Abstract

Counting skills constitute an essential foundation in early childhood cognitive development and serve as an important indicator of school readiness. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of the Counting Ball Sorting educational game in improving counting skills among children aged 4–5 years (Kindergarten Group A) at TK Darul Ulum Sumur Dalam Tamberu Agung. The counting skills assessed include recognizing number symbols, counting objects, performing one-to-one correspondence, and matching numbers with quantities. This research employed a quantitative approach using a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest model. The participants consisted of 20 children selected through total sampling. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a paired sample t-test after meeting the normality assumption. The results revealed a statistically significant improvement in children’s counting skills (p < 0.05), with a very large effect size (Cohen’s d = 3.79). These findings indicate that hands-on sorting and matching activities based on quantity and color effectively stimulate children’s understanding of the relationship between number symbols and quantities. The novelty of this study lies in integrating sorting activities as a cognitive strategy that combines numeracy stimulation and fine motor coordination within a simple manipulative game design implemented in a rural early childhood education context. Practically, the results of this research imply that the use of educational games based on concrete activities can become an alternative strategy for numeracy learning that is more interactive, meaningful, and appropriate to the developmental characteristics of early childhood.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of a school-based parenting program and the development of independence in children aged 4 to 6 years at the Lebijaga One Roof Kindergarten. The background of this study is based on the finding that several children are still unable to perform daily activities independently, such as putting on shoes, eating without assistance, and tidying up learning equipment. This study uses a qualitative approach with descriptive methods. The research subjects included seven children aged 4 to 6 years, the class teacher, and parents who acted as supporting informants. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. The data analysis process refers to the Miles and Huberman model, which includes the stages of data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results show that parenting is implemented through habituation of daily activities at school, ongoing communication between teachers and parents, and holding parenting meetings. The research findings also indicate that parenting patterns that provide opportunities for children to try to do activities independently, such as eating alone, putting on shoes, tidying up toys, and preparing learning equipment, can support the development of children's independence. On the other hand, excessive assistance from parents and inconsistent implementation of rules at home can be factors that hinder the development of children's independence.

Abstract

Social-emotional development in children aged 4–6 years is a crucial aspect that plays a role in their ability to interact with others, manage their emotions, and adapt to their social environment. Based on initial observations at the One-Stop Kindergarten (TKK Satu Atap) in Lebijaga, it was found that some children still experience difficulties in controlling their emotions, cooperating with peers, and complying with classroom rules. This study aims to determine the relationship between parenting styles and the social-emotional development of children aged 4–6 years. This study used a quantitative approach with a correlational design. The sample consisted of 19 children and parents, selected using a total sampling technique. Parenting style variables included authoritarian, permissive, and democratic parenting styles, while children’s social-emotional development was measured using indicators of emotional regulation, empathy, cooperation, and independence. Data were collected using questionnaires and supported by observations. Data were analyzed using the Pearson Product-Moment correlation test using SPSS. The analysis showed that the relationship between parenting styles and children’s social-emotional development was very low and did not demonstrate statistical significance. The correlation values obtained were authoritarian parenting (r = 0.162; p = 0.508), permissive parenting (r = 0.100; p = 0.684), and democratic parenting (r = 0.086; p = 0.725), with a significance value greater than 0.05. These findings indicate that the social emotional development of children in this study may be influenced by other factors, such as the school environment, interactions with peers, and the role of teachers in the learning process.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze parents' perceptions of early childhood language development and the factors influencing these changes through the parenting program at Bogenga State Kindergarten (TKK Negeri Bogenga). The main focus of the study is on shifts in parents' subjective views regarding their role in language stimulation, rather than simply evaluating children's developmental outcomes. The research design used was descriptive qualitative, with three parents of students aged 5-6 years old as subjects. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, which were then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model of reduction, presentation, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through a source triangulation strategy to determine the consistency of information between informants. The research findings are summarized in two main themes: positive perceptions of psychological comfort and openness of discussion through home visits compared to formal meetings at school, and indications of increased parental understanding in the practice of stimulating receptive and expressive language through immediate responses and verbal reinforcement. Observations indicated challenges in the consistency of children's focus and clarity of sentence structure that require follow-up through more structured language modeling at home.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze mindful parenting practices in fostering independence among children aged 5–6 years in South Aceh and to identify factors that hinder the implementation of these practices. A qualitative approach with a case study design was employed. The participants consisted of four mothers and four early childhood children selected through purposive sampling. Data were collected using structured observations, open-ended interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted through triangulation to ensure the credibility of the findings. The results indicate that mindful parenting is practiced through attentive communication, parental emotional regulation, non-judgmental acceptance, and supportive involvement in children’s daily activities. These practices positively contribute to children’s independence, as reflected in their ability to perform self-care tasks, engage in social interactions, and demonstrate initiative in everyday activities. However, the implementation of mindful parenting is influenced by economic conditions, time constraints due to parental work demands, and the social environment. Despite these challenges, the findings highlight that the quality of parent–child interactions grounded in awareness and emotional presence remains a key factor in supporting children’s independence. This study provides valuable insights into the application of mindful parenting within a specific sociocultural context and contributes to the broader understanding of awareness-based parenting practices in early childhood education.

