Abstract

It is a fact that Indonesia is a diverse nation from various backgrounds, including religions. This is a gift, if managed properly, and will produce an extraordinary and strong integration, but on the other hand, there will be disintegration if it is not effectively managed. One of the biggest threats to disintegration is the mindset and behavior that reflects intolerance in the context of religious life. One of the ways to eliminate this issue is to promote inter-religious dialogue. Through a literature review, this article focuses on inter-religious dialogue from the perspective of the French Neo-Psycho-analytic school, Jacques Lacan. This is an auto-anamnesis effort to understand human behavior, especially in religion. Through it, we can see that the pursuit of equilibrium through dialogue across religions is an existential condition that will affect human behavior. The equilibrium is not projected by some common ground, but to accept, acknowledge and respect the fact of differences. The integration will be realized with an attitude of acceptance and respect for differences.

Abstract

This study aimed to investigate perceptions of mental health and poverty as well as their relationship in remote areas of Indonesia. The investigation was conducted due to the lack of mental health services in the area and a limited understanding of the psychological factors associated with perceptions of mental health and poverty in developing countries. A qualitative phenomenological approach was used, involving 22 participants (10 males, 12 females) with various educational and occupational backgrounds. The results showed several categories, namely the concept and causes of poverty, perceptions of physical and mental health, as well as the relationship between poverty and mental health. Among these results, the most important was the public's perception of poverty and mental health as socio-cultural phenomena interrelated due to socio-cultural or mental imbalances. Furthermore, indigenous psychology was used to investigate the behavior of people living in their local communities. This was conducted to determine the use of knowledge to interact with policies and practices to reduce poverty and improve mental health status.

Abstract

The people of Palu experienced natural disasters on September 28, 2018. The event caused suffering in the form of trauma. Society attributes the struggle to the existence of God, as in theodicy. Nevertheless, suffering in human life has spiritual meanings. The purpose of this research was to analyze the relevance of theodicy and spiritual well-being for survivors of natural disaster trauma in Palu. This research used a qualitative method with a phenomenological type. Researchers collected data using interview techniques with five participants who were Palu residents who had experienced natural disasters on 28 September 2018, then analyzed the data through an interpretative phenomenological analysis. Researchers found three categories as themes: natural disasters events, relationships with God, and relationships with others. Researchers showed that all participants realized that natural disasters are devastating phenomena and, in fact, cause trauma. Despite the suffering, they recognized God's goodness, which restores and manifests in empathy and solidarity. Relationships with the divine and others influenced their spiritual well-being.

Abstract

Even though culture has been recognized and discussed by many scholars over decades in mainstream psychology, this aspect was treated only in terms of superficial manifestations and as a picture that represents different stages of social evolution or development. Indigenous psychology is an effort to rehash and refresh the importance of cultural aspects and their diversities in psychology and emplaces it as a vital way to understanding people from their perspective, in the real world. This approach believed that human being can construct their world. Knowledge and reality are psychological and social phenomena that are constructed by a human being. In terms of knowledge, indigenous psychology wants to claim that the truth is contextual-owned, experienced, believed, and lived by a human being. Especially in mental health and poverty issues and its interconnection in Indonesia must be treated as a psychological and social phenomenon that is socially constructed by people in their setting
