Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian ini dilakukan dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam menulis proposal skripsi sehingga dapat mempermudah pembimbingan oleh dosen pembimbing dan dapat mempercepat mahasiswa untuk menyelesaikan seminar proposal skripsi. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan pelatihan melalui zoom cloud meeting, membagikan handout, dan melakukan latihan-latihan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris sebanyak 65 orang dengan narasumber sebanyak tiga orang yang merupakan Tim PKM serta dibantu oleh 2 mahasiswa sebagai panitia. Kegiatan pelatihan dilaksanakan dalam waktu 5 hari dengan memberikan materi yang berhubungan dengan penulisan proposal skripsi dari sudut pandang academic writing. Hasil dari pelatihan yang bersumber dari data pendaftaran seminar proposal di Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris memperlihatkan bahwa ada tren peningkatan jumlah mahasiswa yang mendaftar seminar proposal. Selain itu, berdasarkan hasil wawancara dengan 5 dosen pembimbing bahwa mereka merasa lebih mudah membimbing dan meng-ACC proposal skripsi mahasiswa salahsatunya karena gaya penulisannya sudah bagus sesuai academic writing. Dari hasil itu, direkomendasikan untuk mengumpulkan handouts pelatihan ini menjadi sebuah buku panduan penulisan proposal dan skripsi mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris.

Abstract

Pengelolaan sampah yang baik merupakan hal yang sangat penting. Namun faktanya kesadaran masayarakat akan hal ini masih sangat rendah. Ini menyebabkan perilaku masyarakat yang terbiasa membuang sampah di ruang-ruang publik, seperti taman dan lapangan (alun-alun) kota. Salah satu sampah yang sangat umum ditemukan adalah sampah sisa makanan. Oleh karena itu, kegiatan PKM ini dilakukan dengan tujuan memberikan teladan dan membangun kesadaran masyakat Kota Langsa agar tidak membuang sampah sisa makanan di Lapangan Merdeka Kota Langsa, khususnya ke dalam parit (aliran air). Metode yang digunakan adalah Service Learning (SL) dalam bentuk kampanye dan gotong royong oleh mahasiswa dan dosen pengampu mata kuliah. Kampanye dan gotong royong dilakukan sebanyak 9 (sembilan) hari di Lapangan Merdeka Kota Langsa, Aceh. Hasil langsung dari kegiatan ini adalah Lapangan Kota Langsa yang bebas dari sampah sisa makanan, khususnya di dalam parit. Selain itu, perubahan perilaku masyarakat yang mengunjungi Lapangan Merdeka Kota Langsa juga terlihat pada hari kedelapan dimana masyarakat sudah dengan sadar mau memasukkan sampah sisa makanan mereka masing-masing ke dalam tong/kantong sampah yang disediakan tim PKM. Hasil dari kegiatan ini, terutama perubahan perilaku masyarakat ini sangat penting. Namun, masih membutuhkan kampanye yang panjang untuk membuat perubahan ini menjadi sebuah kebiasaan baik dalam masyarakat. A good waste management is crucial. However, the public awareness of the waste management is still very low. This fact has led to the behavior of people who are accustomed to throwing garbage in public spaces, such as parks and city squares. One of the most common waste found is food waste. Therefore, this PKM activity was carried out with the aim of providing examples and building awareness of the people of Langsa City not to dispose of food waste in Lapangan Merdeka (Merdeka Square) in Langsa City, especially into the ditch (water flow). The method used is Service Learning (SL) in the form of campaigns and gotong royong (collecting garbage together) by students and lecturers. The campaign and gotong royong were carried out for 9 (nine) days at Lapangan Merdeka in Langsa City, Aceh. The direct result of this activity is Lapangan Merdeka of Langsa City is free from food waste, especially in the ditch. In addition, there was also a change in the behavior of the people who visited Lapangan Merdeka of Langsa City on the eighth day where people were already consciously willing to put their respective food waste into the trash cans / bags provided by the PKM team. The results of this activity, especially changes in community behavior, are very important. However, it still takes many campaigns in the future to make this change be a good habit in the community.

