Abstract

This is a descriptive study aimed at investigating resilience among university teachers, especially in dealing with changes in education policies during the Covid-19 pandemic. The participants in this research were lecturers at the English education study programme at a state university in West Nusa Tenggara Province, Indonesia. The data were obtained through an online questionnaire which was distributed to all potential respondents. Among 39 teaching staff, 26 completed and returned the form. Based on the data analysis it was found that most of the teachers (86.6%) are classified as having high and very high resilience, with only 13.4% having moderate resilience, and none as low or very low resilience. Based on gender, the level of resilience for both male and female lecturers is within the same level of high resilience, with females having a slightly higher rate than males, at 63 and 59.5 respectively (within the range of 17-85). There is an interesting finding on how resilience relates to the length of tenure. Based on this final category, it was found that length of tenure negatively correlates with the level of resilience with tenure group of 1-6 years, 7-21 years and 21 years and above scoring 63.7, 61.7, and 56 respectively, although on average all groups are still categorised as having high resilience. The majority of these university professors also perceive the changing education policy as something inevitable. With regard to how they expect to be helped to better adapt to changes and maintain their resilience, for any new policies there should be clear planning of the policy, proof that they work well (not based on trial and error), early socialisation, adequate training and coaching, and evaluation of the effectiveness of policies being implemented.Keywords: Educational policies, pandemic, teacher resilience

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menguji domain linguistik dan kualitas item alat penilaian sumatif yang digunakan untuk ujian akhir di SMA dan MA, dua jenis sekolah yang berbeda dengan penyedia yang berbeda. Ini adalah penelitian kualitatif yang berfokus pada analisis pada serangkaian tes buatan guru (TMT) di kedua jenis sekolah sebagai data primer dan respons guru bahasa Inggris sebagai data sekunder. TMT untuk kedua jenis sekolah diberikan kepada semua siswa di SMA dan MA di Lombok Timur, di mana penelitian ini dilakukan. Hasil analisis data menunjukkan bahwa (1) TMT dirancang oleh sebuah tim, diusulkan oleh pejabat pemerintah terkait institusi, urusan pendidikan dan budaya untuk SMA dan kementerian agama untuk MA; (2) dua TMT yang berbeda dikembangkan berdasarkan prinsip-prinsip desain pilihan ganda; (3) menilai pemahaman reading adalah item dominan dalam pertanyaan pilihan ganda tes SMA dan MA; (4) proporsi menilai keterampilan bahasa lainnya dan elemen linguistik dalam pertanyaan pilihan ganda tidak dirumuskan secara sistematis, yang menyebabkan perbedaan yang signifikan antara tes guru SMA dan MA.

Abstract

Abstract : Menciptakan pembelajaran yang menyenangkan adalah keharusan bagi para guru. Pemanfaatan media pembelajaran adalah salah satu cara yang bisa dilakukan oleh para guru untuk menciptakan pembelajaran yang tidak hanya menyenangkan tetapi juga dapat mempermudah proses pemahaman siswa terhadap bahan ajar yang disampaikan. Tulisan ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan pemanfaatan media audio-visual yang diintegrasikan dengan teknik kerja kelompok dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris di kelas IXD SMPN 15 Mataram.yang melibatkan 34 siswa. Tes dan angket digunakan untuk mengumpulkan data terkait prestasi belajar dan persepsi siswa tentang media audio-visual dalam pembelajaran bahasa Inggris selama 6 kali pertemuan. Data yang terkumpul dan dianalisis secara kualitatif menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata hasil belajar siswa adalah 80,49 dengan rentang skor 57 – 100. Sedangkan hasil angket menunjukkan bahwa sebagian besar (88%) siswa sangat setuju dengan perlunya penggunaan media audio-visual dan dengan penggunaan media audio-visual yang menjadikan pelajaran bahasa Inggris pelajaran yang menyenangkan, 61,76% siswa menyatakan sangat setuju jika media audio-visual tidak hanya melatih tetapi juga menghibur, dan 52,94% siswa menyatakn setuju jika penggunaan media-audio visual dapat memotivasi dan mempermudah mereka dalam memahamai bahan ajar. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian ini dan manfaat dari media audio-visual dan teknik kerja kelompok maka para guru disarankan untuk memanfaatkan media audio-visual dengan mengintegrasikannya dengan teknik kerja kelompok untuk menjadikan pembelajaran bahasa Inggris pembelajaran yang menyenangakan.Keywords : media audio-visual, teknik kerja kelompok, pembelajaran bahas Inggris

