<![CDATA[This research aims to find out the perceptions of English students towards online learning in listening classes. The method used in this research is a qualitative descriptive method. The participants in this research were students of the English Education Study Program class of 2023, Universitas Negeri Makassar. Eight students were selected as participants using a simple random sampling technique. The instrument used in this research was an interview analysis qualitatively and descriptively to determine the findings from the interview transcript. Overall, students had positive and negative perceptions of online learning in listening classes. The positive perceptions regarding online learning in the listening classes were expressed as follows 1) It is fun, 2) It improves listening skills 3) It is flexible 4) It involves the use of practical applications, e.g., Google Meet, and 5) It is applied using effective strategies. Meanwhile, the students’ negative perceptions of online learning in the listening classes were expressed as follows 1) it is technical constraints, and 2) it is non-technical constraints. Even though the students' perceptions varied, based on the data obtained, positive perceptions are more dominant than negative perceptions. Therefore, it can be concluded that students had a positive perception regarding online learning in listening classes.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to investigate the effects of teaching recount text using the GIST (Generating Interaction between Schemata and Text) technique. Meanwhile, the purpose of this study is to determine whether or not students' comprehension of recount texts has increased. This study was conducted during the second semester of SMPN 4 Sungguminasa's ninth grade. With a pretest and posttest for a single group, the researcher employed a pre-experimental design. The sample consisted of 34 pupils from class 9K, whereas the population consisted of all ninth-grade students. Using SPSS 26, the researcher analyzed the data. As a consequence, the posttest's mean score of 49.26 exceeds the pretest's mean score of 77.21. Additionally, the probability value (sig.2-tailed: 0.000) is lower, according to the paired sample t-test. Also, the paired sample t-test shows that the probability value (sig.2-tailed: 0.000) is lower than (< 0.05). It means, there were significant differences in the average in using GIST strategy in teaching recount text. In conclusion, the alternative hypothesis (H1) in this study is accepted, and the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected. In addition, GIST strategy increases students’ comprehension of recount text.]]>

<![CDATA[This research intends to determine the relationship between reading habits and the spelling ability of students. The research population for this research was eighth-grade students at SMPN 49 Makassar University. The researcher applied a random cluster sampling technique and chose randomly class VIII3 which consist of 32 students. The correlation design was used in the research. Data were collected using two instruments: a questionnaire to obtain the reading habits of the students was the first instrument. The second instrument was a test to obtain students’ spelling ability. The research findings showed that the average student's reading habit was in the low category. The same result for spelling ability, the students are in the low category. This can be observed from the average questionnaire result of 51 and the average test result of 38.59. In addition, the Pearson product-moment correlation result was 0.783. This denotes that the degree of the relationship coefficient () exceeded the degree shown in the R table. In this particular circumstance, , because the r value in the r table is positive, implying that the relation between the two variables is positive. In sum, the better the students' reading habits, the better the students' spelling ability. Besides, there is a two-tailed Sig. of 0.000 < 0.05, which implies that spelling ability and reading habit are significantly correlated. This implies that H0 is dismissed and H1 is acceptable. Therefore, the reading habit and spelling ability in SMPN 49 Makassar are significantly correlated.]]>

<![CDATA[This research aims to determine students' perceptions of social competence in English teachers. This research is qualitative research that uses a descriptive qualitative method. The instrument used in this research is the interview. Interviews were conducted with six students who were selected using a purposive sampling technique. The results showed that English teachers who teach at SMP Negeri 1 Makale Utara, especially those who teach in grade eight, have fulfilled five indicators of social competence, namely: being inclusive and acting objectively, non-discriminatory, and communicative with fellow teachers, education personnel, parents/guardians, and the community.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to determine the difficulties of introverted students in speaking activities using English. The method used is qualitative with a class observation research design with 6 samples from class VIII, using a purposive sampling technique. Researchers used observation, interview, and documentation methods as research instruments to obtain data. The results of the data analysis show some of the difficulties that introverted students feel in speaking activities in the classroom and the strategies they use to overcome their difficulties in speaking activities including dialogue, presentation, and discussion groups. The proof is based on the results of the interview transcripts from the sample and is reinforced by some previous literature. It is concluded that introverted students at SMP Negeri 2 Sungguminasa experience difficulties in every English-speaking activity in the classroom but they also have their strategies to reduce the difficulties felt.]]>

