Abstract

Purpose – Moral degradation continues to persist in Indonesia, with various cases of violence and conflicts occurring from early childhood to adolescence. The low foundation of character education is a major issue, especially in early childhood education. This research aims to analyze Bangkalan fairy tales in preserving Madura's local wisdom. Design/methods/approach – The research method employed is qualitative research, utilizing data collection through observation, interviews, and documentation. The research subjects consist of cultural figures in Bangkalan and the folktales from Bangkalan. Data analysis in this research employs thematic analysis with validity testing through source triangulation and technique triangulation. Findings – The findings of this research reveal that the local wisdom embedded in Bangkalan's folktales emphasizes the early cultivation of character traits. These character traits include respect for elders, adherence to religious practices, honesty, and empathy towards others. The research findings provide an alternative approach to instilling local wisdom in early childhood as a foundational framework for children in coping with technological advancements. Research implications/limitations – This research is limited to the analysis of fairy tales intended for early childhood as a means to preserve local wisdom from an early age. Additionally, the research is confined to the cultural context of Bangkalan and may not be applicable to other regions. Future studies could explore similar analyses in different cultural contexts to provide a broader understanding of how fairy tales can preserve local wisdom across various societies. Practical implications – This research provides implications in the form of practices of struggle and nurturing through fairy tales in Bangkalan. It demonstrates how these tales can be used as practical tools for teaching young children about resilience and care, instilling important cultural values from an early age. Originality/value – This research provides positive value for young children by preserving the values of struggle found in Bangkalan fairy tales, contributing to the cultural education and heritage of Madura. By integrating these tales into early childhood education, it helps foster a sense of cultural identity and continuity among the younger generation. Paper type Case study

Abstract

Indonesia is an agrarian country and has potential in agriculture that is not in line with the potential of supporting human resources. Therefore, it is necessary to introduce agriculture from an early age. Early childhood learning programs with an agricultural perspective can equip children with knowledge about the importance of agriculture as well as basic skills such as caring for, watering and planting plants. This research aims to understand the importance of agriculture-based learning in early childhood education environments. This research method uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Review and Meta-Analyze Extensions for scoping reviews using 3 databases namely science direct, google Scholar, and sage journals. The literature reviewed from the scoping review obtained 8 articles that fulfilled the use of qualitative and quantitative or mixed methods. The types of journals produced are mostly children's education journals, environmental education journals for children, and journals about nutrition for children. Many research subjects also center on children's intelligence, scientific and nature-friendly attitudes, cognitive, language, and social skills that children can acquire from gardening or agriculture-based learning. From data collection and preparation of literature material, benefits from agricultural-based learning programs are obtained. This benefit is the basis for the importance of agriculture-based learning in kindergarten children. The benefits of agricultural learning-based activities in Early Childhood Education (ECE) include increasing early childhood knowledge and love for agricultural activities, increasing children's naturalistic intelligence, promoting healthy food in early childhood, environmentally friendly attitudes, and cognitive intelligence.

Abstract

The challenges faced by early-age children in recognizing numbers and geometric shapes in Madura have been a significant concern. This study aims to investigate the NakKanak Penter media in stimulating the recognition of numbers and geometric shapes among 4-5-year-old children. This research falls under the category of Research and Development. The data in this research and development study comprise both qualitative and quantitative data. Qualitative data were gathered through observations, interviews, and documentation. Quantitative data were obtained from research respondents, including subject matter experts, media specialists, cultural experts, and users of educational media. The analysis of this study primarily employs quantitative data analysis. The results of this research indicate that the NakKanak Penter media, which is based on corn as the primary material, aligns with the characteristics of the research location, where corn cultivation is prevalent. This media is deemed suitable for use in introducing numbers and geometric shapes to children. This study contributes by providing the NakKanak Penter media as an alternative medium for early-age children's education in numbers and geometric shapes.

Abstract

The rapid evolution of technology continues to drive the demand for highly skilled human resources capable of competing in an increasingly dynamic global environment. Preparing superior human resources from an early age is crucial to meeting these demands. This study investigates how the STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics) approach is implemented and its impact on early childhood education at RA Fun Islamic School in Indonesia. Employing a qualitative case study methodology, data were gathered through observations, semi-structured interviews with educators, parents, and administrators, as well as an analysis of relevant documentation. The findings highlight STEAM's focus on nurturing creative freedom, critical thinking, and collaboration among young learners. Children participating in activities such as building structures and integrating arts with mathematics showed notable outcomes, including independent problem-solving and the development of unique solutions. The study also emphasizes the role of introducing simple engineering concepts and integrating technology to create dynamic and engaging learning environments. Despite these benefits, challenges like limited resources and the need for teacher training were identified. This research underscores the transformative potential of STEAM in promoting cognitive and social growth in early childhood education. Future studies should explore how this approach can be scaled to diverse educational settings and evaluate its long-term effects.
