Abstract

. Bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana Lam) is one of the plant in Indonesia that is useful as an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory. Some references also state that bidara leaves are useful as sunscreen. Viscolam is a type of gelling agent with good stability. This study is an experimental study, aimed at determining the effect of variations in viscolam base concentration with the addition of angel leaf ethanol extract on the physical properties of the gel. The gel preparation is made with a variation of 4% (F1) viscolam base;4.5% (F2); and 5% (F3). Bidara leaf extract added to each formulation is as much as 2.5%. The bidara leaf extract gel preparation that has been made is evaluated for the physical properties of the gel in the form of organoleptic test, homogeneity, pH, dispersion, and viscosity of the gel for 21 days, irritation tests and favorability tests. The results stated that the gel preparation was stable and did not cause irritation to the skin and a gel with a viscolam concentration of 5% (F3) was preferred. Further research needs to be done on the antioxidant activity of bidara leaf extract gel with variations in viscolam base to be used as sunscreen preparations.

Abstract

Arabic Bidara Leaf (Ziziphus Spina-christi Lam) is one of the plants used as herbal medicine. Traditionally, the Arabic Bidara plant can be used as a medicine for wounds, eye diseases, and skin diseases. Previous research stated that the Bidara Arab plant contains secondary metabolites such as flavonoids, tannins, sterols, saponins and triterpenoids. This study aims to determine the total levels of flavonoids and tannins contained in the water extract of Bidara Arab leaves. The extraction method used in this research is the maceration method. In the study of determining the total flavonoid and tannin levels using UV-Vis Spectrophotometry, the wavelength used to determine the total flavonoid content was 441 nm and for the total tannin content was 740 nm. The standard used in this study was quercetin for total flavonoid content and gallic acid for total tannin content, made with several variations in concentration. The results showed that the total flavonoid content was 0.0869% and the total tannin content was 0.2864%..

Abstract

Arabian sidr leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) contain secondary metabolites such as alkaloids, flavonoids, saponins, tannins, and phenolics, which have the potential to act as antibacterial agents. This study was designed to evaluate the antibacterial activity of a hand sanitizer formulation containing aqueous extract of Ziziphus spina-christi leaves (EADBA). The stability of the hand sanitizer was assessed through organoleptic tests, homogeneity, pH, viscosity, hedonic evaluation, and antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus aureus using the phenol coefficient method. The antibacterial test was conducted by observing turbidity in a bacterial suspension after the addition of the sample at minutes 5, 10, and 15. Results indicated that the EADBA hand sanitizer remained physically stable during four weeks of storage at both cold (4±2°C) and room temperature (±25°C). Formulations F1 and F2 demonstrated antibacterial activity equivalent to that of phenol, as evidenced by a phenol coefficient value of one.

Abstract

Sidr leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) contain bioactive compounds such as flavonoids, saponins, tannins, phenolics, and alkaloids, that have the potential to stimaulate hair growth. However, scientific studies investigating the use of Sidr leaves as a hair growth-promoting agent remain limited. This study aims to scientifically evaluate the effectiveness of ethanol extract of sidr leaves (EEDS) on hair growth through an in vivo using male white rats (Rattus norvegicus). EEDS was applied topically in concentrations of 1%, 3%, and 5%. Hair length was measured using a caliper every 5 days for 15 days. The weight of the hair was measured on day 15 by shaving the hair of each group of rats. The results showed that EEDS at a 5% concentration effectively promoted hair growth in rats. However, there is no significant relationship between hair length and hair weight of the rats

Abstract

Seiring berkembangnya sain dan teknologi, masyarakat Indonesia semakin memilih pengobatan tradisional berbasis tumbuhan karena lebih murah, aman, dan tidak memiliki efek samping yang signifikan dibandingkan pengobatan kimia sintetis. Tanaman bidara (Ziziphus mauritiana L.), yang kaya akan senyawa bioaktif seperti flavonoid dan saponin, telah terbukti memiliki berbagai manfaat kesehatan, termasuk sebagai antioksidan, antiinflamasi, dan agen penenang alami. Di Pondok Pesantren Madinatul Munawarah Bukittinggi, program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilakukan untuk meningkatkan pengetahuan dan kemampuan santri tentang penggunaan tanaman bidara sebagai obat tradisional. Pengolahan daun bidara menjadi teh, salep, dan ramuan penghilang nyeri diajarkan dalam kegiatan ini. Hasil kuesioner menunjukkan peningkatan signifikan dalam pemahaman peserta mengenai manfaat dan pengolahan tanaman bidara dimana 90% peserta mengaku mampu mengolah tanaman bidara secara mandiri.

