Abstract

The library paradigm in the digital era has undergone a significant transformation from merely serving as a repository of collections to becoming a center for the management and dissemination of knowledge, thereby positioning librarians as knowledge facilitators who assist the academic community in accessing, understanding, and utilizing information effectively. This study aims to analyze the strategies of librarians at Universitas Andalas in transferring knowledge to library users through the implementation of the SECI (Socialization, Externalization, Combination, Internalization) model. The study employs a descriptive qualitative approach with data collected through observation and document analysis, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model. The findings show that all four stages of the SECI model have been implemented systematically: socialization through direct interaction and personal assistance, externalization through the preparation of guidelines and digital tutorials, combination through the integration of various sources of explicit information, and internalization through the enhancement of students’ abilities in digital literacy and scientific citation ethics. These results underscore that successful knowledge transfer in libraries depends not only on technological infrastructure but also on interpersonal communication, a culture of knowledge sharing, and the competencies of librarians as learning agents. This study contributes to strengthening the perspective of knowledge management in university library settings and can serve as a reference for the development of SECI-based service strategies in the future.

Abstract

The Front Office is the frontline service unit that plays a strategic role in shaping library users’ service experiences in academic libraries, including the Andalas University Library, where interactions between staff and users are highly intensive. This study aimed to analyze users’ perceptions of the service experiences they receive at the Front Office of the Andalas University Library by drawing on theories of perception, service quality (SERVQUAL), and service experience. The method employed was a literature study with descriptive analysis of works related to library services, service quality, and user behavior. The findings indicate that users’ perceptions of the Front Office are shaped by several key factors, namely staff interpersonal communication competence, clarity of information, speed and accuracy of service procedures, staff professionalism in addressing users’ needs, and the quality of the Front Office’s physical facilities; these factors jointly contribute to the formation of both positive and negative service experiences. The study underscores the importance of strengthening service standards, enhancing staff competencies, optimizing service information, and developing Front Office physical facilities as key strategies for improving users’ perceptions of and satisfaction with services at the Andalas University Library as a whole.

Abstract

Libraries, as institutions that provide information and knowledge, are increasingly required to adapt to technological developments and changing user needs in the digital era. This study aims to examine library management strategies in Indonesia with a focus on strategic planning, human resource management, and key challenges encountered. The method used is a literature review by analyzing various credible sources that discuss library management practices and their development. The findings indicate that well-formulated strategic planning, training and competency development for librarians, and the ability to adapt to information technology are key success factors in library management. However, budget constraints, the shortage of professional librarians, and low public interest in library services remain significant obstacles to optimizing the role of libraries. In conclusion, libraries need to adopt innovative and sustainable strategies to improve service quality, strengthen social relevance, and expand their reach and utilization amid the dynamics of the digital era.

Abstract

This study discusses the role of librarians in meeting users’ information needs at the Andalas University Library, emphasizing the importance of librarians as intermediaries between information resources and users amid the rapid development of information technology. The aim of the study is to analyze how librarians perform this function within the context of a modern academic library. The method employed is a literature study by reviewing various written sources related to the role of librarians, information services, and the development of digital libraries in academic settings. The findings indicate that librarians no longer function solely as collection managers, but also as learning facilitators and research partners who actively support the academic activities of the university community. Strategies to improve the quality of information services are carried out through the development of digital library systems, the enhancement of librarians’ professional competencies, and the optimization of facilities and collections so that they are more responsive to users’ needs. The study concludes that digital transformation is key to creating information services that are efficient, accurate, and relevant to users’ academic needs, while also underscoring the need to strengthen librarians’ capacities to ensure the continuity of the library’s strategic role in higher education institutions.

Abstract

This study is a literature review that aims to analyze in depth the strategic role of digital libraries in improving the quality of information services in the modern technological era. Digital libraries are positioned as a form of institutional transformation from conventional systems toward a technology-based ecosystem that is dynamic, efficient, and responsive to user needs. Through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT), libraries function not only as repositories of electronic collections but also as knowledge centers that support academic activities, research, and lifelong learning. The research employed a qualitative descriptive literature review method by analyzing national and international journal articles, reference books, and government policies related to information digitalization. The findings show that digital libraries contribute to operational efficiency, equitable access to information, the strengthening of digital and information literacy, and enhanced interinstitutional collaboration. However, the success of their implementation is strongly influenced by the quality of infrastructure, the competencies of librarians, and the sustainability of digital management policies. Accordingly, digital libraries play a pivotal role in building an inclusive, knowledgeable, and competitive knowledge-based society in the global era.
