Abstract

Traditional Indonesian foods, including those found in West Java, are an important part of cultural identity and local heritage. However, traditional Indonesian cuisine is becoming endangered, according to Mei Batubara, Chair of the Pusaka Rasa Nusantara Team, due to a lack of regeneration in the ability to cook traditional foods. This study aims to highlight endangered traditional West Javanese foods in a different form in the field of Art Education. The application of this research in the world of education provides an opportunity to reintroduce cultural values through arts-based learning. The methods used are a qualitative descriptive approach and the results of a literature review analysis involving interviews with the younger generation and observations at major culinary destinations. Previous research in 2024 mentioned that many people, especially young people, prefer fast food because it is considered more practical and more contemporary than traditional Indonesian food. Additionally, according to the Head of the Pusaka Rasa Nusantara Team, Mei Batubara, the reason traditional Indonesian cuisine is disappearing is due to the lack of regeneration in those who can cook traditional food. The disappearing traditional foods of West Java became the inspiration for preservation efforts, transforming them into textile artworks using the punch needle technique. Through punch needle learning, art education becomes a space to introduce traditional culinary delights, so that the existence of typical West Javanese food is not only studied theoretically, but also experienced and preserved through artistic practices that are relevant to the younger generation, It can even be useful in developing models in the world of education

Abstract

In the world of Indonesian music, Sal Priadi is one of the Indonesian musicians who stands out for his unique ability to create song lyrics that not only serve as melodic accompaniment, but also as works of literary art rich in meaning and aesthetics. As a singer and songwriter, he is known for his ability to transform everyday language into poetic and profound expressions, creating a listening experience that not only touches the heart but also provokes thought. The lyrics in a song are crucial for literary aesthetics, not only regarding the depth of the lyrics, but also the connection of the meaning of the lyrics themselves to the audience, so that the meaning of a song reaches the audience. Of course, the task of songwriters is to understand the conditions of their society. Analyzing a work of art certainly requires a methodical approach to provide perspective on the work so as to be able to provide an objective explanation. In this methodological approach, the author uses the semiotic approach of Michael Rifatere using heuristic and hermeneutic studies.

Abstract

This study is motivated by the increasing digitalization of traditional music, which has not been specifically examined in the context of Angklung, particularly regarding shifts in form, practice, and cultural meaning. The study aims to analyze the transformation of Angklung in digital practices through audio, visual, and virtual instrument formats. A qualitative descriptive-analytical method was employed through literature review and non-participatory observation of Angklung-related content across digital platforms. The analysis is grounded in cultural transformation theory and an interpretive approach inspired by Clifford Geertz. The findings reveal three main forms of digitalization: audio-based practices that expand musical distribution and arrangement, visual-based practices that reshape performance and collaboration, and virtual instrument development that represents Angklung within digital music production systems. These transformations indicate a shift from collective, place-based practices toward more flexible and technology-driven forms. This study contributes to the development of arts scholarship by positioning digitalization as a process of cultural transformation and reinterpretation in traditional music.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role of Dayak motif body painting in contemporary performance art, focusing on how these motifs function as a system of signs that convey symbolic meaning to the audience. The approach used is qualitative with Peirce's semiotic analysis, which divides signs into icons, indices, and symbols. Data were obtained through observations of the Dayak Opera Nyai Nyalong Apoi 3 performance and interviews with Dayak artists and cultural experts. The results of the study show that Dayak motif body painting not only serves as a decorative element but also as a symbolic text that enriches the dramaturgy of the performance. Although there are aesthetic changes in body painting, such as changes in color and technique, the symbolic meaning contained in each motif remains preserved, reflecting spiritual strength, social status, and the relationship between humans and nature. Body painting functions as an icon representing nature and specific powers, an index linking the wearer to social or spiritual status, and a symbol understood based on cultural consensus. The study also shows that the symbolic transformation of body painting remains relevant in contemporary performance art, despite the influences of modern cultural development. A deep cultural awareness is crucial to ensure that body painting remains an effective symbolic communication tool and does not reduce to merely a visual ornament.
