Abstract

This community service program aimed to enhance the skills of PKK women in RT 05 RW 05 Sekaran in turning textile waste, especially patchwork, into valuable handicraft products. Using the Community Development Practice method, the program emphasized community empowerment through educational workshops, hands-on training, mentoring, and participatory evaluation. The chosen product—patchwork folding fans—was selected for its simplicity and market potential. As a result, participants showed a notable increase in both knowledge and skills. They were actively involved in all stages of product creation, reflecting a growing interest in entrepreneurship and environmental responsibility. The program also fostered greater awareness of the importance of waste management as a shared duty. Overall, this initiative demonstrated how local, skill-based training can contribute to sustainable economic and environmental outcomes. Even on a small scale, such efforts in community empowerment can serve as practical steps in addressing larger social and ecological challenges.

Abstract

In 2023, UNNES won the Most Sustainable University award at the UI Greenmetric World University ranking event. This is the 5th national ranking out of a total of 145 universities and the 37th world ranking out of a total of 1,183 universities in the world. This achievement is proof of UNNES' consistency as a conservation-oriented university. In line with this commitment, each lecturer in the study program develops various research related to work based on sustainability. One of the things that is being created is using natural dyes in textile products. Natural dyes from Mahogany bark (Swietenia mahagoni) have the potential to be a source of natural dyes. Data from the UNNES Conservation Development Agency notes that there are 12,320 Mahogany trees around the UNNES campus. This means that the availability of Mahogany trees is very large if used as a natural dye. With this potential, a problem identification was carried out, then it was found that many housewives needed skills to support family income. This was found in the Kalisegoro Village community group. Thus, training and education will be carried out by providing skills in the form of ecoprint training for the PKK mothers' group in Kalisegoro Village. It is hoped that women can become the pillars of poverty alleviation, especially for their families. The output targets in this program are national journal publications, information to print or online media, and video profiles of activity implementation.

Abstract

The kutu baru kebaya is a cultural heritage of Indonesia that requires innovation to remain relevant in modern times without diminishing its traditional values. This study aims to analyze the quality of modern kutu baru kebaya products inspired by the Mawar Putri, focusing on aesthetics, ornamentation, design, materials, and finishing aspects. A quantitative descriptive approach was employed, involving four fashion experts as validators to assess the quality of two kebaya prototypes. Data were collected through structured observation using a Likert scale (1–4) assessment sheet. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and percentage calculations to determine product feasibility categories. The findings reveal that Kebaya A achieved an average score of 82.71%, classified as “highly feasible,” while Kebaya B attained 86.67%, also categorized as “highly feasible.” Kebaya B outperformed in aesthetic (87.5%), ornamentation (87.5%), and design (81.25%) criteria, whereas both products demonstrated equivalent performance in material (91.67%) and finishing (85.42%) aspects. It can be concluded that both modern kutu baru kebaya designs inspired by the Bunga Mawar Putri rose meet high-quality standards, with Kebaya B exhibiting superior overall performance. Nevertheless, further refinement is recommended, particularly in the application of sequins and embroidery to enhance visual and structural detailing. These findings contribute to preserving cultural identity through contemporary fashion design while highlighting the importance of quality evaluation in traditional clothing innovation.

Abstract

This study aims to evaluate the implementation of differentiated assessment in the garment preparation phase of the Fashion Design and Production subject in vocational high schools (SMK). Differentiated assessment is a strategic approach that aligns evaluation with students’ readiness, interests, and learning profiles, and is strongly promoted by the Merdeka Curriculum. Using a mixed-methods approach and the CIPP (Context, Input, Process, Product) evaluation model, this study involved 10 teachers, 160 students, 3 school principals, and 2 program heads from selected SMKs in Semarang. Data were collected through document analysis, classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews, and focus group discussions. The results show that differentiated assessment is only partially implemented. Most teachers adapt task difficulty but rarely differentiate based on students’ learning styles or interests. Major obstacles include limited professional development, lack of contextualized assessment tools, and time constraints. Despite these challenges, the study finds that students exhibit higher engagement and improved performance when provided with flexible and personalized assessment options. The findings emphasize the need for structured teacher training, development of project-based differentiated assessment tools, and school policies that support inclusive evaluation practices. This study contributes to both local and global discourse by highlighting the practical implications of differentiated assessment in vocational education and strengthening its relevance within the context of Indonesia’s education reform.

Abstract

Learning motivation refers to the internal drive that initiates and sustains students' engagement in the learning process. This study aims to explore the level of learning motivation among 11th-grade students in the Creative Products and Entrepreneurship course (locally known as PKK) at SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Semarang, Indonesia. A descriptive quantitative approach was employed, using a questionnaire based on Keller’s ARCS motivation model (Attention, Relevance, Confidence, Satisfaction). The sample consisted of 49 students selected through random sampling. Descriptive analysis revealed that students' overall learning motivation was in the high category, with an average score of 80.1 out of 100. Among the four ARCS components, Satisfaction received the highest mean score, while Attention was the lowest. These findings suggest that while students generally feel positive and satisfied with the learning experience, strategies to better capture and maintain their attention should be strengthened. The study highlights the importance of motivational design in vocational education to enhance student engagement and learning outcomes.

