Abstract

Purpose — The existence of agency problems is widely recognized in various academic fields. Nevertheless, as argued by many scholars, agency theory has obvious shortcomings both theoretically and empirically. The aim of this study is to analyze and compare the conventional Standard Agency Theory (SAT) and the Behavioral Agency Model (BAM) as a refined framework of an agency model.Method — The methods used for this study were descriptive analysis, involving the review and comparison of the work of Wiseman & Gomez-Mejia (1998) and Pepper & Gore (2015). The technique employed and proposed for this method is to analyze and compare the relevant elements between SAT and BAM.Result — It is found that BAM can provide a better framework for modifying and understanding such agency problems in organizations, particularly in terms of human factors, organization, and information assumptions that are considered to balance the roles of the principal and the agent as actors in the organization.Contribution  — This study contributes to the body of knowledge by refining the old and conventional standard agency theory (SAT) and introducing BAM as a new concept. BAM sheds light not only on the roles of actors and organizations but also on the application of a behavioral economics approach to provide a robust and rigorous method for analyzing "agency problems" in organizations, especially in private business families around the world.

Abstract

This paper explores the Maulid Tradition within the socio-cultural context of urban society, focusing on the city of Semarang. The Maulid Tradition not only reflects religious spirituality but also has significant social and political implications. This research employs a field study method to analyze the Maulid celebrations across various mosque communities in Semarang. The findings indicate that these celebrations serve as a medium for strengthening community identity and social interaction, as well as creating a space for discussing relevant social issues. Furthermore, the Maulid Tradition plays a role in social mobilization and reinforces identity politics within a multicultural society. With the dynamics of tradition, transition, and innovation, communities are able to interpret the Maulid Tradition in a modern context, fostering collective awareness and cooperation, as well as promoting interfaith tolerance. The conclusion of this study emphasizes that, despite differing views on the Maulid celebrations, this tradition remains an important means to strengthen the identity and solidarity of the Muslim community in Semarang.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Some Indonesian students aged 10–12 at the Indonesian Embassy in Malaysia's PNF Learning Center (PKBM PNF) still demonstrate low basic literacy skills. This condition is related to family backgrounds that do not have clear legal status due to unregistered marriages and the lack of valid citizenship documents. In addition, parental involvement in accompanying children's learning process at home is relatively low due to the demands of full-time work. This study aims to accompany and improve basic literacy skills through the ABACAGA Guidebook and contextual fiqh materials. The population in this study were PMI elementary school children in grades 1 and 2 with a sample of 20 students. This study used a qualitative empirical method with a participatory approach. Data were obtained through observation, interviews, pre-tests and post-tests, and direct documentation in the field. The conclusion from the results of this mentoring was able to improve basic literacy skills, strengthen children's learning habits, and introduce basic fiqh understanding such as ablution, prayer, and short readings. Each child we support shows varying levels of progress, proving that all children excel in their own talents, and with the right approach, they can develop optimally, even with limitations.   Keywords: literacy, abacaga method, Islamic jurisprudence

Abstract

Sumberkedawung village, particularly the hamlets of Sempol and Kedungminian, is an agrarian area where shallots constitute the primary commodity and serve as a major driver of the local economy. Despite this potential, the shallot sector has not fully translated into improved farmer welfare due to several persistent challenges, including unstable market prices, limited financial capital, the absence of subsidised fertilisers, insufficient technical assistance from farmer groups and agricultural agencies, and weak post-harvest creative management. This study and community engagement programme employed a Participatory Action Research (PAR) approach, comprising several stages: general mapping, thematic mapping, transect walks, Focus Group Discussions (FGDs), problem- and objective-tree analyses, and the formulation of community-approved action plans. The principal intervention involved organising a seminar entitled “Creative Economy Development for Shallot Farmers to Improve Community Income in Sumberkedawung Village”, involving farmers and leaders of local farmer groups. The programme successfully encouraged a shift in farmers’ mindsets from relying solely on selling raw produce toward embracing value-added processing and developing high-quality shallot seed enterprises. These initiatives opened new opportunities for more stable and sustainable income generation. By the conclusion of the programme, the community demonstrated enhanced understanding of agricultural management and the potential of creative economic strategies, and formulated recommendations for developing processed shallot-based products as a pathway to improving the socio-economic well-being of farming households.