Abstract

This research is motivated by the suboptimal social development of children in the current technological era, where excessive device usage has hindered the growth of their cooperation, communication, and independent conflict-resolution skills. The primary objective of this study is to examine the effect of the collaborative game "Carrying Ball on Poles" on the social development of early childhood. The research employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design (Nonequivalent Control Group Design). The subjects consisted of a single group assigned to the experimental class. Data were collected through structured observations using a validated social development assessment instrument. The data analysis used an independent-samples t-test to compare pre-test and post-test results. The findings indicate a significant improvement in children's social skills through intensive interaction that requires physical synchronization and effective communication during the game. This study concludes that innovative group-play-based learning strategies are essential to optimizing children's social potential holistically.

Abstract

The implementation of HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skill) is the foundation for developing critical thinking skills in early childhood. This study aims to analyze the implementation of HOTS in the preparation of ECE learning plans. This study uses a quantitative descriptive method involving 31 ECE teacher respondents in West Java who were selected using a random sampling technique. The data collection technique used a questionnaire containing three indicators of the level of ECE teachers' understanding of HOTS implementation. The data analysis technique measures the centralization of data by measuring the mean. The results of the study indicate that most teachers have heard of HOTS but have not been able to fully explain the HOTS concept, teachers have not been able to differentiate precisely between the HOTS concept and cognitive development, awareness of HOTS implementation in ECE learning devices is already possessed by teachers and some have implemented it as seen from the OAVs (Operational Action Verbs) and the output of learning activities mentioned. ECE teachers' understanding of HOTS implementation must continue to be improved so that they can produce learning plans in accordance with the demands of 21st-century learning.

Abstract

The Hijaiyyah alphabet is an essential component in understanding the two primary guides in life: the Quran and the Hadith. Therefore, it is important to introduce it to children at an early age, through both formal and non-formal education. Teaching the Hijaiyyah alphabet to young children often presents challenges such as the lack of engaging methods, low student interest, and the inappropriate use of digital technology in learning. This study aims to introduce the Hijaiyyah alphabet from the very beginning as a foundation for learning to read the Qur’an, as well as to enhance the use of digital technology in children’s education by employing the Tartiluna Method and Smart TV. The method applied in this study is a qualitative descriptive approach, which collects data through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects included teachers and children at Nasima Kindergarten, Semarang. For data analysis, the data was collected, presented, and summarized. The results of the study indicate that the method of introducing the Hijaiyyah letters using Tartiluna and Smart TV can provide a learning experience that is engaging, effective, and appropriate for the needs of early childhood. The use of Smart TV makes it easier for children to recognize, remember, and pronounce the Hijaiyyah letters correctly. Additionally, the Tartiluna method, which emphasizes calmness and order, when combined with Smart TV technology, created an interactive, fun, and beneficial learning atmosphere for children at an early age.
