Abstract

The sumba ongole cattles (Bos indicus) is one of local cattles in Indonesia. Oral cavity of cattle contains parotid and mandibular salivary glands, which have an important role to digesting food. This research aimed to identify the morphology of parotid and mandibular salivary glands of sumba ongole cattles. The sample were obtained from Sumba Timur slaughter house. Six samples were used and fixated in formalin 10%. Then samples were processed with paraffin method for HE stain. The results showed that parotid salivary glands of sumba ongole cattle were pure serous gland compared to mixed type (seromucous) in mandibular salivary glands. Parotid salivary glands acini of sumba ongole cattle consisted pyramid and cuboid cells. Pyramid acini consisted of pyramid cell, rounded nuclei and in center cell, eosinophilic sitoplasm, narrow lumen and had granules. Cuboid acini consisted of cuboid cell with nuclei in center cell, larger lumen, eosinophilic sitoplasm and had granules. Mandibular salivary glands acini of sumba ongole cattle consisted of serous acini, mucous acini and serous demillune. Serous acini consisted of pyramid cell, rounded nuclei in center cell, and eosinophilic sitoplasm. Mucous acini consisted of pyramid cell and had flattened nuclei in base cell. Serous demillune consisted of serous in peripher and mucous cells and seen to be crescent cell. Ducts system consisted of intercalated, striated and interlobular ducts. Interlobular ducts of parotid salivary glands had goblet cell while in mandibular glands not seen goblet cell.

Abstract

Sumba ongole cattle (Bos indicus) are one of the local cattle breed in Indonesia. Cattle have a forestomach which consists of rumen, reticulum and omasum. The functions of the forestomach are to digest food, ferment and absorb carbohydrates. This research aimed to determine the histological structure of rumen, reticulum and omasum sumba ongole cattle. Six samples of rumen, reticulum and omasum were collected from slaughter East Sumba. These samples were fixed in 10% formalin and then stain with HE. The histological results showed that the rumen, reticulum and omasum have four layers was the tunica mucosa, the submucosa, the muscularis and the serosa. The tunica mucosa rumen consists of lamina epithelia which composed of stratified squamous keratinized epithelium, lamina propria have connective tissue and blood vessels. The lamina muscularis mucosa composed of smooth muscle was absent in rumen mucosa, while tunica mucosa of reticulum and omasum have a lamina epithelia, lamina propria and lamina muscularis mucosa. The tunica submucosa rumen, reticulum and omasum have connective tissue, veins, arteries, capillaries and fibroblast nuclei. The tunica muscularis rumen, reticulum and omasum have inner circular and outer longitudinal muscular. The tunica serosa rumen, reticulum and omasum consist of blood vessels, loose connective tissue and adipose tissue.

Abstract

Increasing the economy of rural communities is a process of improving an economic effort to meet the needs of life through an empowerment system form that meets human needs by utilizing surrounding natural resources. Natural resources owned by rural communities are the potential to be developed to improve the economy of the village community. If freshwater aquaculture is well developed and managed properly, it will bring beneficial results in line with the increase in fulfillment of public’ requirements. The purpose of community service program activities in Camplong II Village, Fatuleu District, Kupang Regency was community empowerment through freshwater aquaculture using the pond method. The people of Camplong II village have limited access to obtaining fresh fish products as its location is around 45-50 km from Kupang city which is known for its fresh sea products. Thus, the activities implemented were training on the installation of a square pond, providing 500 fish seeds and fish feed for 2 periods, mentoring and monitoring the maintenance of this pond, and developing human resources. The results obtained: installation of several fish pond with a diameter of 3 meters and a height of 4.0 m, an increase in community knowledge and skills, an early fish harvest stocked from this period which can improve the welfare of the community in Camplong II Village, Kupang Regency. From the results obtained there is potential in the form of land, water sources, and facilities that can be empowered to increase fish water farming production.

