Abstract

Local wisdom is an important asset in developing creative economy-based tourism villages. This research examines the communication strategy for developing local wisdom towards the creative economy in Kampung Kopi, Rigis Jaya Village, West Lampung, which combines the potential of coffee and local culture into a tourist destination. Qualitative research methods with a case study approach were used through interviews, observations, and document analysis. The results show that the communication strategy includes marketing, stakeholder communication, community participation, and education. The participatory approach is the key to success, as it involves the community in managing the tourism village. The communication strategy implementation has significantly enhanced tourist appeal, strengthened local cultural identity, and supported creative economy development through coffee-based products. This approach has transformed Rigis Jaya Village into a recognized destination while creating economic opportunities for residents. The conclusion states that local wisdom-based communication strategies can increase tourist attractiveness, strengthen cultural identity, and support the creative economy. This research serves as a reference for the development of other tourist villages in Indonesia.

Abstract

This research aims to analyze the implementation of contemporary dawah communication through a problem-solving approach to address modern adolescent lifestyles in Parerejo Village, Pringsewu Regency. The study employs a qualitative approach with purposive sampling of religious teachers (ustadz) and adolescents aged 15-17. Data collection was conducted through interviews, observation, and documentation, with data analysis involving reduction, presentation, verification, and triangulation. Results show that adolescent lifestyle is influenced by environmental, economic, educational, and technological factors, with the primary issues relating to self-identity and relationships with the opposite sex. Practical problem-solving approaches include (1) enhancing adolescents' cognitive abilities and (2) providing interpersonal communication spaces. Appropriate contemporary dawah communication methods encompass lectures, discussions, exemplary role modeling (uswatun hasanah), and utilization of digital media tailored to adolescents' biological, psychological, and social needs. This research contributes as a reference for adolescents facing modern lifestyles and as a guide for parents in mentoring adolescent children using problem-solving approaches.

Abstract

South Korea’s product, K-pop music, is highly popular in Indonesia, making it a part of popular culture. NCT is one of the well-known K-pop boy groups. As a form of loyalty, NCTzens engage in various ways to support NCT, including purchasing merchandise related to their idols. This phenomenon of merchandise consumption has led to the emergence of virtual communities in the form of K-pop Group Orders. This study aims to provide an overview of the cultural consumption of NCT fans through Group Order NCT by Withaechanie on the LINE platform. A qualitative descriptive method with a virtual ethnographic approach is employed, utilizing data collection techniques such as interviews, participant observation, and documentation. The collected data is analyzed based on the four levels of cyber media analysis (AMS). The findings of this study indicate that K-pop Group Orders are not merely economic activities but also serve as spaces for fans to build a collective identity, share information, strengthen their loyalty to idols, and create shared values and norms. Furthermore, this study also discovers the presence of cultural artifacts and an online fan reality interconnected with their real-life (offline) experiences.

Abstract

Interpersonal communication between students and lecturers plays an important role in increasing learning motivation both on and off campus. Effective communication is essential to support smooth academic interaction. Meanwhile, religious tolerance encourages individuals to socialize not only with those of the same faith but also with those of different beliefs, thereby creating a harmonious environment. This study aims to explore the dynamics of interpersonal communication and religious tolerance between students and lecturers in an academic setting. This study employed a qualitative method with a phenomenological approach, involving 99 respondents. Data were collected through questionnaires and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The results showed several indicators of interpersonal communication, including openness (25%), empathy (31%), support (33%), a positive attitude (32%), and equality (34%). Indicators of religious tolerance included care (38%), compassion (38%), mutual respect (40%), openness (44%), and comfort (36%). The average scores for interpersonal communication and religious tolerance were 31% and 39%, respectively. These findings indicate a positive pattern of communication in the academic environment and a fairly good level of tolerance among students and lecturers. The results provide a foundation for designing training programs that strengthen interpersonal communication skills and promote religious tolerance in higher education institutions.

Abstract

Human-elephant conflict in Tesso Nilo National Park (TNTN) seriously challenged wildlife conservation and ecosystem management. The Reduced habitat through deforestation and the expansion of oil palm plantations has increased negative interactions between communities and Sumatran elephants (Elephas maximus sumatranus), causing economic losses and threatening the sustainability of the species. Using a qualitative case study approach, this study analyzed communication strategies to mitigate human-elephant conflict. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, field observations, and document analysis from various stakeholders, including buffer village communities and governmental organizations. Research findings indicate that communication barriers, such as low policy transparency, a lack of socialization, and inadequate community involvement in the formulation of conservation policies, exacerbate the conflict. Using participatory communication theory, this study recommends strategies that incorporate multi-party dialogues, community-based education, and communication technology for conflict mitigation. The results of this study contribute to the development of more inclusive and sustainable conservation policies and can be adapted to manage human-wildlife conflicts in other protected areas.

