Abstract

Tamarind leaves have flavonoid, tannin and saponin compounds, which can be used as antibacterials. Research has been conducted on the formulation of ointment preparations from tamarind leaf ethanol extract (Tamarindus indica L.) using a variety of ointment bases, namely absorption, hydrocarbon, water soluble and washable with water (O/W emulsions). This study aims to determine the physical stability and the appropriate type of ointment base of tamarind leaf ethanol extract ointment preparation. The extraction process in this study used maceration method with 70% ethanol solvent. The formalized preparation was evaluated for physical stability for 10 days at 4°C and 25°C alternately every 24 hours (1 cycle). The evaluation included organoleptic test, pH, homogeneity and spreadability. Absorption ointment made from ethanol extract of tamarind leaves is light brown in color, smells typical of tamarind, homogeneous, has a pH of 4 and has a spreadability of 5 cm. Hydrocarbon ointment is dark brown in color, smells typical of tamarind, homogeneous, has a pH of 3 and has a spreadability of 3.95 cm. Water soluble ointment with ethanol extract of tamarind leaves is dark brown in color, smells typical of tamarind, homogeneous, has a pH of 3 and has a spreadability of 5.3-5.5 cm. Water washable ointment (O/W emulsion) is light brown in color, smells typical of tamarind, homogeneous, has a pH of 4, and has a spreadability of 3.93 cm. Based on the test results in this study, it can be concluded that the formulation of ethanol leaf extract preparation.

Abstract

Obesity is defined as the presence of abnormal amounts of body fat and is a risk factor for diabetes and can increase the risk of hernias, varices and arthroses in the knees and feet. Consumption of slimming herbs is widely used to reduce this obesity. Slimming herbal products in their ingredients or compositions contain simplisia derived from medicinal plants and have pharmacological effects. According to the Minister of Health Regulation No. 007 of 2012 concerning the registration of traditional medicines, herbs circulating in the community must meet various requirements, one of which is that they must not contain drug chemicals, narcotics or psychotropic substances and other materials that based on health considerations and research can endanger health. Sibutramine is a weight loss drug that is often used, belongs to the class of hard drugs and can only be used based on a doctor's prescription because it can increase blood pressure. The identification of sibutramine in this study was carried out qualitatively using thin layer chromatography (TLC) method, to determine the presence or absence of the addition of drug chemicals in slimming herbs sold online. The mobile phase used was methanol (p): chloroform (p) (4:1) solvent with silica GF 254 stationary phase. The results of the study showed that two of the five slimming herbs sold online contained sibutramine with the Rf value of herbal medicine A = 0.86 and herbal medicine B = 0.91.

Abstract

Eyeshadow is a decorative cosmetic or makeup that contains color pigments used on the eyelids. Based on BPOM Decree No. 23 of 2019 concerning technical requirements for cosmetic ingredients, the Indonesian government has determined more than 20 hazardous dyes, and Rhodamin B is the most widely used hazardous synthetic dye as a dyes. This study aims to find out the presence of Rhodamin B dye in eyeshadow sold around the Aceh Market and does not have a registration number by BPOM. This research was conducted in the Multifunctional Laboratory of the Faculty of Science and Technology using the Thin Layer Chromatography method. The results of the study showed that the Rf value of the eyeshadow sample with code A was 0.5 while the standard Rf was 0.8, the Rf of the B code sample was 0.53 while the standard Rf was 0.83, the Rf of the C code sample is 0.83 while the standard Rf is 0.83, the D code sample is 0.41 while the standard Rf is 0.78, and the E code sample Rf is 0.5 while the standard Rf is 0.8. Where the code C the Rf value is equal to the Rf value of the Rhodamin B standard is also 0.83, the result is positive if the sample Rf is the same or close to each other with the difference in the price of the standard Rf ≤0.2. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that 1 out of 5 eyeshadow samples sold around Pasar Aceh by Thin Layer Chromatography obtained sample C positive for containing the synthetic dye Rhodamin B.

Abstract

The nutmeg fruit (Myristica fragrans) shows the presence of secondary metabolite compounds and has antioxidant activity. The nutmeg examined in this study is the flesh of the fruit and dried for seven days to obtain simplisia. The extraction process is by maceration method using 96% ethanol solvent. Based on the results of phytochemical screening of ethanol extracts of nutmeg flesh showed the presence of secondary metabolite compounds, which are groups of alkaloids, steroids, saponins and flavonoids. The results of antioxidant activity of ethanol extract of nutmeg flesh have an IC50 value of 22.88 ppm. In this study using vitamin C as a positive control for comparison with the IC50 value obtained is 3.82 ppm. The more secondary metabolite compounds in an extract, the higher the antioxidant activity.

