method with an exploratory-participatory approach and referring to emancipatory principles. The results of the study found that two strengthening models for gampong apparatus in realizing inclusive gampong were carried out through 3 phases, namely: Awareness, Empowerment, and Mentoring. The Awareness stage was carried out through workshop activities related to the importance of qanun gampong as a legal basis for realizing inclusive gampongs. Furthermore, activities were also carried out to increase the knowledge of gampong apparatus and KSM on the rights of people with disabilities facilitated by the Social Service, the Aceh Building Forum, and academics. The empowerment was carried out through assistance in the formulation of the qanun gampong together with the Head of the Aceh Besar Legal Division, the Aceh Besar Social Service, DPMG, the Aceh Building Forum as a companion institution, and academics from the Islamic Community Development Study Program of UIN Ar-Raniry until the qanun was successfully ratified. Meanwhile, the implementation of qanun is carried out through training for gampong apparatus and KSM through mapping the needs of people with disabilities, providing access to services needed by people with disabilities, and through the declaration of disability-inclusive gampong, which involves the direct participation of people with disabilities as beneficiaries. This capacity model has provided improvements in the social conditions of people with disabilities, especially access to development in Gampong Miruk Taman, where they were previously marginalized.
