Journal DaFIna : Journal Deutsch als Fremdsprache in Indonesien is an electronic journal managed by the Department of German Literature at the State University of Malang which contains articles in both Indonesian and foreign languages. Articles contained in the form of analysis, study, application of theory, results of research, and discussion of literature with the following scope: 1) DaF (Deutsch als Fremdsprache) / learning German as a foreign language, especially in Indonesia, but does not rule out the possibility of themes same from other countries; 2) Germanistic / Deutsche Linguistics / linguistics in German and its teaching; 3) Deutsche Literatur / German literature and its teaching; 4) Übersetzung / German translation and teaching; and 5) related themes, for example a) Tourism / tourism management for German-speaking foreign tourists and their teaching and b) Deutschkurs / management of German language courses and teaching.

Abstract

Seiring dengan upaya menciptakan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan, kebutuhan akan media pembelajaran yang inovatif selalu ada. Tidak hanya media konvensional, media digital dibutuhkan pula untuk menambah variasi media yang digunakan. Penggunaan media digital terutama berbasis android selaras dengan tingginya intensitas penggunaan smartphone oleh siswa. Oleh karena itu, penelitian ini bertujuan mengembangkan media ERMEINUNG, yakni media pembelajaran digital berbasis aplikasi android yang dilengkapi dengan video, audio, dan gambar untuk menunjang kemampuan siswa dalam belajar bahasa Jerman. Dalam mengembangkan ERMEINUNG, peneliti menggunakan software Lectora Inspire 17 untuk memadukan materi dan multimedia. Metode pengembangan yang dipilih adalah Research and Development (R&D) dengan model ADDIE. Uji coba dilakukan pada 35 orang siswa kelas XI IPS di SMA Negeri 2 Situbondo. Dari hasil penilaian para ahli, media ERMEINUNG dinyatakan sangat valid dan layak untuk digunakan dalam pembelajaran di kelas maupun secara mandiri dengan persentase 94,79% dari ahli media dan 92,5% dari ahli materi. Media tersebut juga mendapatkan penilaian yang positif dari siswa sebagai pengguna dengan persentase 86,45%.

Abstract

German language learning in high schools is increasingly vital in the era of globalization. Challenges like student disinterest and the need for self-access to materials persist, notably at UM Laboratory High School. Digital solutions such as the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 platform aim to increase student engagement because it can stimulate students in learning German independently. The formulation of the problem in this study is how the use of the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1platform in independent learning of German by UM Laboratory High School students and how students' opinions about the use of the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 platform for independent learning of German. The purpose of this study is to determine the potential use of the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 platform in independent learning of German by UM Laboratory High School students and to find out students' opinions about the use of the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 platform. This research focuses on twelfth grade IBB students, using observation for the process of using the Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 platform in class and interviews for student opinions regarding the platform as data collection. Qualitative analysis shows the positive impact of using Deutsch_Eins: easy access via social media, high enthusiasm, the content is quality, and the delivery is easy to understand. The result of this study shows that Deutsch_Eins/Deutsch1 can help students learn German easily and fun. In addition, it also increases students' interest and motivation in learning German independently.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to describe students' use of and reactions to the Falou application as a self-learning medium for speaking skills practice in German. The method used in this study is a descriptive qualitative research with students of class XI-7 SMAN 1 Wonoayu, a total of 31 students. The observation was conducted on March 25, 2024 for one session, the results of the observation of the use of the Falou application went smoothly and the students were very enthusiastic, although they were limited in using the application by the Internet network and a slight difference in appearance between Android and IOS. The results of the Falou application questionnaire are very suitable for beginners in learning German, especially for practicing pronunciation and helping students to learn and understand the material on their own and everyday expressions related to getting to know the subject matter.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the application of games based on the Blooket.com website as a medium for practicing mastery of German vocabulary and describe students’ responses in practicing mastery of German vocabulary after the games on the website are implemented. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative using observation sheets, questionnaires and tests. The results of this study indicate that Blooket.com can be used as an alternative media in learning German to train students' vocabulary mastery. Apart from that, website-based games can also provide an enthusiastic, enthusiastic effect, and can attract students. Therefore, this website can be used as an alternative game media that can be used to practice vocabulary mastery in further German language learning.

