Abstract

Increased hormones during pregnancy such as estrogen and progesterone during pregnancy can cause gingivitis. Pregnant women who experience gingivitis are at risk of giving birth to LBW babies and premature births. Factors that can affect gingivitis in pregnant women are the knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about gingivitis. This study aims to describe the level of knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about gingivitis at the Ngroto Health Center, Cepu District, Blora Regency. This type of research is descriptive observational using a cross sectional design. The research sample is pregnant women who carry out pregnancy checks at the Ngroto Health Center. The research sample was taken using total sampling and obtained 42 respondents. The level of knowledge and awareness of pregnant women about gingivitis was measured using a questionnaire. Using ordinal scale data. The descriptive analysis used is the frequency distribution. The results showed that 8 pregnant women (19.0%) had a good level of knowledge and 15 pregnant women (35.7%) had a good level of awareness. Most of the pregnant women in Ngroto Health Center have a low level of knowledge and awareness about gingivitis

Abstract

Background: The use of mouthwash has increased and become a habit since the Covid-19 pandemic. The use of mouthwash is recommended for prevention. The mouthwashes that American Dental Association (ADA) and Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended are chlorhexidine gluconate (CHX), hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), cetilpyridinium chloride (CPC), povidone iodine (PVP-I), dan chlorine dioxide (ClO₂). Universal composite resin is used for every tooth color requirement and has a chameleon effect that can disguise, eliminate, minimize, and neutralize mismatched colors. This study aims to determine various mouthwashes’ effects on the discoloration of universal composite resin. Method: This research is an experimental laboratory by comparing the color changes before and after treatment. Thirty samples of universal composite resin with a width of 10 mm and a height of 2 mm were divided into 5 mouthwash test groups and 1 control group. Color test using a Vita Easy Shade V spectrophotometer and the data were shown in DE assessment. Result: Data were analyzed with One Way ANOVA on DE assessment with the significance level p<0.05 on 5 test groups. Conclusion: The 5 groups of mouthwashes showed there was a color change in the DE assessment of universal composite resin

Abstract

Children with intellectual disabilities are children with below average intelligence who experience a decline in intellectual function, difficulty communicating and adaptive behavior, arising before the age of 18 years. This child has not been able to brush his teeth properly, for that audio-visual media is used as a tool that can be seen and heard in his delivery, one of which is the development of April's Mophie model to improve the toothbrushing skills of children with moderate intellectual disabilities. Produce April's Mophie model as a learning medium to improve toothbrushing skills in children with moderate intellectual impairment. Research using Research and Development (R&D) method. Quasi-experimental research design (pre-post with control group design). Purposive sampling technique with 11 children of the intervention group and 11 children of the control group, with a duration of treatment given 21 days. Data were tested using Interclass Correlation Coefficient, Paired T-Test, Wilcoxon Test, and Mann-Withney. April's Mophie model showed a p-value of 0.000 which means that this model is feasible as an effort to improve toothbrushing skills in children with moderate intellectual impairment. The implementation of this model effectively increased the action of brushing children's teeth (p = 0.041), as well as a decrease in children's debris index (p = 0.037) compared to the control group. April's Mophie model effectively improves toothbrushing skills in moderately impaired children.

Abstract

Physiological processes that occur during pregnancy can cause hormonal changes and affect the oral cavity. Oral problems during pregnancy, such as periodontal disease, gingivitis, tooth erosion, halitosis, and epulis of pregnancy not only impact the mother but can also cause adverse pregnancy outcomes such as premature birth, low birth weight, preeclampsia to premature rupture of membranes. Many pregnant women do not care about the possible adverse effects of dental and oral diseases on pregnancy. This shows that the majority of pregnant women only focus on pregnancy and do not reduce dental and oral health. The occurrence of dental and oral diseases during pregnancy is not only influenced by the pregnancy itself but also the lack of knowledge about maintaining oral health it affects poor behavior in maintaining dental and oral health. The aim of this study was to find out the description of knowledge about maintaining the oral and dental health of pregnant women in Baki District. This research is a type of observational research with a cross-sectional study approach, and quantitative data, and is presented descriptively. The number of respondents in this study was 55 pregnant women in Baki District. Data collection techniques in this study used a questionnaire that had been tested for validity and reliability tests. Abstract

The degree of acidity of saliva is influenced by the consumption of carbohydrate-containing foods. Daily food consumed by school children at home and outside the home is cariogenic food containing many carbohydrates. Children like sweet biscuit snacks. Sorghum-based biscuits are a healthy snack for school children. Sorghum biscuits contain xylitol compounds and are sugar-free. The purpose of this study was to determine changes in salivary pH after consuming non-karyogenic biscuits made from sorghum in elementary school children. This type of study was an experiment with 3 treatment groups and 1 control group. There are 4 groups: sorghum biscuits, 100% xylitol biscuits, 50% xylitol biscuits, and the control group. The design of this study is pre and post-test experiment design, namely the degree of acidity (pH) saliva pre-test is carried out before consuming biscuit snacks, while the post-test is carried out consuming biscuit snacks. Salivary pH measurement using a pH meter. Statistical test to determine the effect of consuming all 4 biscuits using the one-way ANOVA test. The result of glucose content in 50% xylitol biscuits is the lowest at 2.38%. Consuming biscuits with low glucose levels causes a slight decrease in salivary pH compared to consuming biscuits with high glucose levels. Sorghum-based biscuits are the best for dental health because they slightly lower the pH of saliva. But children dislike sorghum biscuits the most. This study concludes that 100% xylitol biscuits can lower salivary pH slightly low and are liked by elementary school children.
