Abstract

Concern for environmental problems is needed from an early age. Environmental education in schools through the Caring and Cultured Environment program in schools (PBLHS) is one of the efforts to shape the environmental behavior of the younger generation. SDI Al-Mashduqie does not yet have programs related to environmental education and 'adiwiyata schools'. The aim of this community-based empowerment is to implement the PBLHS movement which is realized in the 'Adiwiyata School'. This activity was carried out with the participation of students, teachers, principals and student guardians who are expected to provide environmental insights for all school members. The existing conditions show that there is no specific policy regarding the environment that is applied in schools. Learning about the environment in the curriculum is integrated with several subjects and there is no involvement of external parties in environmental preservation activities. Increased knowledge was obtained after conducting education related to adiwiyata, especially regarding environmental care and waste management, as well as using several technologies to support a green and healthy environment in the form of redesigning school landscapes, hydroponic training, biofloc catfish cultivation and socialization related to energy conservation by using solar electricity.

Abstract

Madura is an area in Indonesia that is well-known for its high cattle population. However, like many other industries, the Sonok cattle business in Madura has been greatly impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. In order to determine the extent of this impact, as well as the adaptation and livelihood strategies of Sonok cattle farmers, a study was conducted in West Dempo Village, Pasean District, Pamekasan Regency. This village is the center of superior Sonok cattle and the origin of their existence. The study used descriptive statistics as its method and found that the pandemic has caused a decline in the prices of Sonok cattle and lowered the motivation of farmers to buy them. As a result, farmers have had to adapt and reduce costs wherever possible. The access to capital owned by Sonok cattle breeders, however, is relatively good and is used to form a livelihood strategy. These strategies include on-farm strategies, multiple livelihood patterns, and migration. In response to the pandemic, some farmers have also added other farm animals, such as fighting chickens, to their livelihood strategies.

Abstract

Currently, climate change poses a threat to agriculture, including in the Bengawan Solo watershed. This study aims to explore farmers' perceptions of climate change and understand the adaptations they undertake. The study was conducted in Mejuwet Village, Sumberrejo Subdistrict, Bojonegoro Regency, using qualitative. This study involved six informants, consisting of three farmers and three farm laborers. The selection of informants was based on the criterion of having more than ten years of experience in farming. Data was collected using in-depth interview and observation. Subsequently, the data were analyzed using an interactive model. The study indicates that farmers have knowledge of and can articulate the climate changes they have encountered, albeit with some limitations in understanding, and they actively participate in adaptation efforts. Farmer adaptation encompasses technical modifications like establishing planting schedules and methods, and choosing high-quality varieties. Cultural adaptation encompasses traditions like the wiwitan ceremony. Social adaptation involves using social connections and prioritizing investments in children's schooling. Lastly, economic adaptation involves broadening job opportunities and liquidating assets.

Abstract

Karst plays an important role in ecology. However, currently, karst areas in Indonesia are experiencing vulnerability. This study aims to examine the livelihood strategies of households around the karst area. The research was conducted in Leran Wetan Village, Palang District, Tuban Regency. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. This research seeks to complement the Sustainable Lifelihood Framework by using the concept of habitus presented by Bourdieu. The main livelihood strategy of the community remains linked to the agricultural sector, especially as farmers or farm laborers, although agricultural mechanization and traditional institutional changes have occurred. Ecological vulnerabilities, such as flooding, trigger changes in livelihood strategies, including working in other sectors. Although there are limestone mines as a new source of livelihood, they are only enjoyed by a small part of the community. The livelihood strategy taken is influenced by the social construction of actors in interpreting karst areas. These findings further confirm that livelihood strategy is a social practice.
