Abstract

This study aims to describe the use of conversational implicature and types of speech acts in informal conversations in five episodes of the Tema Indonesia YouTube channel, namely DPN, Comedy Buddy, Gegerrr, Sekolah Ngawur, and Pods Tema. This study uses a qualitative descriptive approach with an interactive model data analysis technique from Miles and Huberman (1994). The theories used are Searle's Speech Acts Theory (1969) and Grice's Conversational Implicature Theory (1975). The results of the study showed that 30 conversational implicature data were found, consisting of 53% particularized conversational implicature and 47% generalized conversational implicature. Most of the utterances are expressive speech acts that function to convey social criticism, emotional evaluation, and light satire. In addition, representative and directive speech acts were also found, although with a lower frequency, functioning to provide information and suggestions in a subtle manner. No commissive or declarative speech acts were found in the data. These findings suggest that communication in Tema Indonesia is reflective, critical, and entertaining, relying on humor and implicature to strengthen the audience's emotional engagement and encourage active interpretation of implied meanings. This research confirms that digital communication not only forms entertainment, but also a space for social and political discussion packaged in a light-hearted style.

Abstract

Evaluasi terhadap pelaksanaan pembelajaran membaca oleh pendidik memerlukan pengkajian ulang. Proses pembelajaran yang ditandai dengan dominannya teknik ceramah dan ketergantungan pada papan tulis sebagai perangkat pengajaran utama menyebabkan hasil belajar yang kurang memuaskan. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menyelidiki dampak penggunaan media gambar terhadap keterampilan membaca siswa usia 6 dan 7 tahun. Penelitian ini menggunakan Penelitian Tindakan Kelas (PTK), yang dilaksanakan dalam dua siklus. Subjek penelitian terdiri dari 33 anak usia 6-7 tahun yang terdaftar di SD Mater Dei Pamulang, Tangerang, Banten. Strategi pengumpulan data yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini meliputi metode observasi, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. Temuan penelitian menunjukkan bahwa pemanfaatan media visual berpotensi meningkatkan kemampuan membaca siswa di SD Mater Dei Pamulang. Pemanfaatan media visual memungkinkan anak memperoleh pengalaman yang menyenangkan dan baru.

Abstract

Background: Pendidikan karakter merupakan metode pendidikan yang bertujuan untuk mengembangkan sifat-sifat yang diperlukan untuk menumbuhkan karakter moral yang kuat. Pendidikan karakter dipandang sebagai nilai yang krusial untuk ditanamkan pada anak usia dini. Tujuan kegiatan Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah membentuk karakter anak melalui dongeng dalam pembelajaran di sekolah. Metode: Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilakukan pada 22 Januari – 26 Januari 2024 yang diikuti oleh 23 orang siswa dan 4 orang guru dari TK Lab School FIP – UMJ melalui tiga tahap. Pertama, tahap perencanaan yaitu tim pelaksana berkoordinasi dengan pihak sekolah untuk menentukan jadwal kegiatan. Selain itu, tim PkM menyiapkan seluruh materi dan modul yang diperlukan untuk presentasi. Kedua adalah pelaksanaan kegiatan oleh tim PkM bekerjasama dengan guru TK Lab School FIP - UMJ. Tahap ketiga adalah evaluasi. Evaluasi dilakukan oleh tim PkM melalui serangkaian pertanyaan yang ditujukan kepada para guru. Hasil: Terdapat 77 persen peserta aktif mengikuti PkM ini. Hal ini dibuktikan dengan banyaknya jumlah dan semangat individu yang terlibat dalam PkM ini. Kesimpulan: Pemanfaatan dongeng mempunyai kapasitas untuk meningkatkan kemampuan membaca dan membentuk anak-anak di TK Lab School FIP – UMJ.

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan gambaran secara menyeluruh mengenai ujaran kebencian yang ditujukan kepada Lesty Kejora (LK) di kolom komentar akun Instagram pribadinya. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode penelitian kualitatif. Kerangka teori utama yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah teori tindak tutur pragmatik Searle, sedangkan datanya berasal dari tangkapan layar komentar netizen di akun Instagram LK. Berdasarkan hasil analisis dapat ditarik kesimpulan bahwa terdapat tindak tutur ilokusi yang ditemukan pada 15 data ujaran kebencian di kolom komentar terdapat (7) data dengan tindak tutur ekspresif yang fungsinya mengkritik dan menyalahkan, (4) data dengan tindak tutur asertif dengan fungsi dua data fungsi menyindir, satu data berfungsi menyarankan, satu data berfungsi menyatakan, (2) data dengan tindak tutur deklaratif dengan fungsi yang berfungsi melarang, (2) data dengan tindak tutur direktif yang berfungsi memerintah dan menyuruh. Berdasarkan hasil temuan tindak tutur ilokusi ekspresif dengan fungsi sebagai mengkritik ditemukan paling dominan, hal ini terjadi karena banyaknya komentar di kolom Instagram @LK yang mengungkapkan ketidakpuasannya dengan mengkritisi LK karena mencabut laporan KDRT yang diterimanya.

