Abstract

Internship programs are mandatory in Indonesian vocational schools, including SMK Negeri 1 Kendal, to enhance students’ skills and work readiness. This study investigates the correlation between internship experience and learning outcomes in custom-made fashion production among 106 twelfth-grade fashion students. Using a quantitative correlational approach, data were collected through internship experience questionnaires and students’ competency exam scores. Statistical analysis via IBM SPSS 19 included validity and reliability tests, descriptive statistics, normality and linearity tests, and hypothesis testing using correlation and determination coefficients. Results showed a very weak and negative correlation (r = -0.126, p = 0.199), with only 1.6% of the variance in learning outcomes explained by internship experience. Although internships provided broad exposure to garment industry divisions, they did not significantly impact students’ performance in custom fashion making. This finding highlights a potential misalignment between internship content and curriculum goals, suggesting the need for program redesign and further in-depth research.

Abstract

This study investigates the relationship between VARK learning styles (Visual, Auditory, Read/Write, and Kinesthetic) and student learning outcomes in the Instructional Media course within the Home Economics Education Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang. Understanding diverse learning styles is essential to supporting effective instruction; however, mismatches between students’ preferences and teaching approaches are frequently observed. A quantitative survey design was employed, in which students’ learning styles were identified using the VARK questionnaire, while final course grades were obtained through academic records. Data were analyzed using the Spearman rank correlation and the Kruskal-Wallis test. The results indicated no statistically significant correlation between learning styles and learning outcomes (ρ = 0.018; p = 0.916), and no significant differences in outcomes across learning style groups (H = 1.585; p = 0.663). Despite the lack of statistical significance, descriptive analysis revealed that students with multimodal learning preferences tended to achieve higher average scores than their unimodal peers. These findings suggest the pedagogical value of accommodating diverse learning styles, particularly through flexible and multimodal instructional strategies.

Abstract

The use of synthetic dyes in the textile industry produces wastewater with high potential for environmental pollution. Utilizing natural dyes from Ketapang leaves offers an alternative for reducing such wastewater and can be considered a sustainable dyeing method. According to data from the UNNES Conservation Development Agency, there are 5,170 Ketapang trees around the UNNES campus, indicating a plentiful supply for natural dye production. The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of Ketapang leaf dye in enhancing the aesthetic quality of Shibori products, specifically in terms of motif aesthetics and color direction. The research employs a quantitative approach with an experimental design, using a single variable. Data analysis was conducted through descriptive percentage statistics. The Shibori with the highest aesthetic value was produced using lime as a fixative, achieving a 95% rating (highly quality). Color direction analysis showed that each fixative produced different color outcomes: lime resulted in a Dijon color, alum produced a Corn color, and ferrous sulfate yielded a Seaweed color. Based on these findings, it can be concluded that natural dyes from Ketapang leaves contribute significantly to both motif aesthetics and color direction in Shibori dyeing, offering a sustainable and environmentally friendly alternative for textile production.

Abstract

The development of digital technology has driven innovations in the fashion industry, including the integration of Quick Response (QR) codes into clothing products as an interactive information medium. This study aims to determine the feasibility of the design and products of the “Scanara" Ready-to-Wear Fashion, as well as the feasibility of QR Code media with embroidery techniques applied as a means of delivering digital information. The research method employs a descriptive percentage approach, utilizing an assessment instrument compiled based on theoretical studies related to fashion design, construction, aesthetics, comfort, and interactive media. The assessment was conducted by six experts, comprising three fashion experts and three media experts. Data were analyzed using quantitative descriptive techniques by calculating the feasibility percentage based on the obtained score and the maximum score. The results showed that the “Scanara” ready-to-wear fashion obtained a feasibility percentage of 82.5% and was categorized as "Very Feasible". Meanwhile, the QR Code media achieved a feasibility score of 96.25% with the category of "Very Feasible". These Findings indicate that the integration of QR Code technology with embroidery techniques not only improves the informative and aesthetic functions of fashion but also supports the development of modern, interactive, and adaptive fashion products. Thus, the developed fashion and digital media are declared very feasible for use, production, and further development.
