Abstract

Abstract             Transportation sector development is one of the sub sectors that is important to support economic development. Poor transportation sector will develop human activities. One type of transportation is a train that has a special line and avoid congestion, Sometimes the train also cut off the highway, so the railway door is made to function to secure the train journey and guarded the door keepers. The problem in the concern at PT KAI is human error, One example of human error is a door keepers undisciplined in closing the railway door gates. One of the danger areas is Jember Regency which is located in DAOP IX, it is because Jember Regency had the most railway door in DAOP IX and has many crossings in the settlement area. The results of observations before the study found some workers who show symptoms of work stress. Jember regency had 12 official railway door and there are 47 door keepers who are all male. The door keepers are mostly 25-40 years old, have a working period of 1-5 years, have married marriage status, and have children <3, have wage / salary Rp.1.500.000-Rp.3.500.000, almost half of the respondents experienced fatigue and severe stress. The results of the study found there is a relationship between age, employment, marital status, wages / salary with work stress, but fatigue and wages/salary are not related to work stress.Keywords: Work Stress, Human error, Door keepers.

Abstract

Abstract Recruitment of labor in tobacco industry at Jember is high and there are still many utilize manual labor. Manual labor can increase complaints from workers.There are several MSDs listed in ILO, one of which is Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS). CTS can cause pain and limit the function of the wrist and hand. Sorting work is one of the jobs with a high prevalence of CTS as it requires precision and accuracy. The purpose of this research was to analyze CTS complains on leaf sorting workers in Restu I warehouse of Agribusiness Tarutama Nusantara Cooperative.This was a descriptive research with quantitative approach. The results indicates that majority of leaf tobacco leaf workers (81,7%) in Restu I Warehouse experienced CTS complaint. Respondents with age more than 40 years are 3,609 times at risk of CTS complaint. Respondents with CTS complaint were more common at age more than 40 years, who had more nutritional status categories of overweight, who had a working period of more than 4 years as tobacco leaf sorting worker at Restu I Warehouse, who had medium risk work posture, and respondents who repeat movements of the wrist more than 30 times per minute. Keywords: MSDs, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS), Tobacco Leaf Sorting

Abstract

Smoking behavior has become an important issue of public health around the world since the last decade. Indonesia is one of the developing countries which has the highest level of cigarette consumption and production. A large number of studies have shown that smoking behavior can cause adverse effects for health, but conversely, the number of smokers increased every year. Nowadays, the trend of smoking behavior has entered the category of younger age between 13 – 15 years old. The purpose of this research is to obtain a description about smoking behavior on people and about the implementation of “no-smoking area” policy in Ajung village, Kalisat district of Jember. This study uses a descriptive research design with observation method. This study was conducted in May 2014. The sample in this study is 56 peoples and 4 elementary schools. Variables researched in this study are the knowledge of smoking adverse effect, smoking activity, the age of first smoking experience, the number of cigarette smoked per day, and “no-smoking area” policy. The results of the study have shown that 60,87% respondents have knowledge about smoking adverse effect toward respiratory disorders,  respondents who have smoked daily activity are about 19.64%, the majority of respondents start smoking at age of 15-19 years, the average of respondents smoking as many as 13 stems in a day, and only 2 elementary schools that disposed to implement the “no-smoking area” policy in their institution. Based on these results, it is recommended the more intensive counseling about the hazards and the adverse effects of smoking behavior from various related institutions (health services, social services). Local governments is suggested to make regulations which aims to implement policy about “no-smoking area” in all institutions.
