Abstract

The application of solar power plant technology as a backup power source at Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School, Yogyakarta, aims to address the challenges caused by disrupted electricity supply. This Islamic boarding school has a strategic location due to its close access to the city center of Yogyakarta. The school relies on electricity for its educational and worship activities. A study was conducted to assess the potential of solar energy, geographical conditions, and the readiness of Hidayatullah Islamic Boarding School to adopt renewable energy technology. After the assessment, structured implementation activities, such as awareness socialization, training, and direct assistance, were carried out to ensure the management of the solar power system by the school administration. The results of the Community Service program showed that a solar power system had successfully been implemented to address disruptions during power outages, thereby improving worship and educational activities. This program encourages partner involvement and environmental awareness among the school management and students. Recommendations for ensuring the program’s sustainability include training, routine performance evaluations, and potential partnerships with government and private organizations to promote the use of renewable energy. This successful program is expected to serve as a model for other educational institutions seeking to implement renewable energy technology. Keyword: energy, solar, power plant, backup, community service.

Abstract

The use of fossil energy and coal has a significant impact on global warming through increased greenhouse gas emissions, particularly carbon dioxide (CO2). To address this issue, green technologies offer sustainable solutions, including the development of electric propulsion systems on unmanned aircraft (UAVs). Electric propulsion uses clean energy sources such as batteries and hydrogen fuel cells, significantly reducing emissions and air pollution. This research explores the importance of applying green technologies in the optimization of electric propulsion on UAVs, and the resulting environmental and economic benefits. Electric propulsion technology not only reduces carbon footprint and air pollution, but also improves energy efficiency and extends the operational life of UAVs. In addition, it allows UAVs to operate more quietly, reduces noise pollution, and can be used in various sensitive environments. The implementation of green technologies in UAV electric propulsion systems faces challenges such as limited battery capacity and recharging infrastructure. However, with collaboration between industry, government and research institutions, as well as regulatory support and incentives, the development of these technologies can be accelerated to achieve more environmentally friendly and sustainable UAV operations. Through the application of electric propulsion technology, UAVs are expected to provide innovative and sustainable solutions in areas such as aerial surveying, security surveillance, and freight forwarding, while making a positive impact on the environment and sustainability of the global ecosystem.

Abstract

Aviation safety is highly dependent on the accuracy of the tools used, including torque wrenches used in aircraft maintenance. This study evaluated the accuracy of the QD2R200 snap-on torque wrench following the ISO 6789-2017 calibration method using the Stahlwille standard. The study was conducted in the Batam Aero Technic calibration laboratory, with torque wrench measurements at their nominal capacities of 20%, 60%, and 100%. Measurements were repeated five times at each nominal point. The calibration results on the two tools in the laboratory showed that the variation in deviation of the tool with serial number 1016901448 reached ±9%, while the tool with serial number 1116802022 had a deviation of less than ±2%. Testing was carried out in clockwise and counterclockwise directions. The t-test showed a significant difference in results between the two tools, namely p = 0.003. These results emphasize the importance of periodic calibration and show that the ISO 6789:2017 method is effective in measuring torque wrench accuracy, which is important in ensuring safety and reliability in the aviation industry.

Abstract

Gondang Hamlet, Donokerto Village, faces challenges in accessing clean water, especially during the dry season, as the main water source comes from a turbid river flow. This community service initiative aims to address the issue by implementing a simple water filtration technology using a combination of media such as silica sand, zeolite, activated carbon, and magnesium. The design, training, and installation processes were carried out collaboratively with local residents to ensure sustainable usage. The results showed an improvement in water quality after filtration, although there was a challenge in the form of reduced water flow, which was resolved by installing an additional pump. This program also emphasizes the involvement of the community in maintaining the equipment and conducting regular monitoring to ensure the long-term functionality of the system. Abstract

Abstract

Corrosion is a serious problem that can reduce the service life of materials, increase maintenance costs, and reduce the safety level of various construction systems. On the other hand, Indonesia still faces challenges in managing organic waste such as cucumber peels and tea powder that have not been optimally utilized. This research offers an innovative idea in the form of EcoGuard, an anti-corrosion paint based on active extracts from cucumber peel and tea powder waste as an environmentally friendly coating material. The method used is a literature study through searching various scientific publications related to the characteristics of active compounds in cucumber peel and tea powder waste, coating paint formulation, and corrosion resistance testing on metal materials. The results of the literature review show that the antioxidant content, polyphenols, and other organic compounds inboth wastes have the potential to act as natural corrosion inhibitors.  This potential utilization is expected to slow down the corrosion rate by tens of percent compared to conventional coatings based on chemicals or heavy metals. This innovation contributes to improving material maintenance efficiency while presenting an environmentally friendly waste-to-product approach. As such, EcoGuard has the potential to become a sustainable coating technologysupporting the achievement of SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 12(Responsible Consumption and Production), and SDG 13 (Climate Action).