Abstract

The counseling and training program for traditional chicken farming of KUB (Kampung Unggul Balitbangtan) chicken strain had been done at Tafena Kuan group in Camplong II Village. The purpose of implementing this program is community empowerment in developing local poultry farming businesses in order to overcome food insecurity, reduce dependency on imported poultry commodities, and build community independence in providing good quality protein sources of food. This program was carried out from April to December 2020 at Tafena Kuan group, located in Camplong II village, Kupang Regency of East Nusa Tenggara province. The Tafena Kuan group has 22 members of chicken farmers. The community service team provided assistance in the form of six KUB chickens, chicken feed, vaccines, vitamins, and worm medicine to each farmer. The counseling and training had been followed by all farmers. Farmers of the Tafena Kuan group built chicken cages independently using local materials and started running a KUB chicken breeding intensively.

Abstract

Green jungle fowl is one of the endemic animals in Indonesia. One of the distribution areas of green jungle fowl in East Nusa Tenggara is the island of Alor. Until now there has been no research conducted to determine the histological structure of the green jungle fowl so that this study was conducted with the aim of knowing the histological structure and muscle histomorphometry of the green jungle fowl. The research samples were pectoralis and bicep femoris muscles taken from three green jungle fowl in Kalabahi, Alor Regency. Muscle tissue was fixed using 10% formalin, histological preparations were made and stained with hematoxylin and eosin (HE). The results showed that the muscle histomorphology in the transverse section showed that the skeletal muscle of the green jungle fowl was composed of muscle fibers in a polygonal shape with many nuclei at the edges and connective tissue. No intramuscular fat cells were found. In the longitudinal section, it consists of muscle fibers with a light dark line pattern, the cell nucleus is elongated at the edges and connective tissue. The results of muscle histomorphometry, namely the diameter of the muscle fibers, the diameter of the fasciculus and the thickness of the connective tissue in the bicep femoris muscle area were higher than the pectoralis muscle area. The number of muscle fibers in each fasciculus in the bicep pectoralis muscle area is more than in the bicep femoris muscle area. Muscle histomorphometry is influenced by species, breed/race, age, diet, activity level and anatomical location.

Abstract

Babi timor (Sus scrofa domesticus) merupakan ternak monogastrik yang dapat memenuhi sumber protein hewani dan berpotensi untuk dikembangkan. Babi memiliki kemampuan dalam mengkonversi pakan yang kemudian diubah menjadi daging dan lemak dengan sangat efisien. Penentuan kualitas daging dapat ditentukan dengan mengamati struktur histologi dan mengukur parameter histomorfometri otot. Penelitian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk mengetahui struktur histologi dan histomorfometri otot babi timor. Sampel penelitian berupa otot longissimus dorsi dan bicep femoris diperoleh dari tiga ekor babi timor di Pasar Ternak Lili-Camplong. Jaringan otot difiksasi dalam larutan formalin 10% dan dilakukan pembuatan sediaan histologi serta pewarnaan hematoksilin dan eosin (HE). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan mikromorfologi jarigan otot babi timor tersusun atas serabut-serabut otot berupa sel memanjang ditunjang oleh jaringan ikat, tersusun dalam berkas pararel dengan arah kontraksi terlihat jelas pada potongan longitudinal sedangkan pada potongan transversal serabut otot berbentuk poligonal dengan inti sel dibagian tepi membentuk banyak fasikulus, terdapat jaringan ikat (endomisium, perimisium, dan epimisium) serta deposisi jaringan lemak. Parameter histomorfometri jaringan otot babi timor yaitu diameter serabut otot, jumlah serabut otot per fasikulus, diameter fasikulus dan ketebalan jaringan ikat pada area otot longissimus dorsi lebih rendah dibandingkan pada area otot biceps femoris. Histomorfometri otot dipengaruhi oleh lokasi dan tingkat aktivitas otot, bangsa, umur, serta pakan/nutrisi.

