Abstract

Business opportunities in the agricultural sector have great potential, especially in processing harvests into value-added products. The potential for developing processed harvest products in Balikpapan is substantial, given its role as a primary producer of secondary crops used as the main raw materials. Therefore, the Kalimantan Institute of Technology seeks to contribute to the development of community welfare, especially in Balikpapan. The method used is identifying problems and finding solutions.  The main problem faced by the Swa Tani Farmers group is the direct sale of their harvests to the collector or through safekeeping at nearby kiosks. The production of harvest-derived products is a part-time endeavor, with sales exclusively conducted through kiosks or WhatsApp (WA) groups. Community service activities have been implemented to foster an entrepreneurial spirit by encouraging creativity and innovation. The innovations carried out are in the form of developing processed harvest products and also management innovations in the marketing sector.  Marketing training contains material to provide an in-depth understanding of the importance of marketing strategies, as well as simple but effective marketing methods.  The practiced harvest product is in the form of sticks, with the primary raw materials for stick production being cassava, taro, and bananas.  Evaluation of the results of processed products shows that cassava sticks dominate in consumer choice, while taro sticks require further adjustments, and banana sticks need additional flavor aspects.

Abstract

Mining commodities such as coal, gold, copper, and other mining products are closely related to the use of conveyors. In the material handling process, metal shards follow into the bulk material. This incident can cause damage to the crusher teeth. Therefore, this study developed a conveyor with a metal impurity sorting system. To detect, the sensor used is an inductive proximity sensor. When Mining material moves from the head pulley to the tail pulley, the inductive proximity sensor detects metal shards. The proximity sensor detects metal shards to be input, and then the Arduino Uno orders the servo motor to move the sorting lever. The independent variables used are mining materials and metal shards. The mining materials are used in the form of coal, sand, and rock. At the same time, the metal shards are iron (Fe), Copper (Cu), and Aluminum (Al). The dependent variable used is the response effectiveness of the metal sorter. Based on the study's results, the conclusion is that the proximity sensor can work well. The inductive proximity sensor can detect metal shards with a success rate of 92.59%. When the sensor detects metal impurities, instructions will be given to the servo motor and actuate the sorting lever. The success rate of the sorting lever that pushes and separates metal impurities from the mining material is 88.89%.

Abstract

Fire protection can increase occupational safety and security factors from fire hazards. Therefore, this research aims to design a fire protection system in an integrated laboratory building. The fire protection design is active fire protection, namely yard hydrants and fire extinguishers. This research uses engineering research methods. The standards used are NFPA 14, NFPA 24, Regulation of PER.04/MEN/1980 and SNI 03-1375-2000. Fire extinguishers are designed by determining the minimum number of extinguishers required and the type of extinguishers to be used. The yard hydrant design is carried out by determining the minimum number of yard hydrants required. Based on the research results, 22 fire extinguishers are required on the 1st floor, while 12 fire extinguishers are required on each of the 2nd and 3rd floors. Based on the fire class, the recommended APAR is dry chemical powder and CO2. The number of hydrants required is 9, the groundwater tank volume is 130 m3 and the obtained flow is 0.04 m3/s with a total head of 54,342 m. The appropriate pump specification is therefore the Ebara centrifugal pump type 150x125 FS4LA with a power of 54,342 kW.

Abstract

Abstract

Solid waste management problems have become a common problem in Indonesia. Based on data from the Central Bureau of Statistics' Environmental Care Behavior Indicator in 2017, it shows that 58.32% of Indonesians do not sort their waste. Kalimantan Institute of Technology (ITK) is a campus that carries the concept of eco-campus. Waste segregation has been programmed, but in reality in the field, waste segregation is not running. Therefore, this study was conducted with the aim of knowing the preferences and participation of ITK academic community in waste segregation at ITK. The survey results showed that out of 380 respondents, although 90% had seen posters about waste segregation at ITK, only 57.6% stated that they had done waste segregation at ITK, which was mostly based on the factor of facilitating management both by ITK and at the landfill. For the other 44.2% of respondents who do not or only sometimes do waste segregation, it was found that the biggest factor that made them do so was based on the desire to segregate at the beginning, but when opening the trash can, the waste inside was already mixed.
