Abstract

Politeness is an important aspect of moral development in early childhood. Initial observations at RA Azrina showed that most children aged 5–6 years were not yet accustomed to using polite expressions such as “please,” “thank you,” “sorry,” and “excuse me,” and did not consistently demonstrate behavior in accordance with politeness norms in their daily interactions. This study aimed to improve children's politeness through storytelling. The study employed a Classroom Action Research (CAR) design based on the Kemmis and McTaggart model, conducted in two cycles with 20 Group B children at RA Azrina, Medan Marelan District. Data were collected using checklist observation sheets and documentation, and were analyzed descriptively using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The results showed that classical mastery increased from 0% in the pre-cycle stage to 25% in Cycle I and 90% in Cycle II. At the end of the study, 12 children (60%) achieved the Very Well Developed (VWD) category, 6 children (30%) reached the Developed as Expected (DE) category, and 2 children (10%) remained in the Beginning to Develop (BD) category. Thus, storytelling was effective in improving children's politeness through the delivery of moral messages in an engaging, contextual manner appropriate to the developmental characteristics of early childhood.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the importance of socio-emotional development in children aged 5–6 years, particularly regarding their ability to cooperate, empathize, communicate, and interact with peers. During the learning process, children require stimulation to ensure their socio-emotional skills develop optimally. Role-play center activities provide opportunities for children to interact, express their feelings, and learn through direct experience. This study aims to describe efforts to foster children's socio-emotional development through role-play center activities themed "The World of Aquatic Animals." The research was conducted at the Al-Muna Early Childhood Education (PAUD) center, specifically in Class B, which comprises the Asyakur and As-Syahid groups. A qualitative method was employed, utilizing a descriptive approach and field research design. Data were collected through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis followed the Miles and Huberman interactive model, involving data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through source and method triangulation. The results indicate that role-play center activities support children's socio-emotional development.

Abstract

Farmer parents in Ciracap Village face time constraints and work pressures that can potentially impact their support for early childhood. This study aims to describe the parenting styles of farmer parents in shaping the socially conscious character of early childhood children in Ciracap Village. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study involving five farmer parents, five children aged 5-6 years, and one teacher as informants. Data were collected through interviews, observation, and documentation, then analyzed using the Miles and Huberman interactive model. The results showed that farmer parents implement a democratic parenting style through role models, habituation, and communication. Children's socially conscious character develops in the aspects of empathy, sharing, helping, and cooperation, with three out of five children showing consistent development. Parental burnout conditions affect the quality of parental emotional interactions, but its impact is mitigated by family support and a culture of mutual cooperation, so that the development of children's socially conscious character continues to take place positively.