Abstract

This study investigates the linguistic landscape of Jalan Braga, Bandung, a heritage street rich in historical and cultural significance. Using a qualitative descriptive design, data were collected through photographic documentation, field observation, and secondary sources, resulting in 60 signage items analyzed. Findings reveal that monolingual signage dominates (68.3%), particularly in English and Indonesian, followed by bilingual (23.3%) and multilingual signs (8.4%). The results demonstrate that English functions both as a global lingua franca and a branding tool, while Indonesian serves as a marker of national identity. Dutch signage symbolizes colonial heritage, whereas Sundanese, though limited in number, reflects local cultural identity. Multilingual signs, though fewer, strategically integrate languages such as Japanese, Korean, and Mandarin to project cosmopolitanism and cultural hybridity. The study highlights how language use in Braga reflects not only practical communication but also symbolic functions tied to identity, history, and globalization. This research contributes to linguistic landscape studies by emphasizing the interplay of colonial, national, local, and global languages in urban heritage spaces.

Abstract

In today’s political communication, spontaneous statements by public officials spread quickly through digital media and strongly influence public opinion. Because these statements are produced without careful preparation, they often trigger intense emotional reactions and public polarization. However, systematic linguistic research on this phenomenon, especially in the Indonesian context, remains limited. The present research aims to examine the forms of speech acts in spontaneous political utterances, the patterns of public response they generate, and the sociolinguistic contexts that shape their interpretation. This study uses a qualitative approach with pragmatic discourse analysis, integrating Austin’s (1962) and Searle’s (1969, 1979) speech act theory, stance detection for public response analysis (ALDayel & Magdy, 2021), and Hymes’ (1974) Speaking model in a three-stage framework. This combination enables simultaneous examination of linguistic structures and sociolinguistic contexts. Data were drawn from ten unplanned statements by the Regent of Pati, Central Java, Indonesia, during a doorstop interview, recorded and shared via the official YouTube channel. Findings show the speech acts comprised directives (50%), commissives (40%), and representatives (10%). Directives, often challenging or commanding in a provocative tone, were the main triggers for criticism (67.7%) and sarcasm (6.1%) on social media. Commissives, emphasizing an uncompromising stance, strengthened perceptions of resistance to dialogue and mobilized regional opposition (26.2%). Representative acts, framed as claims “for the people,” failed to mitigate criticism and instead raised debates on credibility. Stance detection revealed polarization: 67.7% of responses fell into the Against category, 26.2% indirectly aligned with Favor toward opposition movements, and 6.1% employed sarcasm or humor as symbolic resistance. No neutral or purely informative responses were found. Hymes’ Speaking model identified contextual amplifiers, including the interview’s confrontational setting, direct targeting of individuals, and rapid digital dissemination, which intensified virality and polarization. The absence of diplomatic political language, despite formal freedom of expression, contributed to perceptions of arrogance. Overall, the study demonstrates that the form, tone, and context of spontaneous political speech acts significantly shape public responses. Provocative directives and rigid commissives escalate polarization, while unsupported representative claims fail to restore credibility. The implication is that public officials need to communicate in a more convincing, open, and careful manner, as well as pay attention to the long-term impact of their choice of words, tone, and media used, especially in an era of openness and rapid flow of information on social media.

Abstract

Background: Masa remaja merupakan fase perkembangan yang kompleks, ditandai oleh kebutuhan untuk mengekspresikan identitas diri, mengelola emosi, dan menghadapi tekanan sosial. Monolog sebagai seni pertunjukan berbasis sastra lisan dapat menjadi media untuk menyalurkan ekspresi diri sekaligus berfungsi sebagai art therapy. Kegiatan ini dirancang untuk meningkatkan literasi sastra, kreativitas, dan keterampilan komunikasi remaja melalui praktik menulis dan membawakan monolog. Metode: Program dilaksanakan oleh Program Studi Sastra Indonesia Universitas Pamulang di SMA Muhammadiyah 8 Ciputat dengan melibatkan siswa kelas XI sebagai peserta. Kegiatan dilakukan melalui beberapa tahap, yaitu pengenalan konsep monolog, penulisan naskah berbasis pengalaman pribadi, pementasan monolog, serta pemberian apresiasi dan motivasi. Hasil: Hasil evaluasi menunjukkan peningkatan partisipasi aktif hingga 89%, kemampuan mengekspresikan emosi, kepercayaan diri, dan literasi emosional siswa. Selama kegiatan, siswa menunjukkan antusiasme tinggi dalam mengikuti setiap tahap. PKM ini menciptakan lingkungan suportif yang mendorong ekspresi diri, pengelolaan emosi, dan penguatan keterampilan sosial, sekaligus mendukung pengembangan karakter, kreativitas, dan apresiasi sastra di kalangan remaja. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan PKM ini berhasil menyediakan wadah ekspresi diri yang konstruktif bagi remaja melalui seni monolog.  Program ini memiliki potensi untuk dikembangkan lebih lanjut sebagai bagian dari pengembangan diri siswa di lingkungan sekolah.

