Abstract

Hyperuricemia is caused by excessive production and/or poor elimination of uric acid. Kencur (Kaempferia galanga L.) and black ginger (Kaemperia parviflora) can be utilised as antihyperurisemic alternatives because their flavonoids block xanthin oxidase (XO). The study determine the efficacy of black ginger ethanol extract (EEJH) as an in vivo antihyperuricemic agent. This research was conducted to determine the effectiveness of kencur ethanol extract (EK) dan black ginger ethanol extract (EEJH) as an antihyperuricemia in vivo. A complete random design used involving 32 mice in 8 groups. Negative control (CMC Na 0.5%); positive control (Allopurinol 10 mg/kgBW); EK and EEJH respectively 12.5; 25; and 50 mg/kgBW. Hyperurisemia was induced by chicken liver juice 4 mL/200 gBB p.o. and potassium oxonate 250 mg/kgBB i.p. UA monitoring was carried out before induction, 0, 7, and 14 days after treatment. Tukey post hoc tests and ANOVA were used to evaluate the data. The results indicate that both of EK and EEJH can reduced UA (p<0.05) however the reduction is significant with Allopurinol (P<0.05). Thus, it can be inferred that the EK and EEJH have potential for enhanced antihyperurysemic in decreasing the UA.

Abstract

Rambutan fruit peel extracts had been reported to have quite high antioxidant activity. There are several compounds classes of phenolic and flavonoid contained in Rambutan fruit peel extracts such as ellagic acid, corillagine and geraniine that are responsible for its antioxidant activity. Antioxidant compounds are commonly used in cosmetic preparations. This study was conducted to explain the antioxidant activity of rambutan fruit peel extracts in nanoemulsion gel formulation which was tested with DPPH (1.1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl) and FTC (Ferric Thiosyanate) method. A method of DPPH was done by making 5 series of concentration and read as absorbance at λ max by using spectrophotometer UV-Vis and for the method of FTC, it was read as absorbance at λ 500 nm. The result of absorbance could be used to determine the value of IC50 (DPPH method) and inhibition percent (FTC method). The result of the study using DPPH method obtained the IC50 values of nanoemulsion gel of Rambutan fruit peel extracts in the amount of 9.32 ± 0.06 mg/mL, which was higher than X® Sunscreen Gel and vitamin E with IC50 value of 40.41 ± 0.98 mg/mL and 10.41 ± 0.05 mg/mL, respectively. The results with the FTC method obtained the percent value of inhibition of 51.09 ± 0.99%, which was lower than X® Sunscreen Gel and vitamin E with percent value of inhibition of 60.07% ± 13.23% and 79.07 ± 7.62%, respectively. These results indicated that Rambutan fruit peel extracts had quite high antioxidant activity that after they were formulated into a nanoemulsion gel.

Abstract

Kata Kunci: Effervescent, Pulasan, Antioksidan, DPPH Pulasan (Nephelium mutabile Blume) is a plant that generally grows in Kalimantan. This plant is known to have high antioxidant activity, especially in its peels, but the utilization of this activity has not been widely used. This has been proven by the lack of research on the formulation of this fruit into pharmaceutical preparations that are easy and pleasant to use. The aim of this study was to obtain the optimum effervescent formula for the peel extract of pulasan that acceptable and easy to us and also the antioxidant activity of the formula was assessed using the 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) method using a UV-Vis spectrophotometer. The making of the effervescent powder of the fruit peel extract was carried out using four formulas with different extract concentrations, followed by physical stability tests including pH, organoleptic, moisture content, flow time and angle of repose tests. The results showed that there was no significant difference between the results of the organoleptic test, pH and dissolving time in the four formulas, which were included in the eligible category. However, in the test of moisture content and angle of repose the four formulas are in the category of not meeting the requirements. The optimum results in the antioxidant test of the effervescent formula of the outward skin extract were shown by formula IV determined by the IC50 value of 826.45 (μg/mL). The results of this study indicate that the pulasan peels extract can be formulated in the form of effervescent, but the selection of the concentration of the pulasan peels extract needs to be reviewed in order to obtain the optimum IC50 value.

Abstract

The growing interest in the development of phytopharmaceuticals derived from traditional medicinal plants has driven in-depth exploration of Piper aduncum L., a species with diverse therapeutic potential that has not yet been systematically consolidated. This systematic review aims to identify, analyze, and synthesize recent scientific evidence regarding the phytochemical constituents, pharmacological activities, and pharmaceutical development prospects of P. aduncum based on publications from 2021 to 2025. The study adopted the PRISMA 2020 framework, conducting a comprehensive search across five electronic databases using a combination of keywords related to the phytochemistry and pharmacology of P. aduncum. Literature selection was performed through three stages, resulting in six articles that met the inclusion criteria, consisting of two in vivo studies, three laboratory experimental studies, and one systematic review. Methodological quality assessment was conducted using the Modified Downs and Black Checklist and the SYRCLE’s Risk of Bias Tool, followed by systematic data extraction and qualitative narrative synthesis. The findings indicate that dillapiole is the predominant component of the essential oil, with concentrations ranging from 77.6–85.5%, exhibiting antiparasitic, acaricidal, antimycobacterial, immunomodulatory, and anti-inflammatory activities through mechanisms involving modulation of detoxification enzymes and intestinal microbiota. The development of nanocarrier systems has produced stable nanometric formulations with an excellent safety profile for topical applications. This review confirms the significant potential of P. aduncum as a candidate for the development of biopesticides, alternative antimicrobial agents, and phytogenic feed additives. However, further translational research is required, including extraction standardization, investigation of molecular mechanisms, pharmacokinetic–pharmacodynamic studies, long-term toxicological evaluation, and clinical trials to validate efficacy and safety prior to therapeutic application in humans.
