Abstract

ABSTRACT Education is a learning process from not knowing to knowing. The provision of education is a very important need for human life so that the goals of the learning process or health education lead to the achievement of goals. Education, namely for behavior change, can be done by several methods, including lectures, discussions, demonstrations, simulations and others. There is also the provision of dental caries treatment with the Autraumatic Restorative Treatment technique as a form of early rescue effort that is carried out to prevent tooth decay from getting worse. This study aims to determine changes in knowledge and attitudes after being given education with demonstrations and actions for treating enamel caries with the Autraumatic Restorative Treatment technique. This research uses the type of research in the form of a cross sectional study. The population in this study consisted of grade 4.5 and 6 elementary school students. Sampling in this research using purposive sampling technique, namely sampling based on the researcher's assessment of who is eligible to meet the requirements as a sample. The results of this study indicate that there are changes in students' knowledge and attitudes after conducting education and before conducting education and there are differences in students' knowledge and attitudes before and after counseling. Abstract

Continuous use of dentures can hinder the cleaning process by the tongue and saliva, resulting in denture stomatitis. The main factor that causes denture stomatitis is the presence of Candida albicans. Green tea dregs and rosella tea dregs still contain compounds that have antifungal properties. Based on previous research, it was stated that green tea waste still contained polyphenols, flavonoids, gallic acid, catechins, EGCG, as well as rosella pulp also contained anthocyanins and phenolics. The presence of the following ingredients means that each infusion can reduce the amount of C. albicans growth. This research is a laboratory experimental study with 54 samples divided into 9 groups. The research group consisted of soaking samples of acrylic resin contaminated with C. albicans for 7 hours in the control group (sterile distilled water) and the treatment group, namely steeping green tea dregs with concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% and rosella tea dregs steeping 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% which were then tested by spectrophotometer to see the absorbance of C. albicans. The data obtained were analyzed by ANOVA showing p0.005 so that the LSD test continued, it could be seen that there were significant differences between each treatment group and the control group, which means that the steeping of green tea dregs and the steeping of rosella tea dregs at concentrations of 25%, 50%, 75%, 100% affected the growth of C. albicans on heat-cured acrylic resin, but between groups of various concentrations of steeping tea dregs did not show a significant effect.

Abstract

West Borneo has 1.73 million hectares of peatland areas. Therefore, people consume drinking water derived from rainwater or mountain water. In line with that, they also have a high caries rate. This water consumption might have a role in caries incidence. Besides, substrate, agent, host, and time could become other influence factors. This study aims to determine the factors that affect dental caries in West Borneo’s peat areas based on drinking water consumption. The research method was the facto exposé research. The population was children aged 12-14 years and taken by Cluster random sampling. The data were analyzed with correlation tests related to drinking water consumption which causing dental caries numbers. The study showed a significant difference in the Fluoride content of the four water types (p-value = 0.018).The influence of water consumption on caries was only 2%. However, the caries incidence among respondents who consumed mountain water was higher.Behavioral and tooth brushing activities significantly impacted respondents with different drinking water consumption.

Abstract

The results of Riskesdas 2018, showed 93% of children aged 5-6 years had dental caries with an average DMF-T of 8.3; as many as 57.6% experienced dental and oral health problems, and only 10.2% received services from medical personnel. The number of dental health problems in Central Java is below the national threshold of 57.6%. The proportion of dental health problems in Indonesia is still far from the expectation of achieving the long-term target of the Ministry of Health in 2030. Indonesia is caries-free. The aims of this study was to produce a "GERAHAM Model" to improve the behavior of mothers in brushing their teeth Research and Development (RD) methods, there are two stages of research, model development and testing the effect of the model using the quasi experiment method with one group pretest and posttest design. The GERAHAM model is a model that involves the mother's role in training children's habits to maintain oral hygiene, especially brushing teeth at home. The data were tested using the Wilcoxon test. The average results of knowledge before and after treatment were 10.20 and 12.70, while attitudes were 18.34 and 29.32, actions were 3.00 and 18.34. The Wilcoxon test showed that the molar model could increase the mother's knowledge, attitudes and actions (P=0.000). Conclusion: GERAHAM teeth model is relevant as a model of dental health education to shape maternal behavior in brushing teeth.

Abstract

ABSTRACTComposite is a tooth-colored filling material that can change color by extrinsic staining such as coffee, tea and cuko pempek. Abrasive toothpaste can reduce stains but increase surface roughness. This study aims to determine the effect of the type of toothpaste for brushing on the formation of stains caused by coffee, tea and cuko pempek. This research is a quasi-experimental with pre and post control group design. 39 composite discs with a diameter of 1 cm and a thickness of 5 mm were prepared and divided into several groups, 1 group of negative control without treatment, 3 groups of immersion. Each immersion group was divided into 4 brushing groups, namely without brushing, brushing without toothpaste, brushing with abrasive paste and brushing with non-abrasive paste. Pre and post treatment discs were photographed and color changes were assessed using the CIE L*a*b and E system. Friedman, Kruskall Wallis and Mann Whitney U non-parametric analysis test was used to compare color values and color differences within groups and between groups. Based on this study, it can be concluded that there were significant color changes before and after the soaking treatment with coffee, tea and cuko pempek. The color change in coffee was significantly greater than that of tea and cuko pempek. There was no significant difference in color change between tea and cuko pempek. Conclusion: Brushing with toothpaste Keywords: composite; coffee; tea; cuko pempek; CIE LAB

Abstract

Introduction:  The  addition  of  topical  CPP-ACPF  and  fTCP  on  tooth  enamel  can improve enamel hardness due to remineralization process. Demineralization can occur during  acid  environment  in  the oral  cavity  and  enamel  hardness  can  decrease. Objective:  To determine  the effect of isotonic solution immersion  and compare tooth enamel hardness after CPP-ACPF and fTCP application. Methods: Thirty six crowns of  maxillary first premolars were divided into three groups, each consisted of 12 tooth crowns.  The  baseline  hardness  of  each  sample  (pre-test)  was  tested  using  Vicker’s Hardness Tester Digital. Afterwards,  CPP-ACPF  was applied to group A, fTCP was applied to group B, and artificial saliva to group C (control) for 24 hours, then the hardness was re-assessed  (post-test 1). Immersion in isotonic solution was conducted for  24  hours  to  simulate  demineralization  process,  then  enamel hardness  was  re- assessed  (post-test  2). Results:  Paired  t-test  on post-test  1 revealed  that all groups showed  significant  increase  and  post-test  2  showed  significant  enamel   hardness decrease.  The results  of  one-way  ANOVA  on  pre-test  showed  that  there  was  no significant difference, while post test 1 and post-test 2 revealed significant difference. Post-Hoc Bonferroni test showed that there was no statistically significant difference of enamel hardness between groups. Conclusion: There was an effect of isotonic solution immersion on tooth enamel hardness that were given topical CPP-ACPF and fTCP.