Abstract

Tulisan ini merupakan hasil penelitian yang diarahkan untuk megetahui dan mengembangkan kemampuan mahasiswa S1 Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Universitas Mataram dalam menerapkan teori-teori terjemhan yang diajarkan di kelas untuk mengedit terjemahan hasil terjemahan online yang dalam hal ini menggunakan Google Translate. Google Translate yang terus berkembang dan semakin baik karena sumbangsih pengguna sampai saat ini belum dapat dilepas bebas untuk menerjemahkan teks ilmiah terutama teks akademik yang dibutuhkan mahasiswa, seperti artikel jurnal dan buku teks akademik. Beberapa jenis teks diterjemahkan dengan Google Translate yang hasilnya belum terlalu baik digunakan sebagai instrument untuk mengumpulkan data kemampuan mahasiswa menerapkan teori terjemahan dalam menyunting hasil terjemahan. Teks terjemahan tersebut memang masih perlu disunting untulk mendapatkan terjemahan yang sesuai dengan teks sumber. Kemampuan dasar linguistik mahasiswa ditambah dengan penguasaan teori terjemahan yang diajarkan menjadi modal dasar mahasiswa dalam menyunting hasil terjemahan Google Translate. Penelitian ini dilaksanakan pada mahasiswa yang mengambil mata kuliah translation. Mata kuliah ini sengaja dirancang sebagai workshop terjemahan agar teori dan praktik berjalan bersamaan dimana dalam setiap pertemuan ada teori yang dijelaskan dan kemudian mahasiswa diberikan tugas terjemahan yang disunting untuk mendapatkan teks bahasa target yang baik. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa teori terjemahan masih belum mampu diterapkan dengan baik oleh mahasiswa sehingga hasil penyuntingan belum jauh berbeda dengan hasil terjemahan Google Translate. Beberapa teori masih belum dipahami dengan baik sehingga tidak dapat diterapkan dengan baik pula pada penyuntingan teks hasil terjemahan Google Translate.

Abstract

The implementation of workshops and practice for the implementation of Lesson Study for Community Learning (LSLC) was held at MTs Sabilurrrasyad NW Barabali, Central Lombok. The purpose of this community service activity was to equip teachers at the school with the knowledge and practice of planning, implementing and evaluating interactive learning through LSLC. The outcome of this activity was the development of teachers’ pedagogical competence in implementing LSCL. Through this activity, it is hoped that these teachers can apply LSLC in their daily teaching and learning practices that are more accommodating to both teachers and students. The target audience for this workshop was the teachers of MTs Sabilurrrasyad NW Barabali, Central Lombok. The reason for the urgency of conducting this activity is that teachers in the target area lack training in developing teaching skills. They do not update their pedagogical skills. To accommodate the learning needs of andragogy, this workshop was conducted using the LSCL-style collaborative learning activity model, such as dialogue, problem solving, demonstration, problem analysis exercises without criticism, reflection and question and answer. Results of the training activity show that the workshop participants felt that they underwent substantial improvement in their pedagogical competence. They therefore expect that similar types of community services would be continued in the future, focusing on improving their professionalism. The participants revealed that they had learned much from the workshop of how to learn from others without criticism and unproductive arguments.