Abstract

Political discussions often present economic performance as a success story, even when broader social and economic conditions suggest otherwise. In presidential budget speeches, statistics are frequently used to demonstrate success and build public trust. However, the ideological and persuasive functions of numbers, especially when combined with visual elements, remain underexplored. Most existing studies focus primarily on spoken or written language, offering limited insight into how numerical data and visuals work together to legitimize economic policies. This study examines the 2026 state budget address delivered by the President of the Republic of Indonesia using multimodal critical discourse analysis (MCDA). It investigates how verbal and visual resources interact to construct a persuasive narrative portraying the government as competent, welfare-oriented, and committed to national development. The findings reveal that economic statistics and visual symbols are not neutral representations of reality but are strategically employed to justify political authority. Through verbal strategies such as implication, repetition, and selective omission, alongside visual elements including iconography, setting, and salience, the speech constructs a narrative of economic success while marginalizing deeper social and economic issues. Among the visual strategies identified, salience emerges as the most dominant, with images consistently positioning the President as the central authority figure. Generally, the study demonstrates how numbers, repetition, and selective presentation operate together with nationalist and power-related imagery to shape public perception. These findings highlight how data presentation can influence public trust, reduce transparency, and ultimately affect democratic accountability in political and economic communication.

Abstract

Meme (dibaca: mim) dikenal sebagai wacana humor kekinian yang tercipta dan tersebar melalui media-media sosial. Interpretasi humor meme tentu berbeda dengan interpretasi humor verbal mengingat meme berbentuk item digital berupa foto dengan perpaduan aspek verbal dan visual. Studi ini merupakan studi lanjutan dari Floranti dan Saifullah (2016) yang diharapkan mampu melengkapi strategi penciptaan humor meme melalui perspektif teori relevansi Sperber dan Wilson (1986) serta bantuan dari teori multimodalitas Kress dan Van Leeweun (2006). Model ingcongruity – resolution dan teori relevansi menempatkan peranan kognisi pembaca sebagai modal utama dalam menemukan intensi komunikatif kreator dan meraih efek humor. Pembaca harus menggali efek kontekstual dan berusaha menyelesaikan ketidaksejajaran interpretasi sehingga implikasinya ialah usaha pemrosesan akan semakin besar. Berkaitan dengan konsep teori relevansi, meme dapat diinterpretasikan dengan berbagai cara dan tingkatan oleh setiap pembaca yang berbeda.

Abstract

This study examines the Makassarese rice mantras (doangang padi) as a culturally embedded learning resource for primary education within an ecopedagogical framework. The research was conducted in Lantang Village, Polongbangkeng Utara District, Takalar Regency, South Sulawesi, focusing on the integration of traditional ecological knowledge into school learning. Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through direct field observation, in-depth interviews with two customary leaders and seven community members aged 48 - 72 years who are proficient in jammang riolo (traditional Makassar language), and documentation of local manuscripts. This process aimed to interpret the mantras accurately from Makassarese into Indonesian and validate their meaning. School observations were also carried out to assess the readiness of teachers and the needs of students in implementing local knowledge-based materials. Data were analyzed using an ecopedagogical perspective, identifying ecological, spiritual, and social values that could be conserved as educational content. The findings reveal that the rice mantras contain explicit messages on planting cycles, water conservation, biodiversity, gratitude, cooperation, and responsibility. These values were applied in the classroom through mini rice-planting projects, visual storytelling, and local vocabulary booklets. Such integration enhanced students’ moral knowing dimensions perspective-taking, moral reasoning, decision-making, and self-knowledge while reinforcing cultural identity, ecological awareness, and collaborative spirit. The study concludes that tradition-based teaching offers a strategic, contextually relevant model for character-oriented and environmentally conscious primary education.
