Abstract

This study explores the institutional culture and communicative practices of campus-based Islamic broadcasting units, focusing on how they can be revitalized through a synergistic approach to da’wah. Traditional preaching methods, while religiously grounded, often fail to engage contemporary Muslim youth who prefer participatory and dialogic communication. Therefore, this study argues for an institutional refresh that integrates media literacy, creative collaboration, and intergenerational dialogue. Using a qualitative multi-case study approach, data was gathered through in-depth interviews, focus group discussions, and participatory observation in three leading Islamic-based campuses across Indonesian universities. The analysis employed grounded theory techniques and was informed by dialogic communication models and participatory media frameworks. Findings indicate a strong disconnect between institutional norms and student communicators’ expectations. Units that permitted co-creation and interdisciplinary collaboration saw higher levels of engagement and relevance in their da’wah content. In contrast, rigid units experienced stagnation and disengagement. The research also reveals the importance of shifting from sermon-based approaches to conversational, issue-driven, and emotionally resonant storytelling. The study suggests a reframing of da’wah as a communicative practice rooted in mutual learning, cultural relevance, and organizational openness. By aligning Islamic values with adaptive media strategies, campus broadcasting units can become vibrant centers of youth-led spiritual discourse and ethical media production. Institutional change, however, requires both structural reform and a new mindset centered on trust, creativity, and pluralism.   Keywords: Campus Da’wah; Institutional Culture; Islamic Broadcasting; Participatory Communication; Youth Engagement

Abstract

This study explores the role of interpersonal communication in disseminating and introducing the Elektronik Siap Nikah dan Hamil (Elsimil) application to Family Assistance Teams (TPK). This study, a novel piece of research, comprehensively analyzes interpersonal communication in the diffusion of Elsimil, a digital innovation in public health for accelerating stunting reduction, initiated by BKKBN. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and document analysis involving 10 informants over three months. The findings indicate that interpersonal communication plays a crucial role throughout all stages of innovation diffusion: knowledge (introducing and providing initial information), persuasion (building interest and positive attitudes), decision (encouraging adoption), implementation (guiding practical use and addressing challenges), and confirmation (ensuring sustainability). Family planning counselors serve as early adopters and opinion leaders, facilitating application adoption and bridging technical and psychological barriers faced by TPK cadres. As the first group trained on Elsimil, counselors become the primary point of reference for hesitant cadres who lack sufficient understanding. Theoretically, this study enriches Rogers' Diffusion of Innovations Theory for the implementation of digital technology in public health services, specifically in stunting prevention programs. It demonstrates how interpersonal communication and opinion leadership accelerate the adoption of innovation in community-based health interventions. Practically, the findings provide valuable insights for BKKBN and program implementers to enhance family planning counselors' digital literacy and interpersonal communication competencies, ultimately strengthening the effectiveness of stunting prevention initiatives through improved cadre support systems.   Keywords: Elsimil Application; Family Planning Counselors; Innovation Diffusion; Interpersonal Communication; Stunting Prevention

Abstract

This qualitative study explores the link between revenge porn incidents in Indonesia and users’ digital privacy management, integrating Communication Privacy Management (CPM) and intersectionality theories. Through semi-structured interviews with six Acehnese university students who had witnessed such cases (through first-hand observation of distributed content, and close relationships with victims), the research finds that participants had limited understanding of revenge porn and were unaware that insufficient personal data management—exacerbated by intersecting structural disadvantages—often underlies victimisation. Thematic analysis revealed failures in all five CPM principles: private information ownership, control, rules, co-ownership and guardianship, and boundary turbulence. When combined with intersecting factors such as gender, religion, technological access, and cultural conservatism, these failures increase vulnerability to online gender-based violence. Participants mainly attributed incidents to external causes (religious violations, poor parental control, inadequate sexuality education). However, they had challenges to recognize how these structural factors constrain personal agency rather than simply representing external influences. The study advances CPM theory by demonstrating that privacy management principles operate within matrices of intersecting power systems and extends intersectionality applications by specifying concrete mechanisms through which multiple oppressions shape digital privacy vulnerability. The study concludes that prevention requires comprehensive interventions: digital ownership education, culturally responsive privacy control training, explicit privacy rule negotiation in intimate relationships, responsible co-ownership management, and early boundary turbulence mitigation. The findings advance theoretical understanding of digital privacy violations as intersectional phenomena and offer practical frameworks for targeted prevention programmes that empower users while acknowledging structural constraints.    Keywords: communication privacy management; data privacy; digital literacy; intersectionality; revenge porn

