Abstract

Marine Tourism Beach in Jawai Laut Village, Sambas Regency, has great potential as a community-based tourism destination. However, the increasing number of tourist visits has caused environmental problems, especially in terms of waste management, especially plastic waste. Lack of facilities, low public and tourist awareness, and lack of external support are the main obstacles in creating a clean and sustainable tourism environment. This community service activity aims to evaluate the condition of waste management, identify the obstacles faced, and formulate strategic solutions. The methods used include field observation, interviews with the community and Pokdarwis, and visual documentation. The results show that despite community efforts to maintain cleanliness, the waste management system has not been running optimally. Therefore, the solutions offered include the application of the 3R principle (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), increasing environmental education, providing adequate cleaning facilities, utilizing digital media and influencers for campaigns, and implementing a waste sorting system from the source. It is hoped that this strategy can encourage the creation of clean, healthy, and sustainable tourist destinations.

Abstract

Plastic waste is a serious environmental problem that requires immediate handling, especially in educational environments. SD Negeri 22 Seladu faces the challenge of managing plastic waste, especially used bottles, which have not been utilized optimally. This condition shows the need to increase students' awareness of plastic waste management and the provision of environmentally based learning media. This service activity aims to minimize plastic waste, increase students' understanding of waste management, and create learning media in the form of aquariums from used bottles. The method used includes preparation stages, delivery of materials, and practice of making aquariums from used plastic bottles. Activities are carried out with a participatory approach to actively involve students. The results of the activity show that students are able to understand the concept of recycling, increase creativity, and have a higher awareness of the importance of protecting the environment. This program provides significant educational and environmental benefits. By using used bottles as a learning medium, this activity can be used as a model for environmental education in other schools to support sustainable plastic waste management.

Abstract

Triploidization is a polyploidization technique used to produce fish with improved growth, while hybridization is another method to enhance genetic quality through crosses within or between species. This study evaluated the growth performance of allotriploid catfish at the seed stage. The experiment was conducted for 45 days at the Laboratory of Reproduction and Genetics of Aquatic Organisms, Bogor Agricultural University, using a completely randomized design with four treatments and three replications. The treatments consisted of allotriploid, autotriploid, hybrid diploid, and diploid fish. Ploidy analysis showed that allotriploid and autotriploid fish had up to three nucleoli per cell, while hybrid diploid and diploid fish had a maximum of two. Growth results indicated that allotriploid fish achieved the highest final weight (4.68±0.12 g) and length (2.79 ± 0.16 inches), followed by hybrid diploid, autotriploid, and diploid fish. ANOVA results confirmed significant differences in final weight and length among treatments, indicating that ploidy manipulation and hybridization had a substantial impact on growth. However, feed conversion ratio and survival rate did not differ significantly (P > 0.05). Overall, the findings indicate that allotriploid catfish seeds showed superior growth performance compared to autotriploid, hybrid diploid, and diploid fish.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Mangrove ecosystems play an important role in coastal protection, habitat provision, and carbon storage (blue carbon). This study aimed to analyze mangrove community structure and to estimate carbon stocks and CO₂ sequestration along the Sambas Besar River, Tekarang Subdistrict, Sambas Regency. The research was conducted in September 2025 using an exploratory approach with purposive sampling near a bridge construction area. Vegetation data were collected using line transects and quadrats of 10×10 m, 5×5 m, and 2×2 m according to growth stages. Community structure was assessed using density, frequency, dominance, and the Importance Value Index (IVI). Biomass was estimated using allometric equations for Sonneratia caseolaris, Nypa fruticans, and a general mangrove model. Carbon stocks were calculated using a carbon fraction of 0.47, and CO₂ sequestration was estimated based on molecular ratios. Three mangrove species were identified (S. caseolaris, N. fruticans, and Acanthus ilicifolius), with S. caseolaris as the dominant species (mean IVI 226.026 at the tree level and 300 at the sapling level). The average stand biomass was 35.355 t/ha, mean carbon stock was 14.266 t/ha, and estimated CO₂ sequestration reached 111.302 t/ha. Measured water parameters (pH ≈ 6.9; DO ≈ 5.4 mg/L; temperature ≈ 30 °C; salinity ≈ 12 ppt) supported mangrove ecosystem functions. These results confirm the contribution of mangrove stands to carbon storage and emission mitigation and emphasize the need for conservation management, periodic monitoring, and targeted rehabilitation.   Keywords: biomass, community structure, Sambas River, stand carbon.