Abstract

Adaptation is one of the translation methods that emphasizes the culture of the TL (Targeted Language). The use of adaptation methods can overcome the problem of cultural differences between the text and the readers. This study describes the use of adaptation methods in translating cultural aspects in the German fairy tale Der Rattenfänger von Hameln by Bruder Grimm into Indonesian. In addition, this study describes the reader's response to the fairy tale. This research is descriptive qualitative research. The data sources in this research are the SL fairy tales and TL fairy tales, while the data are words, phrases, sentences that show cultural aspects in the SL and TL fairy tales. In addition, the data are also in the form of words, phrases, sentences that show the response of the TL fairy tale readers in the interview to the TL fairy tales, both to the intrinsic and emotional elements. Data analysis in this study used the four stages of the Miles Huberman (1988) analysis model, data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and verification or conclusion making. The results show that there are four out of five aspects of Newmark's cultural categories in SL fairy tales, namely aspects of ecological culture, material culture, social culture, and socio-political and administrative organizational culture. The reader's response to the TL fairy tales is generally good and shows the Bsa fairy tales can be understood and received well.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the preferences and motivations behind the selection of German as a foreign language cross-interest subject of 10th-grade students of Cross-Interest German Class in the academic year 2020. This study used a qualitative descriptive method. The data collection technique was a questionnaire given through Google Forms and filled out directly by students. The sheet questionnaire is used to collect the result of the preferences and motivations behind the selection of German as a foreign language cross-interest subject. The collected data is grouped, submitted to the triangulator for checking, and conclusions are drawn to answer the problem formulation. The results showed that there are 7 preferences: self-understanding, self-knowledge, confidence in decisions, supporting facilities, the role of a third person, and consistency and recommendation. The motivations for selecting German are divided into 6: the desire to succeed, encouragement and need to learn, reward by learning, learning process, environmental circumstance, and availability of facilities.

Abstract

This research explores the background and moral values of the Sanktmartinstag tradition in Germany and its connection to the story of St. Martin through the analysis of song lyrics and visual imagery in the video clip of the song “Ich geh' mit meiner Laterne,” published on the YouTube channel “Sing mit mir-Kinderlieder.” The research adopts a qualitative descriptive approach, utilizing the Semiotic Method, as outlined by Roland Barthes, and ethnolinguistic studies to analyze the semiotic elements present in both the song and the visual representation. The findings reveal that the character of St. Martin embodies significant moral values, such as kindness, generosity, and compassion. These values, as depicted in the song and video, offer a meaningful foundation for character education and can be effectively integrated into educational settings to foster moral development. Through this research, it is concluded that the Sankt Martin tradition serves as a valuable tool for promoting ethical values in children's education.

Abstract

This research aims to describe the activity of using the Mini Gespräch card game as an interactive learning medium to practice German speaking skills in class. The research method used by researchers is qualitative description. The data sources in this research were 21 high school students in class. The research results showed that German language learning activities using the interactive learning media Mini Gespräch game cards went well. The card game media can be used easily when learning takes place. Students can also continue to search for more new vocabulary on the internet and study Redemittel in the form of question sheets that have been provided flexibly. Apart from that, the Mini Gespräch card game media also makes them more enthusiastic about learning and not boring because of the attractive image display.

Abstract

This study is to describe the application of Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model with Picture and Picture (PnP) technique on creative writing skills of German Elfchen and Haikus Poetry in class XI 1 SMAN 7 Malang. This descriptive qualitative research involved 36 students of class XI 1 SMAN 7 Malang, using observation sheets and questionnaires as instruments. The observation results showed that students could follow the learning process according to the steps of the PjBL learning model with a combination of PnP techniques. Students gave positive responses to the PjBL learning model and PnP technique. The combination of PnP and PjBL techniques makes it easier for students to solve problems in developing creative ideas that are poured into the form of Elfchen & Haikus poetry writing. Overall, the application of the PjBL learning model combined with the PnP technique can develop students' creativity and train their skills in writing literary works in the form of Elfchen & Haikus poetry.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the application of Caillou Deutsch cartoon based on Paired Storytelling method in practicing speaking skills in Conversation II course. This study used descriptive qualitative approach with research instruments in the form of observation guidelines and tests. The results showed that students were active in the learning process and able to speak fluently. Students' response to the use of cartoons is very enthusiastic; they consider this learning media exciting and fun, and actively speak in front of the class. In addition, the application of Caillou Deutsch cartoons based on the Paired Storytelling method showed good learning outcomes, where the majority of students obtained good scores in three aspects of assessment. This study also helped students enrich their vocabulary and express themselves through paired communication with classmates. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that Caillou Deutsch cartoon based on Paired Storytelling method is an effective learning media in practicing German speaking skills.
