Abstract

This service activity aims to improve creative writing skills with character education for elementary school teachers through face-to-face and virtual training. The participatory method was used in this training to stimulate teachers to be active in practicing poetry writing both in theory and practice. Face-to-face meetings were held twice for theoretical training, while virtual meetings were held for practical training in writing poetry and presenting it. Based on the results of scoring the ability to write poetry in the posttest session, the classical ability in writing poetry was 84.90%, where at the pretest stage it was 70.79%. The results show that poetry writing training containing character education through a mixed face-to-face and virtual method (Hybrid Learning) is able to improve the ability of elementary school teachers in writing creative poetry types. The improvement in the poetry writing skills of the participants was seen in all aspects of writing poetry, including themes and meanings, the power of imagination, accuracy of diction, and the message.

Abstract

The lack of success in learning Indonesian in fifth-grade elementary schools is dominant in the low productive language skills. The limitations of learning resources such as textbooks are one of the causes of the emergence of these problems. This study aims to develop Indonesian language textbooks containing character education through the Active Learning model by utilizing literature as a learning resource. The type of research used is development research with the following stages: exploration, model development, and model testing. The subjects of this research were the fifth-grade elementary school students at the exploration stage, as many as 30 students. At the development stage, as many as 56 students and as many as 165 students at the testing stage. Data was collected through documentation studies, observations, interviews, and questionnaires. The data analysis technique was conducted qualitatively using an interactive model at the exploration and product development stages. The statistical analysis used an independent sample t-test at the model test stage. The test begins with prerequisite analysis and hypothesis testing. The research results at the exploration stage showed that the textbooks used were not by the needs of elementary school students and teachers, then a needs analysis and development of a textbook prototype were carried out. At the stage of testing the effectiveness with the main field trial, it showed a difference between the experimental and control groups. The study concludes that Indonesian language textbooks are stated to improve student's language skills in elementary school. Abstract

Abstract

The teaching and learning process is still focused on educators. Students are less willing to accept learning materials and social studies. Therefore, students only have a correct understanding of the material. This research is an experimental study that uses a pre-test-post-test design with experimental and control classes. This study aims to analyze the differences in critical thinking abilities of elementary school students in the experimental class with the problem-based learning model and the control class using the guided inquiry learning model. The population in this study was fourth-grade students. The sampling technique using stratified cluster random sampling was chosen as the sampling technique. Data processing is done by analyzing Paired Sampling and Independent Sampling. The results showed (1) the t-test analysis obtained two-sided Sig of 0.00 <0.05, the hypothesis Ho was rejected, and there were differences in the effectiveness of using the PBL model and learning guidelines on student criticality. social studies thinking skills, (2) The calculation of effect size shows that the problem-based learning model (PBL) is more effective than the guided inquiry model on students' critical thinking skills in social studies learning. The critical thinking skills of students who use the problem-based learning model are much higher than the critical thinking skills of students who use the guided inquiry model. The problem-based learning (PBL) model is more effective than the guided inquiry model for social studies learning about students' critical thinking skills that can analyze and solve their problems.

Abstract

21st century learning is ideally designed with learning categorized as higher order thinking skills (HOTS). This study specifically aims to describe the implementation of online learning in the HOTS category in elementary schools. This research will be conducted on fifth grade students in elementary school in Surakarta. This research uses a qualitative approach with a case study method. Analysis of learning implementation is carried out at the stages of learning planning, learning implementation, and learning assessment. The results showed that at the planning stage, the teacher analyzed the syllabus and content as well as selecting materials, developing teaching materials. At the implementation stage, the teacher uses a whatsapp group and google meet. The technique used is a mixture of synchronous and asynchronous. Students document learning activities such as presentations or simple experiments and upload them via the google classroom link with the design referring to levels C4, C5, and C6. The teacher's analysis and responses are given after the students have collected their exam answers. The results of this study are expected to be a reference source for teachers to make adjustments to the implementation of online learning that allows for stimulating HOTS of students in elementary schools.21st century learning is ideally designed with learning categorized as higher order thinking skills (HOTS).