Abstract

Heavy metal contamination in vegetables poses a threat to humans, especially at predetermined thresholds. In this study, Pb, Cd, and Hg metals were analyzed using Flame - Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (F-AAS) and Vapor Generation Accesory - Atomic Absorption Spectrometry (VGA-AAS) methods at mining areas in Krueng Sabee Sub-District, Aceh Jaya District, Aceh Province. Method validation was conducted to obtain accurate heavy metal analysis results on the samples. The results showed that the highest Pb metal contamination was found in cassava leaf I sample with levels of 2.44 ± 1.33 mg/Kg and the lowest was found in spinach III sample with levels of 0.15 ± 0.07 mg/Kg. The high Pb content was also found in kale I and spinach I samples obtained in areas close to the mining area with levels of 1.07 ± 0.59 mg/Kg and 0.93 ± 0.50 mg/Kg, respectively. The highest Cd metal contamination content was found in kale II samples with levels of 0.11 ± 0.01 mg/Kg and the lowest Cd metal contamination with levels of 0.02 ± 0.01 mg/Kg was found in cassava leaf II samples. The highest Hg metal content of 0.58 ± 0.12 mg/Kg was found in cassava leaf I sample and the lowest level was 0.04 ± 0.02 mg/Kg owned by spinach III sample. Contamination of Hg metal in all vegetable samples showed levels that were above the established SNI 7387 (2009) quality standard of 0.03 mg/Kg. The quality standards for Pb and Cd metal contamination are 0.5 mg/Kg and 0.2 mg/Kg, respectively.  This study shows the need for government monitoring of heavy metal contamination in agricultural areas near mining activities to ensure safe food consumption.

Abstract

Trema is one of tropical forest trees that has many advantages such as wood for building, pulp and charcoal, leaves for medicine and bark for dye material. The constrain of the development of this species is the difficulties of the seeds to germinate and the rapid deterioration of the seeds after being stored. Therefore, there should be a right method to solve the problems. The aim of the study is to determine the proper method of priming to enhance the viability and vigor of trema seeds after storage. Randomized Complete Design was employed in this trial by priming the seeds before and after storage. The treatments werepriming methods including: control (no priming), matriconditioning with ash, osmoconditioning by soaking of 5% H2O2, humidify with water and hydrated-dehydrated process. The observed parameters were thepercentages and speed of germination. The results showed that the treatment method of priming the best for this type of Trema, both before storage and after storage hydration is the treatment of dehydration. Before storage, can increase the value of germination percentage and speed of germination respectively 15% and 0.9% /Etmal. After the storage, treatment hydration dehydration can increase 17% germination and speed of germination of 1.25% / Etmal.

Abstract

Abstrak Perkembangan industri kosmetik berbasis bahan alami mengalami peningkatan signifikan seiring meningkatnya kesadaran masyarakat terhadap keamanan produk, dampak kesehatan jangka panjang, dan isu keberlanjutan lingkungan. Kosmetik sintetis diketahui berpotensi menimbulkan iritasi dan efek samping apabila digunakan secara tidak tepat, sehingga mendorong pemanfaatan bahan alami yang lebih aman dan ramah lingkungan. Kopi Arabika (Coffea arabica L.) merupakan salah satu bahan alam yang mengandung senyawa bioaktif seperti kafein, polifenol, flavonoid, dan asam klorogenat yang berperan sebagai antioksidan serta agen eksfoliasi alami. Kegiatan Program Kreativitas Mahasiswa (PKM) ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan siswa dalam pembuatan kosmetik alami melalui pelatihan pembuatan body scrub berbahan kopi Arabika. Metode yang digunakan adalah pendekatan edukatif-partisipatif yang meliputi penyuluhan materi, demonstrasi formulasi, praktik langsung, serta evaluasi melalui pre-test dan post-test. Sasaran kegiatan adalah 35 siswa SMK. Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan skor pengetahuan dari rata-rata 56 menjadi 87 (peningkatan 78%). Produk scrub yang dihasilkan memiliki warna coklat alami, aroma khas kopi, tekstur semi-padat dan homogen, serta stabil selama dua minggu penyimpanan tanpa pemisahan fase. Selain meningkatkan literasi kosmetik alami, kegiatan ini juga menumbuhkan minat kewirausahaan pada 82% peserta. Pelatihan ini efektif sebagai bentuk edukasi aplikatif yang mendukung pemanfaatan bahan lokal dan pengembangan ekonomi kreatif berbasis sumber daya alam. Abstract