<![CDATA[This research seeks to recognize the causality between students' self-efficacy and their learning outcomes in English language learning. The method used was quantitative with a sample of 32 students of class VIII'4 which was obtained through a random sampling method. In obtaining the data, the researchers used questionnaires and documentation as research instruments. The findings from the data analysis indicated that the connection between students' self-efficacy and their learning outcomes had a very strong relationship. It was proven by the F value of self-efficacy and students’ learning outcomes which was 0.001 < 0.05. Therefore, H0 is dismissed, and Ha is affirmed. It was concluded that the association between students’ self-efficacy and students’ learning outcomes in English language learning in class VIII'4 SMP Negeri 2 Sungguminasa is a very strong relationship.]]>

<![CDATA[The objective of this study was to ascertain whether or not the task-based learning method can enhance students' inferential reading comprehension. A pre-experimental design with pre-test and post-test was employed in this study, which was conducted with all students in the 11th grade as the population. The sample consisted of 36 students from class 11.2 at UPT SMAN 5 Pinrang. The data were collected via an inferential reading comprehension test and subsequently analyzed using a paired sample t-test. The findings indicated a statistically significant enhancement in students' inferential reading comprehension, as evidenced by a probability value of less than 0.001, which was below the 0.05 significance threshold. The t-value (14.244) exceeded the t-table value (2.03), thereby confirming the acceptance of the alternative hypothesis (Ha). Additionally, the N-Gain value was classified as high (>0.70), providing further evidence of the effectiveness of this method. These findings demonstrate that the task-based learning method is an effective method to significantly enhance students' inferential reading comprehension. Consequently, this method can be a viable alternative teaching strategy for enhancing reading comprehension within similar educational contexts.]]>

<![CDATA[The purpose of this research is to find out whether the use of TikTok Application as online English learning medium can improve students’ vocabulary mastery and to find out students’ perception of the use of TikTok Application in learning English vocabulary. This research was conducted at SMA Katolik Messawa. The population in this study were students of class X IPA SMA Katolik Messawa. The researcher used a purposive random sampling technique for class X IPA as the sample in this study. This study used a pre-experimental one group pretest posttest design method. The instrument used by the researcher is a vocabulary test and a questionnaire. Then several treatments were carried out and at the end of the meeting a vocabulary test was again carried out. Based on the results of the average calculation, it is known that the use of TikTok Application can improve students' vocabulary mastery, where the mean posttest is greater than the mean of pretest. Then the researcher concluded that the use of TikTok Application can improve students' vocabulary mastery. Students perceived the use of TikTok Application in learning English vocabulary quite positively. Their perceptions to the twelve statement items were dominated by positive responses, they surely have positive thoughts about the use of TikTok Application to improve their vocabulary mastery.]]>

<![CDATA[The study aimed to evaluate how effectively Google Classroom can improve students' listening skills at SMPN 21 Makassar. A quantitative research method using a pre-experimental design was implemented. The participants were eighth-grade students from SMPN 21 Makassar, with one class chosen from a total of six through cluster random sampling. Specifically, class 8E was selected, which had 20 students. To gather data, listening tests were conducted both before and after the intervention. The collected data were analyzed using a t-test with a significance level set at 0.05. The research revealed a p-value (sig. 2-tailed) of 0.000, which is lower than the significance threshold of 0.05. As a consequence, the null hypothesis (H0) is rejected and the alternative hypothesis (H1) is accepted. Moreover, the effectiveness of Google Classroom, assessed through the N-Gain score, indicated a moderate level of effectiveness. Therefore, the researcher concludes that Google Classroom is relatively effective in enhancing students' listening skills at SMPN 21 Makassar.]]>

<![CDATA[This study aims to examine the improvement of learning motivation in students after the application of the mind mapping technique. The researcher applied a pre-experimental method, and to achieve the research objectives, data collection was conducted through a pre-test, post-test, and questionnaire. The population in this study was 11th-grade students at SMPN 1 Tellu Limpoe, and the sample consisted of 30 students determined using the cluster random sampling technique. The research results show that: ) The impact of the mind mapping technique on learning motivation after the same test, namely the T-test, shows a probability value of 0.001 significantly lower than the significance level (0.05), and after being analyzed with N-Gain, shows that the increase in student learning motivation is classified as an increase with a percentage increase of 27.71%. It can be concluded that the use of the mind mapping technique has a significant impact on learning motivation in students.]]>
