Abstract

Critical thinking skills are recognized as a core competency in the 21st century that must be fostered from elementary school, particularly through Social Studies (IPS). Social studies learning offers a contextual nature that enables students to analyze social phenomena, understand cause-and-effect relationships, and make rational decisions. However, various studies indicate that elementary school students' critical thinking competencies in social studies learning have not yet developed optimally. This study aims to examine students' critical thinking competencies in social studies learning in elementary schools by referring to previous literature. The method used was a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) following the PRISMA protocol. Reference searches were conducted through the Google Scholar and Publish or Perish platforms with publications spanning 2020-2025. Based on inclusion and exclusion criteria, ten articles were obtained and processed through thematic analysis. The study findings revealed that elementary school students' critical thinking competencies were generally in the moderate category, with analysis, evaluation, and conclusion-drawing indicators being the weakest aspects. These competencies are influenced by several factors originating from within the students and the educational environment. Furthermore, implementing learning approaches that make students the primary actors in the learning process, such as problem-based learning and discussion, has proven effective in improving critical thinking skills in social studies. This study contributes to a comprehensive mapping of students' critical thinking skills and recommends social studies learning strategies that can be utilized by elementary school teachers.

Abstract

The overarching goal of this study is to investigate how the Discovery Learning paradigm affects the development of critical thinking abilities among primary school pupils as they learn social studies. Ten scholarly journal papers from both nasional and internasional sources that were published over the last five years and included in credible databases were analyzed in this research, which used a Systematic Literature Review (SLR) methodology. Students' critical thinking skills, particularly in areas like information analysis, idea evaluation, and conclusion formulation, are consistently and significantly improved by Discovery Learning, according to the findings. Stages of learning that promote student engagement, meaningful learning, and direct involvement in knowledge production bolster this model's efficacy. Further enhancement of Social Studies education is achieved via the integration of digital media with tangible pedagogical tools and Discovery Learning. Accordingly, to meet the needs of education in the twenty-first century, Discovery Learning is highly suggested as a method of teaching that helps primary school pupils develop their critical thinking abilities. Abstract

Social Studies (IPS) learning in elementary schools plays a crucial role in shaping students' social understanding, cultural awareness, and character from an early age. One relevant approach to enhancing the meaningfulness of IPS learning is the utilization of local wisdom as a contextual learning resource that is close to students' lives. This study aims to systematically examine the utilization of local wisdom in IPS learning in elementary schools and its contribution to the development of students' cognitive, affective, social, and skills. This study employs a descriptive qualitative approach, utilizing the Systematic Literature Review (SLR) method to analyze relevant research articles. Data analysis was conducted narratively and thematically to identify the forms of local wisdom utilized, how they are integrated into IPS learning, the learning approaches used, and the resulting impacts. The results of the study indicate that the utilization of local wisdom in IPS learning consistently has a positive impact on students' understanding of IPS concepts, character building, cultural awareness, social skills, and thinking abilities. However, most research remains contextual and limited to specific regions, so further studies are needed with a more comprehensive scope and methodological approach.

Abstract

Creative thinking is one of the 21st-century skills that is important to develop in elementary school students. However, various findings indicate that the level of student creativity in Indonesia is still relatively low, so a learning model that can encourage active involvement and the development of creative ideas is needed. This study aims to examine the effectiveness of the Project Based Learning (PjBL) learning model on students' creative thinking skills through a literature review. The research method used is a literature review with a descriptive qualitative approach. Data were obtained from national and international scientific articles relevant to the range of PjBL topics and students' creative thinking skills, published in recent times. The results show that the implementation of the Project Based Learning model consistently has a positive and significant effect on improving students' creative thinking skills, as indicated by an increase in posttest scores, a significant difference with the control class, and indicators of creativity development such as fluency, flexibility, originality, and elaboration. In addition, PjBL also equips students with collaboration, problem-solving, and responsibility skills that are relevant to real life. Thus, the Project Based Learning model is recommended as an innovative learning alternative to improve elementary school students' creative thinking skills.
