Abstract

Diabetes mellitus (DM) is one of the four priorities of non-communicable diseases in the world, divided into two types (I and II). The incidence of type II DM in Serang is quite high, there were more than 500 outpatients in 2018, with around 70-100 non BPJS patients. This research was conducted to non BPJS patients, in order to see the difference in the cost of using Oral Hypoglycemic Drugs (OHDs), namely Metformin and Glimepirid. Similar research has never been done by UPN Veterans Jakarta in Serang. This study was an observational analytic study using a cross-sectional approach whose data were taken retrospectively. Subjects were non BPJS type II DM outpatients in 2018, aged 20-65 years, and adhering to treatment using Metformin and Glimepirid. The tools used are paper, stationery, computers, and printers. The materials used are patient data obtained from medical records, pharmaceutical installations, and finance. Data were analysed descriptively and tested its normality with Kolmogorov-Smirnov. The results showed the average cost of using Metformin was Rp 1,209,- while Glimepirid was Rp 1,228,-. So it can be concluded that the cost of using Metformin in outpatient type II DM patients in Serang in 2018, is slightly cheaper than Glimepirid.

Abstract

Antibiotic resistance is a global health problem that has severe implications for morbidity, mortality, and health costs. Based on the Antimicrobial Resistant in Indonesia (AMRIN-Study), it was reported that there were bacteria that were resistant to antibiotics, including Escherichia coli, which is resistant to ampicillin trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole and ciprofloxacin; and Staphylococcus aureus which is resistant to oxacillin, vancomycin, clindamycin, and levofloxacin. In Indonesia, Syzygium polyanthum (Wight) Walp. Bay leaf is one of the plants that is often used as spices. Its bay leaf contains secondary metabolites that have an antibacterial function. This study analyzed the antibacterial activities of bay leaf extract against Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli. This research used a systematic literature review with a literature search strategy using Google Scholar and PubMed. The literature discusses bay leaf extract, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, and antibacterial activity. From this study, 14 research articles described the antibacterial activity of bay leaf extract by inhibiting the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli in the medium, strong, and very strong categories. Bay leaf extract can inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus and Escherichia coli because it contains phytochemical compounds with antibacterial properties, including alkaloids, flavonoids, steroids/ triterpenoids, saponins, tannins, phenols, essential oils, and carbohydrate.

Abstract

Abstract: Moringa (Moringa oleifera L.) is a plant that has a wide range of health benefits. The benefits of Moringa can be obtained from the leaf part. One of the compounds that are in Moringa leaves and have benefits is phenol compounds. Phenol compounds were tested from Moringa leaf extract obtained using the ultrasonic method. The ultrasonic method is an extraction method that can produce extracts effectively and efficiently. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of variations in material concentration: solvent (1:10, 1:15, and 1:20) and extraction duration (10, 20, and 30 minutes) on the yield value and total phenol content of Moringa leaf extract. The extract obtained is then weighed and calculated the yield value. After that, Moringa leaf extract was tested for phytochemical screening and total phenol level test. Based on the results of the study, it showed that the highest amendment value of Moringa leaf extract was obtained from the ratio of ingredients: solvent 1:20 b / v with an extraction time of 30 minutes, which was 35.89%. Then the highest total phenol content results were obtained from moringa leaf ethanol extract at the ratio of ingredients: solvent 1:20 b / v with an extraction time of 30 minutes, which was 25,9 GAE/g.