Abstract

In the era of the industrial revolution 4.0 which is characterized by the acceleration of information and technology where information is easily spread throughout the world, teachers have a very important role to prepare students so that they are able to process and understand information well and equipping the students with the skills to read is one of the ways out that teachers need to do. In teaching reading, teachers are required not only to train students' skill to understand texts, but also to train their skill to think actively, creatively and critically and thus, reading learning can provide adequate literacy skills to students. This community service activity aims to socialize the learning model of reading information texts to English teachers from private high schools in East Lombok district as well as train them in applying the model. This activity took place at Al-Badriyah Islamic High School and was attended by 27 teachers. The results of this activity showed that the participants looked enthusiastic and active in participating in the existing series of activities – paying attention and listening to the materials presented by the team, discussions or questions and answers related to presented materials and English learning problems and practicing learning models to read information texts. In addition, the results of the questionnaire for the evaluation of community service activities show that the participants welcomed this activity because they could increase their knowledge and insight, especially those related to teaching reading so that they hoped that there would be similar activities provided in the future.

Abstract

Plagiarism or plagiarism in the academic world is considered a crime because it steals other people's copyrights. Universities as mandated by the regulation of the Minister of National Education of the Republic of Indonesia No. 17 of 2010 need to take precautions so that plagiarism does not occur and counteract plagiarism. Plagiarism activities carried out by academics, especially students, are due to their ignorance about plagiarism and strategies to avoid plagiarism. Among the strategies that can be used by a writer to avoid plagiarism is by quoting and paraphrasing and summarizing other people's information, opinions or ideas correctly. This community service activity was carried out in the form of training which began with the delivery of material related to plagiarism, quoting, paraphrasing and summarizing to 17 students of the English language education master's study program at FKIP University of Mataram who were and would be completing their final assignment (thesis writing). This service activity was carried out in 2 meetings, where the first meeting was for delivering material and guided training and the second meeting was for presenting results and giving feedback, as well as evaluating activities. Based on the results of observations, questionnaires and portfolios, it can be concluded that students were enthusiastic in participating in a series of activities, active in asking questions, working in groups and presenting the results of their group work. The students also said that activities like this were very useful and hoped that similar activities would be held regularly.

Abstract

This research was aimed at finding Foreignization and Domestication in the novel Did I Mention I love You? It also described the cultural-specific terms of the data found. The data collected from the novel Did I Mention I Love You? and its translation were presented by descriptive qualitative method. The findings reveal that there were several techniques belong to foreignization and so do domestication. Foreignization consisted of literal translation, transliteration, borrowing, and transference while domestication consisted of transposition, omission, addition, and adaptation. It was also found some categories of cultural-specific terms. The result of this research showed that there were 287 data of foreignization and 565 data of domestication. Furthermore, there were 137 data of foreigization and 219 data of domestication categorized in cultural-specific terms classification based on Newmark’s.

Abstract

This study aims to find out the complexity of sentence structure in the reading text of Grade X textbooks provided by several publishers. This research his descriptive qualitative with the support of some descriptive quantification. The source of data taken from reading texts used by senior high school students grade X published by Cultural and Educational Ministry of Indonesia, Yrama Widya, and PT. Tiga Serangkai Pustaka Mandiri. The data of this research are all sentences found in the reading texts e.g., descriptive text, recount text, and narrative text. The data of this research deal with complexity of sentence structure measured by the number of simple sentences, compound sentence, complex sentence, and compound complex sentence. The result of this study shows that each textbook contains different percentage of simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and sentences. The textbooks published by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan and Yrama Widia has the highest percentage of complex sentence (51.5%;37.9%, respectively). In contrast, the highest percentage in Tiga Serangkai Mandiri is simple sentence (55.7). The least percentage is compound sentence which can be seen in Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan and Yrama Widia (8.6%, 4.6%, respectively). The small percentage of compound complex is shown in the textbook published by Kementrian Pendidikan dan Kebudayaan and Tiga Serangkai Mandiri (5.7%, 9.0%, respectively).