Abstract

This research aimed to find out of reward and punishment used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom and to find out reward and punishment implementation by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative research. This research was analyzed kinds of reward and punishment in efl classroom and the implementation of reward and punishment. The sample of this research is one of the English Teacher at SMPN 2 Kejuruan Muda and focus on eight grades (VIII-1) Classroom. And the final result of this research is kinds of reward that used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom is verbal reward, non verbal reward, reward with come close to students, reward with touch, gifth, and reward with fun activities. Punishment that used by teacher in English Foreign Language classroom is preventive punishment and repressive punishment. Implementation of reward and punishment in English Foreign Language classroom that used by teacher is: First, teacher prepared the lesson material to gives for students. Second, teacher gives an explanation of the lesson material to students. Third, in the middle of the explanation of the material the teacher giving the practice questions in accordance with the subject matter given. Fourth, for students who are active in class, and answer correctly get certain reward according to those given by the teacher. The teacher only gives four ways in implementing reward and punishment in efl classroom, but the teacher does not implement the method five and six. Abstract

This study aimed to describe about the factors cause students’ anxiety in speaking English and the students strategies to cope the anxiety in speaking English in Class X of SMAN 5 Langsa of 2019-2020 year as participants. Any 21 students as participants that researcher take by purposive sampling. Participants in this study just 3 students in every class.The Method used in this study was descriptive qualitative. The data were through structured Interviews and classroom observations. The data were in the interview transcripts. The result of this study describe three factors that cause students’ anxiety in speaking English. The first factors is Self Perception of students that always feel English is difficulty to Learn and speak. The second factor is Class Condition of Performance make students got anxiety when they speak in front of friends and teacher. The third factor in students’ Anxiety in speaking English is Fear of Making Mistakes. The result of this study found that there are three strategies that students used to cope the anxiety in speaking English. The first strategies is Preparation, eight students did preparation always felt better before speaking English. The second is Positive thinking, there are seven participants think that positive thinking can cope the anxiety in speaking English. The last strategies is Relaxation, as many as five students take this strategies if students feel anxiety and failed speaking english. Keywords: Anxiety, Speaking

Abstract

The background of this study is by the world of education that develops, demand every induvidual who in the circle of globalization education to paticipate in learning English. So that English is an important to learn.And to master an English, must be the interesting in self. From explanation above,the researcher interesting to take the title "A STUDY OF TEENAGERS INTEREST IN LEARNING ENGLISH IN LANGSA. The purpose of this study is to find out how the teenagers interestand what are the factor of teenagers interest influence in learning Englis in Gp.Blang 18-21 years old and totaly 20 respondents. This study were used mix method. The Instrument were used questionnaire and interview. The result of this study indicate of teenagers interest in learning english in Langsa, Gp. Blang is diffused. Very low categoriezed 0 people (0%), low categorized are 5 people (25%), medium categorized 6 people (30%), high categorized are 7 people (35%) and very high categorized 2 people (10%). And then 3 of 9 teenagers keep interesting without the factors of family encouragement, facilities infrastructure, and environment encouragement. Keywords: Interesting, Learning, English

Abstract

Many teachers are not ready to fulfill all the demands contained in the Independent Curriculum (Kurikulum Merdeka). In the field, the teachers experience challenges in creating interactive hybrid learning. One of the challenges is the use of the Internet of Things in creating teaching platforms and integrating online educational games into every learning meeting. Therefore, this community service activity aims at providing an assistance on how to create an online teaching platform integrated educational games. The method used in this activity was an adopted combination method including lecturing, discussions, demonstrations, exercises/practice, working instructions, and simulations. This activity was attended by 21 junior high school teachers consisting of various fields of study. This activity succeeded in making every teacher who took part in this activity have a teaching platform on a Padlet account according to their field of study and integrated with Quizizz game. Besides, this training also changed teachers’ perception. They found the integrated platform is easier to create after receiving training. In addition, they were also motivated to apply hybrid learning to support the implementation of the independent curriculum.