Abstract

Sumba Ongole Cattle (Bos indicus) is one of the local breed cattle in Indonesia and is properly developing on the island of Sumba. One of the organ systems that has important role in cleanig the rest of metabolism in animals are kidney. This research is aimed to observe the structure of anatomy and histologycal of the kidney. This study uses 3 pairs of kidney of the male and female sumba ongole cattle with age range 3-5 years. Samples are colected in Rumah Potong Hewan (RPH) Regency of East Sumba. Macroscopic observations were performed, and sample were fixed in 10% formalin solution. Furthermore, on the histological preparations and continued with HE staining. The macroscopic of the kidney showed that sumba ongole cattle had lobed shape, elastic consistency, adn brownish red in color. Meanwhile in microscopic observations showed, there are glomerulus, Bowman’s capsule, urin space/ Bowman’s space, mesangial cell, macula densa, proximal convolated tubule, distal convulated tubule, and collecting tubule.

Abstract

Timor pig (Sus scrofa domesticus) is classified as one of local Indonesia pigs breed of Sus scrofa. Salivary glands had huge contribution to the digestive system. This research aimed to identify the gross anatomy and histomorphology of the parotid and mandibular glands in Timor pigs. Five samples were taken from Atambua slaughter house. Observation of gross anatomy were carried out directed in slaughter house. Then, the glands were fixated in 10% formalin and stained with HE. The results showed the parotid gland was located on the ventral of the auricle and stretched superficially along the caudal masseter muscle to the caudal of the lower jaw. The parotid gland had brown triangle-shape lobules. The mandibular gland was located in the caudal of the lower jaw or profundus of the parotid gland and had pinkish irregular-shape with rounded edges. The asinar cells of the parotid gland were dominated by serous acini with pyramid-like cells. Serous cells were round-shaped in center of cell membrane. Other serous cells called special serous cells were round-shaped pressed into basal of cell membrane. The asinar cells of the mandibular gland were dominated by mucous acini and discovered serous acini and serous demilune. Pyramid-like mucous cells had flat nucleus in basal of cell membrane. Pyramid-like serous cells had round nucleus in center of cell membrane. Serous cell that arranged in peripheral mucous acini will form into serous demilune. The ducts on the parotid and mandibular glands comprised of the intercalated ducts, the striated ducts and the excretory ducts.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui struktur morfologi anatomi dan histologi kelenjar parotis dan mandibularis babi hutan (Sus scrofa). Organ kelenjar parotis dan mandibularis dikoleksi dari 3 ekor babi hutan (Sus scrofa) dengan kriteria sehat berasal dari Kecamatan Fatuleu, Camplong 1, Kabupaten Kupang. Hewan disembelih, dinekrospsi, dilakukan pengamatan makroskopik, kemudian kelenjar parotis dan mandibularis dipotong dengan ketebalan ± 1 cm dan difiksasi dalam formalin 10%, selanjutnya dilakukan pewarnaan Hematoksilin Eosin (HE), dan pengamatan mikroskopik di Laboratorium Anatomi, Fisiologi, Farmakologi dan Biokimia Fakutas Kedokteran dan Kedokteran Hewan, Universitas Nusa Cendana. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan kelenjar parotis mempunyai bentuk menyerupai segitiga tidak beraturan dan berwarna merah segar. Kelenjar mandibularis berbentuk tidak beraturan dan berwarna merah muda. Sel asinar kelenjar parotis babi hutan dominan asinus serosa sedangkan sel asinar kelenjar mandibularis babi hutan didominasi asinus mukus dan terdapat asinus serosa dan demilun serosa. Adapun duktus pada kelenjar parotis dan mandibularis babi hutan meliputi duktus interkalatus, duktus striatus dan duktus ekskretorius.

Abstract

Community service activities are a form of actualization of the academic community's social responsibility and concern for the problems faced by the wider community. One form of this activity includes community assistance to expand knowledge and improve skills in order to improve living standards. This community service activity in Bonen Hamlet, Baumata Village, Taebenu District aims to provide assistance to PKK women regarding intensive and modern management of KUB chicken farms. The methods used in this service activity include building cages, counseling, handing over KUB chicken seeds, feed and cage equipment, as well as community assistance and ongoing monitoring. The conclusion obtained is an increase in community knowledge and skills regarding the advantages of raising KUB chickens, business opportunities for cultivating KUB chickens, management of the care and health of KUB chickens, as well as partner groups having sustainable entrepreneurial capital.
