Abstract

On August 31, 2021, Joe Biden announced officially the drawdown of the United States military forces from Afghanistan war indicating the end of the longest war in American history for 20 years. This study posits that Biden's speech serves as a means of political engagement not only as the announcement of a decision but also as the cultivation of a shared perspective and consciousness on the role and position of the United States and its allies in the Afghanistan war. This study aims at examining the representation of social actors in his speech using van Leeuwen's approach of critical discourse analysis (van Leeuwen, 2008). This study investigates the ways how the social actors are depicted in the speech and uncovers the underlying ideology behind their portrayal. According to the result, the dominance of inclusion strategies (84.1%) indicates various ways of portrayal the social actors either. The recontextualization of the Afghanistan war in the speech is constructed significantly by beliefs and attitudes of social actors within US sides. The speech expresses the role of the current president, US forces and government aiming at the shape of public opinion positively for the future of Americans and the latest national interest of United States Furthermore, this speech emphasizes the American foreign policy during Biden's administration about the multilateralism. Its implementation is proposing the diplomacy, specifically using non-military means to protect the human rights and build strong international collaboration. Biden's decision to end the Afghan war is a deliberate attempt to promote peace and stability in the United States by focusing on its future rather than dwelling on the past.

Abstract

The phenomenon of social media has undergone a transformation, serving as a platform for facilitating online commerce, exchanging ideas, disseminating information, and unfortunately, facilitating illicit activities such as fraud, intimidation, defamation, hate speech, and other related behaviors. The anonymity provided by social media platforms renders it a potent tool for disseminating harmful or discriminatory material. The purpose of this research is to describe hate speech directed at Putri Delina (PD) in her personal Instagram comment column. The descriptive qualitative research methods are used in this study. The main theory in this study is Searle's pragmatic speech act theory, and the data source is a screenshot of netizen comments on PD's Instagram account in 2022. The results of the study show that PD received hate speech in the comments section of her Instagram account. First, the expressive illocutionary, category-criticizing, found four data. Second, assertive illocutionary type, the state category, found one data. Third, the type of illocutionary commissive, swear category, found one data. Fourth, the illocutionary type of directive, the advising category, found three data. Last, the illocutionary type of declarative, the category of prohibit, found one data.

Abstract

Language phenomena during political years are always extraordinary. Drama is a constant presence, both online and offline, manifesting in various forms such as social media or real-life situations. Despite the inevitability of this problem due to the unavoidable nature of the election season, some deputy candidates are diligently creating political communication strategies to gain acceptance from the broader society. It is essential to comprehend these strategies collectively to ensure that the selected representatives do not consistently project an unfavorable image. Prior research has indeed been conducted on political communication and humor, but as distinct areas of study. This research combines the concept of humor with transitivity theory to thoroughly and precisely investigate the data. The approach employed is qualitative, underpinned by Halliday's transitivity theory and van Dijk's critical discourse analysis. The data source is the legislative interview (wawancaleg) on the channel @Abdel.Achrian. The data were collected using the observation method, which involved the basic technique of listening and the advanced technique of taking notes. The analysis reveals that the predominant structure of political communication discussion in the legislative interview program, hosted by Abdel Achrian, is characterized by material and mental processes. The material and mental processes achieve equilibrium between the physical and the mental, creating a demeanor that is both calm and earnest. The reader can infer that this pattern is applicable to speech patterns characterized by a relaxed or non-stiff expression, but nevertheless conveying a serious impression.

Abstract

This study attempts to analyze the grammatical errors in the writings of Indonesian EFL students through the Error Analysis (EA) approach. The subject of this research included the theses which are written by the university students of English Letters Department at one of the State University, Jakarta. The data sources were taken from chapter four, the conclusion, and the suggestion section from six students’ theses. In this study, the data collection was carried out through several steps: the authors collected data from students, identified grammatical errors, classified errors in students' thesis to determine the frequency of errors, and calculated the data into percentages. The results indicate that there are eleven types of errors commonly found in students’ writing. They are 5% errors of subject-verb and agreement, 2% errors in word order, 13% errors in preposition, 20% errors in article, 2% errors in plurality form, 19% errors in punctuation, 5% errors in auxiliary, 21% errors in unnecessary words, 5% errors in word choice, 5% errors in parallel structure, and 2% errors in redundancy. The writer observed 125 total errors. The errors are dominated in the form of punctuation, article, and unnecessary words types. The research unveils that students make common grammatical errors encouraged by the incapability to accomplish, recognize and understand the rules of the foreign language and its limitations, a little mastery of grammar and vocabulary.