Abstract

Indonesia is a pluralistic nation composed of diverse ethnicities, religions, and cultures. This diversity makes religious tolerance a vital pillar in maintaining national unity. Amid the challenges of pluralism, media plays a strategic role in shaping public discourse on national and religious values. This study aims to analyze the representation of religious tolerance in the news narratives of NU Online using a corpus linguistic approach. Referring to Stig Hjarvard’s theory of mediatization, this study views digital media as an institution with its own internal logic while simultaneously functioning as part of other social institutions, such as religion. A total of 50 articles related to the theme of tolerance, published on NU Online between June 2023 and June 2025, were analyzed using Voyant Tools to examine word frequency, collocation, and concordance patterns. The findings reveal that the words “tolerance,” “religion,” “Indonesia,” “Islam,” and “NU” were the most dominant. Collocations such as “religious tolerance” and “interfaith tolerance” highlight discursive patterns that reinforce the image of moderate Islam promoted by NU Online. This study affirms that NU Online not only communicates religious messages but also actively constructs social realities related to tolerance through the digital media logic. These findings contribute to understanding how moderate Islamic media constructs tolerance discourse in the digital age and can inform media literacy initiatives.   Keywords: Corpus Linguistics; Moderate Islam;  NU Online; Religious Mediatization; Religious Tolerance

Abstract

The viral phenomenon of poverty content on social media indicates a commodification practice that exploits vulnerability narratives as a new economic resource. This study aims to analyze how poverty is framed in the viral content of Mr. Sunhaji's iced tea vendors circulating on TikTok and YouTube, and how the process of commodification is interpreted in the production and circulation of this content. The research uses a qualitative approach with Robert Entman's framing analysis and Vincent Mosco's political economy of media perspective. Data was collected through content observation, documentation, and tracking online interactions from December 2024 to March 2025. The research findings indicate that poverty is constructed through the frames of empathy, injustice, and inspiration, which simultaneously strengthen the emotional appeal to drive engagement. This narrative was then commodified through content monetization by creators, increased visibility by the media, and expanded public participation in the form of donations and content reuse. The findings indicate that digital platforms transform representations of poverty into commodities that generate symbolic and material economic benefits and the need for critical media literacy regarding the practice of commodifying vulnerability in the digital ecosystem. Abstract

This study aims to analyze the role and revitalization strategies of the Majelis Tabligh of Muhammadiyah’s Regional Leadership (PWM) in West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) in strengthening the Islamic identity of urban communities amid the challenges of secularization. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and document analysis, and analyzed using Miles and Huberman’s interactive model. The findings reveal that the Majelis Tabligh fulfills its role through the distribution of preachers, the establishment of the Muhammadiyah Preachers Corps, preacher training programs, and collaboration with correctional institutions. Its urban da’wah strategies include community-based da’wah, the use of digital media, and cultural approaches that respect local traditions. The revitalization has proven effective in enhancing Islamic literacy, strengthening collective awareness, and promoting inclusive da’wah that reaches marginalized groups. The study concludes that a comprehensive, adaptive, and transformative da’wah strategy is essential to preserve the Islamic identity of NTB’s urban communities while positioning it as social capital for community development. Abstract

The increase in cases of sexual violence, including in digital spaces, underscores the urgency of comprehensive and value-based sexual education. This study aims to analyze the role of the Taulebih.id platform in building Islamic-based sexual knowledge. The research uses a qualitative approach through netnography methods, platform observation, and in-depth interviews with four informants consisting of active followers and the platform's public relations staff. Data collection was conducted from August to November 2024. The results of the study indicate that Taulebih.id contributes to building users' sexual knowledge through processes of externalization, objectification, and internalization. Programs such as Taulebih Goes To You, Period at Peace, and Knowlunteers provide collaborative spaces, safe spaces for women, and active user participation that strengthen collective awareness and critical understanding of sexuality issues. This process encourages the formation of a new reality of sexuality in digital spaces. Islamic values serve as a framework that allows taboo issues to be discussed more openly and socially accepted. These findings indicate that value-based digital platforms are effective as public education media in addressing sexual violence issues.