Luka bakar merupakan kerusakan jaringan kulit akibat trauma panas. Biji alpukat (Persea americana Mill.) mengandung flavonoid yang bersifat antiinflamasi, antioksidan, dan berperan dalam penyembuhan luka. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui efektivitas ekstrak biji alpukat serta formula krim yang optimal untuk pengobatan luka bakar. Pengujian dilakukan pada tikus jantan dengan empat formula: F0 (kontrol), F1 (5%), F2 (10%), dan F3 (15%). Hasil menunjukkan seluruh krim memenuhi standar SNI dan mempercepat penyembuhan luka bakar, dengan aktivitas terbaik pada formula F3 (15%). Kata kunci: Krim, Luka Bakar, Biji Alpukat.

Abstract

Acne is a chronic inflammatory dermatological condition affecting the pilosebaceous unit and is influenced by multiple etiological factors, one of which is bacterial colonization by Propionibacterium acnes. Nutmeg seeds have been recognized as a natural source of antibacterial agents, exhibiting stronger inhibitory activity against Gram-positive bacteria than Gram-negative strains. This antimicrobial potential is attributed to the presence of bioactive constituents, including essential oils, saponins, and alkaloids. The essential oil content of nutmeg seeds has been reported to range from approximately 2% to 16%, with an average value of around 10%.This study aimed to develop an optimized cosmetic formulation in the form of a facial serum incorporating nutmeg seed essential oil as an anti-acne agent. The quality of the formulated serum was assessed through a series of physicochemical evaluations, including organoleptic properties, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, adhesion capacity, emulsion type, and spreadability. Antibacterial efficacy was evaluated against P. acnes using the agar well diffusion method, with essential oil concentrations of 15%, 20%, 25%, and 30%. A serum base without essential oil served as the negative control, while a commercially available anti-acne serum containing erythromycin was used as the positive control.Statistical analysis using ANOVA demonstrated that all serum formulations were capable of inhibiting the growth of P. acnes.  The inhibition zone diameters observed for formulations containing 15% (F1), 20% (F2), 25% (F3), and 30% (F4) essential oil were 19.50±0.5000 mm (strong activity), 21.16±0.2887 mm, 22.33±0.2887 mm, and 24.33±0.5000 mm (very strong activity), respectively. According to standard criteria for inhibition zone interpretation, formulations with essential oil concentrations of 15%, 20%, and 25% were categorized as Intermediate (I), exhibiting inhibition diameters within the range of 14–22 mm, whereas the 30% formulation was classified as Susceptible (S) due to an inhibition zone diameter of ≥23 mm.

Abstract

Radikal bebas dapat menyebabkan penyakit degeneratif. Antioksidan dapat menangkal radikal bebas yang dapat menyebabkan penyakit degeneratif. Salah satu tanaman yang dapat menangkal radikal bebas adalah tanaman daun Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) yang banyak digunakan sebagai obat alternatif. Daun Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) mengandung metabolit sekunder seperti flavonoid dan fenolat yang berguna sebagai antioksidan. Penelitian ini menggunakan teh herbal daun anting-anting yang mengandung antioksidan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk membuktikan aktivitas antioksidan teh herbal daun Anting-anting (Acalypha indica L.) menggunakan metode DPPH (1,1-difenil-2-pikrilhidrazil) dengan vitamin C sebagai kontrol positif. DPPH merupakan senyawa radikal bebas. Percobaan dilakukan dengan teh herbal daun anting-anting dengan lima konsentrasi yang berbeda yaitu 2, 4, 6, 8, 10 ppm. Sampel dari masing-masing konsentrasi dibiarkan bereaksi dengan senyawa DPPH, setelah itu diukur nilai absorbansinya dengan spektrofotometri UV Vis pada λ 517 nm. Berdasarkan hasil tersebut, teh herbal daun anting-anting memiliki nilai IC50 sebesar 137,068 µg/mL yang tergolong moderat dan vitamin C memberikan nilai IC50 sebesar 19,364 µg/mL yang tergolong sangat aktif. Dengan demikian, dapat disimpulkan bahwa teh herbal daun anting-anting memiliki aktivitas antioksidan yang sedang dalam menangkal radikal bebas.