Abstract

The purpose of the research is to identify directive illocutionary acts in school slogans. This study aims to investigate several categories of directive illocutionary speech acts in the school slogans at MTS Negeri 3 Tangerang. The method used by researchers is qualitative descriptive methods by referring to Searle's speech acts theory. The results showed that three kinds of directive speech acts are utilized in the school slogans; advising twenty utterances, commanding one utterance, requesting two utterances. Based on the results, the most dominant type of directive speech acts used was advising with 20 occurrences. It means that the school provides a lot of advice to their students (addressee) through these school slogans. In addition, context and co-context have a very important role in understanding the slogans thus the slogan found contains more to the philosophy of life and educational values.

Abstract

Background: Perkembangan teknologi yang eksponensial memberikan pengaruh pada sebagian besar aspek kehidupan manusia. Salah satu konsekuensinya adalah siswa kini dapat dengan mudah mengambil sumber daya pendidikan. Meskipun demikian, hasil wawancara menunjukkan bahwa kemajuan digitalisasi belum sejalan dengan tingkat literasi digital di kalangan siswa. Tujuan dari Pengabdian kepada Masyarakat (PkM) ini adalah untuk mengetahui sejauh mana siswa SMK memperoleh manfaat dari pemanfaatan media pembelajaran berbasis teknologi digital sebagai media pemerolehan literatur, dengan maksud untuk menumbuhkan minat literasi digital yang lebih besar. Metode: Kegiatan pelatihan ini dilaksanakan melalui tiga tahap. Pada tahap awal, tim pelaksana bekerja sama dengan pihak sekolah untuk menyusun jadwal kegiatan pada tahap perencanaan. Selanjutnya, anggota PkM bertugas untuk menyiapkan semua materi yang diperlukan untuk penyajian. Tahap kedua adalah pelaksanaan kegiatan oleh tim PkM yang bermitra dengan para pendidik di SMK Kesehatan Letris Indonesia 2.  Terakhir, tahap ketiga adalah evaluasi. PkM dilaksanakan selama tiga hari, tepatnya pada tanggal 3 September 2024 sampai dengan tanggal 5 September 2024. Sebanyak 30 siswa mengikuti pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini. Hasil: Hasil evaluasi yang diperoleh dari kuesioner menunjukkan bahwa 88 persen peserta aktif dalam PkM ini memenuhi kriteria. Lebih lanjut, hasil tersebut menunjukkan tingkat kepuasan peserta. Kesimpulan: Jumlah siswa yang terlibat dalam PkM ini menjadi bukti pernyataan tersebut. Selain itu, pemanfaatan literasi digital meningkatkan minat siswa di SMK Kesehatan Letris Indonesia 2.

Abstract

Prestasi kerja pegawai dalam hal ini tenaga kependidikan (Tendik) menjadi penentu keberhasilan kinerja Badan Layanan Umum (BLU) Universitas Negeri Surabaya. Tendik yang memiliki jiwa kepemimpinan yang baik termasuk kompetensi tendik berprestasi dan unggul yang diharapkan dapat memacu tendik-tendik lain di Universitas Negeri Surabaya untuk beprestasi pula. Penilaian terhadap tendik berprestasi berdasarkan aturan Permendikbud no. 30 Tahun 2018. Form F5 pada lampiran permendikbud No. 30 Tahun 2018 dijadikan variabel penilaian pada sistem pendukung penilaian tenaga kependidikan berprestasi. Metode yang digunakan penilaian yaitu metode SAW (Simple Additive Weighting), karena metode menghasilkan penilaian yang relatif tepat terhadap kriteria penilaian yang ditetapkan. Kriteria-kriteria penilaian yang digunakan diantaranya penilaian tentang ide kreatif, ketuntasan melaksanakan tugas, komitmen, teladan, inspirasi, amanah serta mampu bekerja dalam tim. Penelitian dengan metode SAW yang digunakan menghasilkan dan memberikan penilaian sehingga dapat memberikan dukungan keputusan pimpinan untuk memilih tendik berprestasi. Selanjutnya data tendik berprestasi tersebut di kirimkan tingkat nasional. Pada pengujian black-box sistem dapat berjalan dengan baik sesuai dengan output yang diharapkan.