Abstract

Dagusibu merupakan merupakan program edukasi yang bertujua agar masyarakat paham mengenai obat bagaimana cara mendapatkan, mengunakan, menyimpan dan membuang obat dengan benar. Obat bebas yang didapat dari toko obat, apotek, atau obat yang dibeli tanpa resep dokter biasanya dipersiapkan di rumah untuk penanganan sakit tanpa bantuan tenaga kesehatan. Di panti asuhan anak-anak juga dididik mandiri agar bisa melakukan kegiatan tanpa bantuan pembina atau ibu asrama termasuk pada saat mereka sedang sakit karena jumlah pengurus anak-anak di panti juga terbatas. Tujan kegiatan penyuluhan ini adalah untuk menambah pengetahuan anak-anak panti dalam penggunaan, pengelolaan dan pengawasan penggunaan obat yang baik dan benar. Kegiatan dilakukan dengan metoda edukasi dan diskusi langsung sambil bermain dengan anak-anak panti. Mateti penyuluhan terdiri dari pengertian DAGUSIBU, dari mana obat dapat diperoleh, cara penggunaan beberapa bentuk sediaan obat, cara penyimpanan obat dan cara membuang obat dengan benar. Hasil kegiatan penyuluhan tentang Edukasi DAGUSIBU kepada anak-anak panti asuhan Istana Yatim Al-Jufri telah memberikan tambahan pengetahuan bagi mereka bagaimana cara mengelola obat dengan benar.

Abstract

Alopecia is a dermatological disorder characterised by progressive hair loss, often impairing patients’ quality of life. Conventional therapies, such as minoxidil and finasteride, have demonstrated efficacy; however, their adverse effects have prompted the search for natural-based alternatives. Sidr leaves (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) and roasted candlenut seeds (Aleurites moluccanus L.) have been traditionally employed in ethnopharmacology for hair treatment, yet scientific data on their phytochemical composition remain limited. This study aimed to identify and quantify the major bioactive constituents in purified aqueous extracts of sidr leaves and roasted candlenut seeds using high-performance liquid chromatography coupled with diode-array detection (HPLC-DAD), and to assess their potential implications in alopecia therapy. Powdered sidr leaves and roasted candlenut seeds were extracted, fractionated, and analysed on a C18 column using a gradient acetonitrile–water mobile phase. The results revealed that sidr leaves are rich in rutin hydrate (245.64 ± 0.73 mg/L), accompanied by gallic acid (47.63 ± 0.43 mg/L) and quercetin (6.85 mg/L), whereas roasted candlenut seeds predominantly contain quercetin (27.00 mg/L). Rutin functions as an antioxidant and angiogenesis stimulator, gallic acid exhibits anti-inflammatory activity, and quercetin acts as a 5α-reductase inhibitor relevant to androgenetic alopecia. In conclusion, the phytochemical profiles of sidr leaves and roasted candlenut seeds support their potential use as phytotherapeutic candidates for alopecia management.

Abstract

Alopecia merupakan gangguan pertumbuhan rambut yang berkaitan dengan stres oksidatif dan inflamasi kronis pada folikel rambut. Terapi konvensional seperti minoxidil dan finasterid memiliki keterbatasan efektivitas serta potensi efek samping, sehingga diperlukan alternatif berbasis bahan alam yang lebih aman. Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi aktivitas biologis dan mutu fisik emulgent topikal yang mengandung purifikasi ekstrak daun sidr (Ziziphus spina-christi L.) dan biji kemiri bakar (Aleurites moluccanus L.) sebagai kandidat fitoterapeutik penumbuh rambut. Ekstraksi dilakukan menggunakan metode ultrasound-assisted extraction dan sokhletasi, dilanjutkan pemurnian berbasis air. Analisis HPLC menunjukkan kandungan utama berupa rutin (245 mg/L), quercetin (6,8 mg/L), dan asam galat (47 mg/L) pada ekstrak sidr, serta quercetin (27 mg/L) pada ekstrak kemiri bakar. Evaluasi fisik sediaan menunjukkan pH fisiologis (5,0–6,7), daya sebar optimal, viskositas stabil, serta stabilitas baik pada uji freeze–thaw. Uji in vivo selama 21 hari menunjukkan bahwa formula kombinasi secara signifikan meningkatkan pertumbuhan rambut dibandingkan basis dan minoxidil 2% (ANOVA, F = 9,28; p = 0,0003). Efek ini berkaitan dengan aktivitas antioksidan dan antiinflamasi flavonoid yang mendukung perpanjangan fase anagen.
