Abstract Waste management remains an environmental challenge, including in early childhood education settings where proper waste-sorting facilities are not yet available and children have limited habits of disposing of waste according to its type. This community service activity aimed to improve young children's understanding and habits of recognizing and sorting waste according to its type, while also providing waste-sorting bins as supporting learning media at TKIT Al-Auliya 1 Balikpapan. The activity is beneficial for fostering environmentally responsible behavior, a sense of responsibility, and cleanliness habits from an early age. The activity was designed through field observation and interviews, planning and preparation of materials, production of waste bins using plastic containers labeled according to waste categories, education on organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste, hands-on waste-sorting practice, and the handover and placement of the waste bins within the school environment. The results showed that the students were able to identify several examples of organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste with guidance from facilitators and actively participated in the waste-sorting practice. The outputs consisted of three simple waste-sorting bins that can be used as learning media and as facilities for developing waste-sorting habits. The activity demonstrates that environmental education combined with concrete media and hands-on practice can help young children understand waste-sorting concepts. Continuous habituation supported by teachers and families is needed to encourage children to apply waste-sorting behavior in their daily lives