Abstract

Bahasa Indonesia sebagai bahasa nasional memiliki peran penting dalam menjaga identitas dan kesatuan bangsa. Penggunaan bahasa yang baik dan benar tidak hanya berlaku dalam konteks formal, tetapi juga dalam karya sastra seperti novel. Namun, perkembangan media digital seperti Wattpad telah membuka ruang bagi lahirnya karya sastra populer yang tidak selalu memperhatikan kaidah kebahasaan secara ketat. Salah satu fenomena yang menarik untuk dianalisis adalah banyaknya kesalahan berbahasa yang muncul dalam novel-novel yang dipublikasikan secara daring. Penelitian ini berfokus pada novel Auralaska karya L Dela Fimeta, yang telah mendapatkan perhatian luas di platform Wattpad. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan jenis-jenis kesalahan berbahasa yang terdapat dalam novel Auralaska. Menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kualitatif dan teori Syamsul Ghufron mengenai jenis-jenis kesalahan berbahasa, penelitian ini menganalisis bahasa atau kata- kata yang tertulis dalam novel tersebut. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya berbagai kesalahan berbahasa yang muncul, yang meliputi kesalahan pada penulisan kata dasar sebanyak 42 data, penulisan preposisi sebanyak 9 data, penulisan prefiks sebanyak 8 data, penulisan klitika sebanyak 4 data, penulisan huruf kapital sebanyak 2 data, dan penulisan tanda baca sebanyak 1 data. Kesalahan-kesalahan ini dapat terjadi karena beberapa faktor, antara lain kebiasaan menulis dengan cepat atau kurang teliti, kurangnya pengetahuan mengenai kaidah bahasa Indonesia, minimnya proses penyuntingan, serta kesalahan yang diakibatkan oleh ketidaksengajaan. Temuan ini memberikan wawasan tentang pentingnya kehati-hatian dan pemahaman yang lebih baik terhadap kaidah bahasa dalam proses penulisan karya sastra. Abstract

Pendahuluan: Masa remaja merupakan fase penting dalam perkembangan psikologis individu, di mana mereka mulai membentuk identitas diri serta menghadapi tekanan sosial dan konflik emosional. Ketidaksadaran kolektif, sebagaimana dikemukakan oleh Carl Gustav Jung, menjadi faktor yang memengaruhi pola pikir dan perilaku remaja secara tidak sadar. Studi ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan pemahaman siswa mengenai konsep ketidaksadaran kolektif melalui film Dilan 1990, yang menggambarkan dinamika psikologis remaja secara nyata. Metode: Sosialisasi berbasis pemutaran film, diskusi kelompok, dan refleksi diri melalui kuesioner. Hasil: Sebelum pelatihan, hanya 45% siswa yang memiliki pemahaman tentang ketidaksadaran kolektif. Namun, setelah pelatihan, tingkat pemahaman meningkat menjadi 90%, dengan partisipasi siswa yang aktif selama kegiatan. Hasil ini mengindikasikan bahwa metode berbasis film dapat menjadi pendekatan efektif dalam menyampaikan konsep psikologi kepada remaja. Kesimpulan: Kegiatan ini terbukti efektif dalam memperdalam pemahaman konsep siswa untuk penguatan pendidikan karakter dan literasi psikologis di kalangan remaja sekolah menengah.