Abstract

This study examines the influence of Islamic values on the adoption of digital health communication technology among Muslim patients in Indonesian private hospitals using the Theory of Reasoned Action framework. Through a quantitative approach, 200 Muslim patients who had used digital health communication platforms in Jakarta's private hospitals were surveyed. Employing Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM), the research found that Islamic values—particularly siddiq (honesty), tabligh (clear communication), amanah (trust), and fathanah (intelligence)—significantly influence patients' attitudes (β = 0.676, p < 0.001) and subjective norms (β = 0.762, p < 0.001) regarding digital health communication technology. These factors subsequently affect behavioral intentions and actual adoption behaviors. The study reveals that subjective norms exert a stronger influence on behavioral intention (β = 0.462) than attitudes (β = 0.396), highlighting the collectivist nature of Indonesian society. The model demonstrates robust explanatory power for behavioral intention (R² = 0.592) and actual behavior (R² = 0.557), indicating that successful digital transformation in healthcare requires alignment with cultural and religious values. These findings provide crucial insights for healthcare providers to enhance patient engagement through culturally sensitive digital communication strategies in predominantly Muslim contexts.

Abstract

The rapid digitalization of higher education has fundamentally transformed lecturer-student interactions, particularly accelerated by the COVID-19 pandemic. This research explores students' perspectives on the lecturer’s professional image within digital academic communication contexts. Employing a qualitative case study approach, this study involved 15 purposively selected students from the Government Science department at Universitas Muhammadiyah Lampung. Data were collected through semi-structured interviews, non-participant observations of digital interactions, and document analysis of digital communications. The study identified five primary dimensions shaping students' perceptions: (1) digital technology mastery in learning delivery, (2) communication responsiveness and timeliness, (3) ethical standards maintenance in digital interactions, (4) consistency and discipline in online instruction delivery, and (5) adaptability and innovation in digital pedagogical approaches. Findings reveal that lecturer professionalism in digital contexts extends beyond traditional academic competencies to encompass digital literacy, interpersonal communication skills, and technological adaptability. These insights underscore the necessity for comprehensive professional development programs to enhance lecturers' digital competencies aligned with evolving student expectations in the digital learning environment.

Abstract

This study explores the intercultural communication dynamics and social resilience among Javanese transmigrant descendants in Lampung experiencing return migration patterns. Drawing on qualitative interviews with 16 informants (2nd–4th generation) conducted in 2024, the study examines how intergenerational communication patterns, cultural transmission processes, and community communication networks shape their migration decisions and social resilience. The research employs the Communication Theory of Identity, Intercultural Communication Theory, and Community Communication frameworks to analyze the complex interplay between symbolic communication, place attachment, and social resilience. Findings reveal that intergenerational transmission of Javanese values such as gotong royong and unggah-ungguh occurs through multiple communication channels, including oral traditions, ritual practices, and digital media, strengthening symbolic identity while creating hybrid cultural expressions. Communication barriers emerge from language differences and generational gaps, yet informal community interactions and shared symbolic practices are pivotal in maintaining social resilience. The study highlights how transmigrant communities negotiate hybrid identities through strategic communication practices and a balance between staying rooted and moving away. These insights contribute to developing communication strategies to reinforce regional resilience and prevent involuntary outmigration.

Abstract

This study aims to investigate Ghofar Zaen's da'wah messages on YouTube through the delivery of material on tutorials on the adhan, bilal, and shalawat. This study was conducted from January to June 2023. This research used a qualitative study with a descriptive approach. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation. Data analysis was conducted using the interactive analysis model by Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that the tutorial content on adhan, bilal, and shalawat is presented to provide understanding to the public, particularly in the field of worship. The increasing interest of the public in online religious education has made Ghofar Zaen's worship channel videos popular among the audience. It is able to accommodate the community's need for information about worship, which is then produced into content. Abstract

The advancement of digital technology has significantly transformed the music industry, changing the way musicians and fans interact. This study argues that Stationhead, an audio streaming application that enables users to host live digital radio broadcasts, serves as a vital new space for fan communication and engagement. Focusing on how Salma Salsabil(Salmine)'s fanbase uses Stationhead, the research employs a virtual ethnography method with a descriptive approach, collecting data through open-ended questionnaires from 236 active fanbase members and interviews with three administrators and seven members. The findings demonstrate that Stationhead not only enables more direct, intimate interactions between fans and musicians through live broadcast sessions, storytelling, and promotional activities, but also empowers fans as active cultural producers, strengthening emotional bonds with the artist. The application further enhances solidarity within the fanbase and facilitates collective activities, such as streaming parties, fostering a dynamic digital community.