Abstract

This study examines the relationship between authoritarian parenting and child development among families in Semarang, Indonesia. Using a cross-sectional quantitative approach, 60 parents of children aged 3–7 years were surveyed through a Likert-scale questionnaire grounded in Baumrind’s parenting style theory and Erikson’s psychosocial development stages. Data were analyzed using Pearson correlation. Findings revealed a very weak negative correlation (r = -0.007, p > 0.05), suggesting no statistically significant relationship between authoritarian parenting and child development in the studied context. These results highlight that child development is more strongly influenced by external factors such as extended family support, socioeconomic conditions, and cultural values. This study contributes to the global debate on parenting by emphasizing the contextual and cultural variability of authoritarian parenting effects. Practical implications suggest that interventions to enhance child development should adopt a holistic and ecosystem-based approach, involving parents, schools, and communities rather than focusing solely on parenting style.

Abstract

Higher education plays an important role as a foundation in developing quality human resources who are able to compete in the global era. However, in many rural areas, access to and understanding of the importance of higher education is still limited due to factors such as low parental education, high costs, and a lack of information about scholarships. The community service program implemented by UNNES GIAT 12 in Kampir Hamlet, Plososari Village, Kendal, aims to address these challenges by providing comprehensive scholarship information to local youth. The objectives of this program include increasing knowledge about various types of scholarships, particularly distinguishing between KIP Kuliah and merit-based scholarships, as well as guiding participants on how to access scholarship information. Using educational and interactive methods, this intervention measured the knowledge of 10 participants through pre-tests and post-tests. The results showed a significant increase in understanding, with the average pre-test score of 1.32 increasing to 3.6 on the post-test. This remarkable increase confirms the effectiveness of targeted scholarship outreach in bridging the information gap and motivating rural youth to pursue higher education. Thus, this program contributes to increased educational participation and human capital development in underserved areas.

Abstract

Abstract Cyberbullying remains a prevalent issue among adolescents, representing a form of intentional and repeated intimidation through digital technology aimed at harming individuals or groups. This study aims to explore the factors contributing to adolescent cyberbullying behavior and to analyze the role of family communication patterns in shaping such behavior, particularly on the WhatsApp platform. Employing a qualitative descriptive approach with a case study design, the research was conducted at SMKN 2 Purwodadi from May to July 2024. The informants consisted of three students from Class XI of the Building Design and Information Modeling (DPIB) 2 program who had been involved in cyberbullying cases, along with one parent (father or mother) of each student, selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation, and analyzed using the interactive model of Miles and Huberman, which includes data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. Data validity was ensured through technique triangulation and member checking. The findings reveal that adolescent cyberbullying behavior is influenced by several factors, including imitation tendencies, high mobile-phone usage intensity, lack of parental supervision, inappropriate parenting styles, peer influence, and limited understanding of the impact of cyberbullying. Furthermore, three family communication patterns (authoritarian, permissive, and authoritative) were identified, each exerting a different influence on adolescents’ digital behavior. Democratic communication patterns tend to foster positive and empathetic behavior, while authoritarian and permissive patterns may increase the risk of adolescents engaging in cyberbullying. The study concludes that open and positive communication between parents and children plays a crucial role in preventing and addressing cyberbullying effectively.

Abstract

The study aims to identify and analyze the specific English language learning needs of students in higher education in Home Economics based on the perceptions of graduate users. Utilizing a quantitative approach, the research employs a questionnaire as the primary data collection tool. This questionnaire was administered to graduate users of the Home Economics Program at the Faculty of Engineering, Universitas Negeri Semarang, with respondents including twelve individuals from diverse sectors such as schools, government offices, private companies, and home industries or SMEs. The findings reveal that the need for English proficiency varies by sector. In educational settings, English is vital for understanding instructional materials and meeting global educational standards. For government offices, proficiency in English is essential for international collaboration, effective communication in meetings, and maintaining global partnerships. Private companies, particularly multinational corporations, rely on English for recruitment, daily operations, and interactions with international clients, even though incentives for language proficiency are often lacking. Meanwhile, in-home industries, although English is not yet a strict requirement, it is becoming increasingly important for online marketing, responding to international inquiries, and engaging with promotional media. As globalization and technological advancements continue to reshape these sectors, the study underscores the growing necessity of English proficiency. The findings highlight the critical role that English plays in enhancing professional effectiveness and competitiveness, making this research an essential contribution to curriculum development and workforce readiness in an increasingly interconnected world.
