Abstract

Entrepreneurship is increasingly seen as an important strategy in reducing unemployment among college graduates and promoting economic resilience. This study aims to examine the predictive role of self-efficacy an individual's belief in their ability to complete a specific task in shaping entrepreneurial interest among university students. Self-efficacy is believed to influence how individuals perceive opportunities and challenges in starting a business, thereby playing a central role in entrepreneurial motivation. A descriptive quantitative approach was used in this study, with data collected through a structured questionnaire distributed to 348 students from nine faculties at the University of Padang. The questionnaire was designed using a Likert scale to measure levels of self-efficacy and interest in entrepreneurship. Data analysis was conducted using descriptive tests, normality, linearity, homogeneity, and hypothesis testing using Pearson's correlation. The results of the study showed a positive and significant relationship between self-efficacy and entrepreneurial interest (significance value= 0.012), with a Pearson correlation coefficient of 0.113, indicating a moderate relationship. Most students demonstrated relatively low levels of self-efficacy and interest in entrepreneurship, but students with high self-efficacy tended to have greater interest in entrepreneurship. These findings emphasize the importance of integrating self-confidence building into university entrepreneurship programs to enhance students' readiness and motivation to enter the entrepreneurial world after graduation.

Abstract

The rising demand for concrete in the building sector has resulted in the exhaustion of natural sand and freshwater supplies, leading to the pursuit of sustainable substitutes. Coastal areas have plentiful ferronickel slag (SL) and seawater (SW), which can be used to manufacture concrete. Nevertheless, the possibility of corrosion to steel reinforcement raises concerns that require further research. This investigation examines the mechanical and durability performance of concrete that incorporates SL as a partial replacement for fine aggregate and SW as a mixing component. The objective is to optimize SL content to improve compressive strength, resistance to chloride ions, and overall durability. Experimental results show that replacing 25% of the aggregate with SL yields the best combination of workability, strength, and durability, significantly enhancing compressive strength, decreasing porosity, and lessening chloride ion penetration, as evidenced by the Rapid Chloride Penetration Test (RCPT). Although seawater promotes early-age hydration and strength development, its extended use slightly diminishes compressive strength due to salt-induced micro-cracking. However, SL counters these effects, making SW–SL mixture a feasible and sustainable option for concrete production in coastal and resource-limited areas. A significant relationship between RCPT and compressive strength underscores the important role of SL in densifying the matrix and improving impermeability. The concrete mixture with 25% SL exhibits the lowest abrasion weight loss at 28 and 120 days, showing improved durability. This study highlights the potential of using SL and seawater to create eco-friendly and high-performance concrete for harsh environments.

Abstract

Access to clean water is essential for human life and a key target of Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6: Clean Water and Sanitation. However, cities in developing countries, including Padang City, Indonesia, face significant challenges in meeting the growing demand due to population growth and limited water infrastructure. This study used system dynamics modelling approach with Powersim Studio 10 to develop an integrated clean water management system for Padang City. The model simulates the dynamics of population growth, water consumption, production, and distribution efficiency over a 20-year period (2022–2042). Several policy scenarios—optimistic, moderate, and pessimistic—were tested to evaluate their impact on water availability. The baseline scenario predicts a continuous decline in clean water supply due to increasing population, high leakage rates (11.99%), and water wastage (2%), which surpass the water production growth rate (5.01%). As a result, a water deficit is expected. However, under the optimistic scenario, with increased production (10%), reduced leakage (8%), and reduced wastage (3%), Padang City could achieve a clean water surplus by 2042. The moderate and pessimistic scenarios still result in a deficit. This research highlights the value of the system dynamics modelling in forecasting urban water demand and assessing policy impacts. The findings emphasize the need for integrated planning, combining technical solutions and behavioural change, to ensure sustainable water management and support the achievement of SDG 6.

Abstract

Limapuluh Kota Regency is one of the rice producing districts in West Sumatra Province, so an irrigation network is needed to meet water requirement for agricultural productivity. The problem that occurs in the Batang Sanipan 2 irrigation area is the inability of water to flow through the service area to the end point of the irrigation area. Based on observations from e-PAKSI data from the Limapuluh Kota Regency Public Works Office, water can only flow up to a distance of 3.175 km from the intake gate and experience water loss along 1.445 km to the end of the canal. Therefore, it is necessary to study the analysis of irrigation water requirement in the irrigation area of Batang Sanipan 2, Limapuluh Kota Regency. This type of research is descriptive with a quantitative approach. Research methods carried out directly in the field. Based on data analysis, the results obtained from the manual calculation of KP – 01 the maximum irrigation water requirement with a value of 0.139 m3/second which occurred in March, while in the Cropwat software the maximum irrigation water requirement with a value of 0.149 m3/second which occurred in July. The results of measuring the discharge at the intake of the Batang Sanipan 2 weir obtained a discharge of 0.378 m3/second. Based on this, water is sufficient to flow through the entire agricultural area of the Batang Sanipan 2 irrigation area, but the current conditions are that water is not able to flow through parts of the Batang Sanipan 2 irrigation service area.
