Abstract

Local ducks in Indonesia such as alabio duck and cihateup duck have advantages as egg producer and meat producer. Efforts is needed to increase the population of ducks by doing hatching. This research is to learn the hatchability of alabio duck and cihateup duck and identify of the factors that can be affected hatching duck eggs. Eggs ducks used 200 grains eggs ducks cihateup and eggs ducks alabio 300 grains. The process of hatching the egg ducks held for 28 days. The percentage fertility and hatchability results duck eggs alabio higher than cihateup duck eggs. Death embryonic the biggest occurred on the day to 26-28 days. Greater egg weights produce larger DOD. Weight of eggs and duck eggs index has no effect on hatchability but which affect hatchability of duck eggs in this study is high temperature during incubation, lower humidity during the period hatcher and egg hygiene. Alabio duck egg weight is lighter than duck eggs cihateup and more oval shaped while cihateup duck eggs more rounded shape. Weight egg and index egg on two types of eggs uniforms.

Abstract

Duck eggs are more difficult to hatch than chicken eggs as the duck does not incubate their eggs and the duck eggs need more time to hatch (in 28 days). This study aimed to determine the sex ratio of DOD (Day Old Duck) from two different breeds, namely cihateup from Tasikmalaya West Java and alabio from South Kalimantan. This experiment was conducted from May 2012 to July 2012 at the Hatchery Laboratory of Animal Science Faculty of IPB. 500 eggs consist of 300 alabio eggs and 200 cihateup eggs were used in this experiment. Temperature, humidity, egg weight, egg shape index, hatching weight and mortality were measured. The data of egg weight, egg shape index, and hatching weight were analyzed using t-test, the data of sex ratio DOD were analyzed using chi-square test. The result showed that there were no significant difference between egg weight and egg shape index on sex ratio. Sex ratio of male and female cihateup ducks was equal  (50%:50%), however the sex ratio of alabio ducks was different (32%:68%). Mortality rate was affected by sex of duck (P<0.05). The Higher mortality was occured at early (day 0-7) and late (day>25) hatching period.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate physical, microbiological, and organoleptic quality of layer eggs marketed around IPB campus Darmaga, Bogor. Egg samples were obtained from three market groups (supermarket, retailer, and traditional market). Each group includes three markets determined purposively, namely SM-1, SM-2, and SM-3 for supermarkets; BR-1, BR-2, and BR-3 for retailers; and TM-1, TM-2, and TM-3 for traditional markets. Physical qualities measured were egg weight, yolk index, albumen index, air sac height, pH and Aw. Microbiological quality was expressed as colony forming unit with Total Plate Count (TPC) method and the number of Escherichia coli colony formed. Organoleptic properties evaluated were hedonic and hedonic ranking test. All physical and microbiological qualities of eggs showed no significant differences among markets origin. This study confirmed that eggs excluded from SNI 3926-2008 (Indonesia National Standard for consumption egg) and other scientific findings. However, the low physical and microbiological qualities did not cause any refusing on the acceptability of sensorial properties by panelists.

Abstract

The objective of this research was to study the effect of restricted feeding on muscovy duck performance’s in grower period, the development of reproduction organ, puberty characteristic, egg production, and blood lavel of cholesterol and trigliseride. Total 32 of female muscovy duck , 8-22 weeks age ware evaluated in this research. A completely randomized design with 3 level treatments were used to arrange the treatments. The treatments of restricted feeding were ad libitum consumption ( P1); 70% ad libitum (P2) and 40 % ad libitum (P3). The diet contain 22% crude protein (0-3 weeks age), 18% crude protein (4-7 weeks age), and 14% crude protein (8-22 weeks age). The parameters observed were: performance’s in grower period (feed consumption, body weight, total daily gain), puberty characteristic (puberty age, body weight on puberty, first egg weight), egg production on first cycle, the development of reproduction organ, and blood lavel of cholesterol and trigliseride. The results showed that body weight of muscovy duck P2 and P3 lower then P1. The restricted feeding could delayed development of folicle ovary and  age puberty. The blood level of cholesterol’s muscovy duck P2 and P3 lower then moscovy duck P1.

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the contamination of microorganisms, pH, water activity (aw), as well as sensory tests (color, aroma, flavor, and texture) with the presentation of different cheeses. This research was conducted in an Laboratorium Terpadu and Laboratorium Phatogen, Teknologi Hasil Ternak, Program Study Ilmu Produksi dan Teknologi Peternakan, Fakultas Peternakan, Bogor Agricultural University. Data from the observations in doing calculations using t-test mathematical model of this design is t =  with 2 times each replicate. The variables measured were the value of Total Plate Count (TPC), Potato Dextrote Agar (PDA), pH, aw, and a sensory test. Data were analyzed using t-test model. The results of the analysis of the t-test (α = 5%) of cheddar cheese block and cheddar cheese slice stem not give significant differences (P > 0,05) on the TPC and PDA yeasts or fungi. t-test (α = 5%) to pH and aw on each individual cheese does not give significant differences (P> 0,05). From the results of sensory analysis on the color of the cheese is seen that the panelists really liked the cheese sticks. Rate on cheese stem higher with the average value of which is 4 compared with cheddar cheese shaped slice which has an average value is 3,7. as well as on the assessment of texture and flavor, the rod-shaped cheddar cheese has a value - average higher than shaped slice of cheddar cheese. while the aroma cheddar cheese slice has a higher average value than the rod-shaped cheddar cheese. However this is seen not provide a significant difference due to differences in cheese and cheese slice stem relatively small. On the results of the analysis (t-test) showed that the difference in assessment of color, texture, aroma and taste of the cheese slice and cheese stems not significant or not significant. This is most likely because of the cheese slice and rods produced by the company that produced simultaneously.

Abstract

The aim of this study was to estimate genetic parameters on reproduction traits such as litter size, preweaning mortality and the number of piglet weaned. The data used were obtained from Artificial Insemination (AI) unit  Baturiti. Estimation of breeding values were calculated with heritability and differensial selection. Genetic and phenotypic trends analysis were performed with the regression mean breeding values on birth year and mean phenotypic on birth year. According to the breeding value estimated for all traits, the best was the sire no. 32, whose breeding value for litter size, mortality and number weaned were +0.27, +0.01, and +0.35.  The highest genetic and phenotypic  correlation were obtained between litter size and number of piglet weaned were 0.91 and 0.92 respectively. Genetic trends of litter size and number piglet weaned showed a similar pattern in 2010 to 2015 were fluctuative then declined in 2016, whereas the preweaning mortality tend to be stable. The phenotypic trends of litter size and the number of piglet weaned from 2010 through 2016 have the same pattern, which has a fluctuative pattern and lead to decrease in 2016. The phenotypic trend of pre-weaning mortality showed a stable pattern. The results of this research indicated that the reproduction traits of pig in Bali Province could be improve through selection programme.

Abstract

The objective of this study was to observe effect of first cavling Friesian Holstein age on milk yield performance at BBPTU-HPT Baturraden. This study was conducted using 150 sets of weekly recording of milk yield from 350 Friesian Holstein cows. Milk yield was calculated by using time interval method (TIM) which was equvalent to ME 305 days. The data were analysed using polynomial regression model. Result of the study indicated that BBPTU-HPT has made efforts to improve the age first calving, but has an impact on longer day open and shorter period of lactation with longer dry period so that calving interval has been longer than what’s been indicated not efficient and optimal. The age first calving significant through milk yield followed the pattern of linear regression