Abstract

Hal yang melatarbelakangi kegiatan ini adalah minimnya motivasi dari guru di SMPN 1 Rantau Selamat dalam menulis karya tulis ilmiah, minimnya kemampuan guru di SMPN 1 Rantau Selamat dalam menulis karya tulis ilmiah, dan belum adanya instruktur yang mampu memberi pelatihan penulisan karya tulis ilmiah. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk membekali guru dengan keterampilan menulis karya ilmiah yang dibutuhkan dalam pengembangan profesional sehingga guru mampu meghasilkan karya tulis ilmiah yang dapat diterapkan oleh guru lain atau institusi pendidikan. Metode pelaksanaan kegiatan ini dengan menggunakan motode pelatihan dan pendampingan melalui kegiatan in service training (IST) dan on service training (OST). Kegiatan IST menggunakan pendekatan andragogis dengan menerapkan metode ceramah, presentasi, dan diskusi, kegiatan on service training (OST) dilaksanakan ketika guru menyusun karya tulis dalam bentuk artikel untuk dipublikasikan. Hasil monitoring dan evaluasi menunjukkan bahwa kegiatan telah berjalan dengan baik sesuai target. Para guru di SMP telah memiliki kompetensi dalam melakukan penelitian tindakan kelas (PTK), penulisan karya ilmiah, dan publikasi karya tulis ilmiah.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the effect of using Survey, Question, Read, Recite and Review (SQ3R) strategy on students’ reading comprehension skill in narrative text. This study is a pre – experimental research with one group pre – test post – test design. The population in this study were students in SMPN 8 Langsa and the sample of this study were students of class VIII consisting of 35 students, twenty male students and fifteen female students. The sample in this study was selected by using purposive sampling technique. This study used instruments in the form of reading test for pre – test and post – test. For the treatment, the SQ3R strategy was used in teaching narrative text. The data collected in this study was calculated by using SPSS version 22 with a significant value of 0.05. The result of this study revealed that the mean of pre – test was 44.29. After being given treatment, the average post – test increased significantly to 8.25 with a gain of 36.28. This means that the SQ3R strategy has a strong influence on students’ reading comprehension skill. It can be concluded that there was a significant improvement on students’ reading comprehension skill.

Abstract

The purpose of incorporating digital learning materials into vocational school English instruction is to assist students in acquiring specific competencies. Additionally, prepared digital learning materials are intended to assist teachers in developing instructional materials that follow the principles of English for Specific Purposes (ESP) in vocational high schools (SMK). The research used the qualitative research and development (R&D) method. The stages of developing this teaching material model are adapted from Thiagarajan, Semmel, and Semmel's 4Ds model (1974), which consists of four stages: define, design, develop, and disseminate. As data sources, the participants were two teachers from two different vocational schools with a combined enrolment of 115 students. This research's results are a model for developing digital-based teaching materials (prepared digital learning materials). Furthermore, it was discovered that using the prepared digital learning materials greatly aided teachers in teaching English to achieve specific competencies. From the students' perspective, they admitted that it was also exciting because they perceived learning as distinct from traditional   learning materials due to digital materials usage.

Abstract

Kegiatan pengabdian bertujuan untuk memperkaya referensi siswa-siswa SD tentang profesi-profesi formal yang ada. Referensi ini bermanfaat untuk membantu siswa-siswa dalam merumuskan cita-cita mereka di masa depan. Kegiatan ini dilakukan dengan metode pelatihan berbentuk Kelas Inspirasi melalui teknik ceramah, diskusi, dan latihan. Kegiatan ini diikuti oleh siswa-siswa kelas 4, 5, dan 6 SD Negeri Bantayan Kecamatan Nurussalam, Kabuaten Aceh Timur. Namun untuk pembahasan ini difokuskan hanya pada siswa kelas 5 SD yang berjumlah sebanyak 25 orang. Kegiatan pengabdian Kelas Inspirasi ini dilaksanakan selama satu hari dengan memberikan penyampaian materi dan contoh perkenalan diri dalam bahasa Inggris, sesi diskusi dan penyiapan bahan perkenalan siswa dalam bahasa Inggris, serta diakhiri sesi praktek perkenalan diri dalam bahasa Inggris dari siswa. Hasil pengabdian ini adalah siswa mampu menulis perkenalan dalam bahasa Inggris yang meliputi nama (my name is…../I am….), tempat tinggal (I live in…..), cita-cita (my ambition is…../I want to be…..) serta mampu mempraktekkannya di depan kelas. Selain itu, dari hasil observasi selama di kelas dan wawancara dengan beberapa siswa, dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa siswa-siswa sangat senang dengan adanya Kelas Inspirasi ini. Mereka sangat senang dengan kehadiran kami (yang mereka sebut sebagai orang-orang kota) di sekolah mereka. Dari kegiatan Kelas Inspirasi ini, direkomendasikan kepada kepala sekolah untuk dapat menyelenggarakan kegiatan yang serupa di masa depan.
