Abstract

Aims: This study explores the psychological responses and coping mechanisms employed by gay men in adapting to HIV/AIDS. Methods: This research is qualitative research with descriptive methods. The sample was taken using a purposive sampling technique with inclusion criteria, namely: gays who were declared positive for HIV/AIDS as proven by a doctor's statement stating that they were positive for COVID-19, were undergoing medical treatment both inpatient and outpatient, had experience interacting with nurses when undergoing treatment. This study involved four key informants to recruit potential participants who meet the inclusion criteria. Data analysis involved thematic analysis. Results: 14 participants were included. Four themes emerged: (1) anxiety and stress arising from interpersonal conflicts post-diagnosis, (2) diverse stages of the grieving process, (3) feelings of helplessness confronting the reality of HIV/AIDS, and (4) utilization of problem-solving coping mechanisms as a means of acceptance. Conclusion: The study emphasizes the importance of empowering gay men with HIV/AIDS by facilitating access to healthcare and social support. Empowerment enhances their ability to leverage internal resources to manage the disease, ultimately aiding them in leading more fulfilling lives.

Abstract

Nursing care is a crucial aspect in addressing health issues, including Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV)/ Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS), especially within the gay population. A lack of knowledge regarding nursing care for this population can hinder the reduction of HIV/AIDS cases. There is a need for HIV/AIDS nursing care standards that are not only comprehensive but also sensitive to the specific perceptions and needs of gay patients. Negative perceptions of nursing care can affect the quality of care and patient involvement in managing their health. Therefore, this study aims to explore these perceptions. This study employed a qualitative descriptive design to gain a deep understanding of the perceptions of gay patients with HIV/AIDS towards nursing care. Data was collected through in-depth interviews with 14 participants selected purposively. The interviews were designed to explore the participants' views, experiences, and expectations regarding the nursing services they received. The collected data was analyzed using thematic analysis, allowing the researchers to identify and categorize the main themes from the gathered information. Two main themes were identified during this study: The desired professional nursing services for gay individuals with HIV/AIDS and the limitations of nurses in involving gay clients with HIV/AIDS in the nursing care planning process. Consistent and standardized nursing care services, as well as enhancing nurses' skills and abilities through mentoring and training, are the expectations of gay individuals with HIV/AIDS towards professional nursing care. A heavy workload is a limitation faced by nurses in providing optimal nursing care to gay individuals with HIV/AIDS.

Abstract

Pasien, Tn.

Abstract

The recovery phase is an important phase for patients to be able to return to society and recover, be independent and productive. Failure in this phase results in relapse and readmission of the patient to health services. Abstract

Nursing care is a form of nurse care that can help in overcoming health problems, including those with gay / HIV / AIDS. Nursing assessment can be one of the keys to the successful implementation of nursing care. This study aims to explore effective nursing studies for gays with HIV / AIDS. This research is qualitative research with qualitative descriptive design. Data collection uses in-depth interview techniques with semi structure and uses field notes to 14 participants and is analyzed by thematic analysis. This study produced two themes, namely the focus of the assessment technique at the beginning of the meeting and the scope of the comprehensive study. Gay with HIV / AIDS takes time to establish trust and closeness with nurses. Assessment techniques at the beginning of the meeting are things that must be considered by nurses in the nursing care process. Open attitude must be considered in conducting nursing studies.
