Abstract

Abstract

The need for a smart grid has been spurred by the growth of distributed generation, the aging of the current grid infrastructure, and the desire to alter networks. The development and enhancement of smart grid technology is significantly facilitated by the Internet of Things (IoT) technology. Batteries play a crucial role in the energy storage of electrical systems, including smart microgrids and electric vehicles. To enhance performance and prolong battery life, a Battery Monitoring System (BMS) is required to manage the energy storage process dynamics within the battery. Battery life prediction contributes to the consistent and efficient operation of battery-powered devices. This research presents battery charging monitoring using Nodered. Apart from that, the battery charging feature uses a cut-off concept. The cut off on the battery is to prevent the battery from over-discharging which can damage the battery and shorten its lifespan. This research carried out validation using 3 case studies on battery charging. Validation of measurements uses a comparison between the INA 219 sensor and a multimeter. From experiments, current testing from 3 case studies, it was found that the average difference in current sensor error was 0.19%.

Abstract

Electricity consumption continues to increase as electronic equipment is used, resulting in rising monthly electricity bills. The background to this title stems from an electricity consumption survey. The survey team encountered difficulties monitoring electricity usage on the electrical panels in each building. The urgency of this research is to facilitate monitoring of electricity usage on three-phase electrical panels that can be easily installed and removed for use in various electrical panels The electrical energy data is accumulated from all three phases every second to determine the total electrical energy consumption across all three phases, the ESP32 microcontroller is also used as the brain for controlling the transmission and recording data in a Google spreadsheet for data storage. The results of the electrical energy measurement test, comparing the designed device with  3-phase kWh meter over six days of testing, revealed that the error value of the designed device was 0.26%, which is the maximum error value stipulated error limit of ±1%. This indicates that the designed measuring instrument has a high level of accuracy and meets international measuring instrument standards, with an average accuracy of 99.74%. The IEC 62053-21 standard is an international reference standard that regulates the accuracy and error limits for electrical energy meters (kWh meters). These results indicate that the designed electrical energy monitoring device is capable of performing well and accurately, approaching the values of standard electrical energy meters (kWh meters).

Abstract

Conventional irrigation systems in rural agricultural areas are generally operated manually and rely on fossil-fuel-based pumps, resulting in high operational costs and low efficiency, particularly during the dry season. The objective of this research is to develop an autonomous irrigation system based on an off-grid photovoltaic power system that operates automatically according to water availability conditions. The proposed system utilizes a 250 Wp photovoltaic panel, a 12 V 200 Ah VRLA battery, an Arduino Uno microcontroller, float switch sensors for water level detection, and a LoRa-based communication module for security and remote monitoring. Field testing was conducted under actual operating conditions during five hours of effective solar irradiation by measuring photovoltaic output parameters (voltage, current, power, and energy), pump operating performance, automatic control response, and LoRa communication reliability. The photovoltaic system produced a total daily energy of 622.34 Wh under the test conditions. The water pump operated for approximately 2.5 hours with an actual power consumption of ±500 W. The automatic control system successfully operated according to water availability in the river and irrigation demand in the rice field. In addition, the LoRa-based security system successfully transmitted warning signals over a distance of 300 m without data loss. These results indicate that the proposed system operates reliably for automatic rice field irrigation and remote security monitoring; however, increasing the photovoltaic capacity is recommended to better satisfy the system’s daily energy demand.

Abstract

In this article, the direct current (DC) motor control approach is presented using the sand cat swarm optimization (SCSO) method to obtain the best proportional integral derivative (PID) parameters. DC motors are popular equipment. In addition, DC motors are easy to apply. SCSO is a method that adopts the desert cat’s life in nature when searching for prey. This cat is able to detect low frequencies below 2 kHz and also has an extraordinary ability to dig for prey. This research was carried out using the MATLAB/Simulink application. To obtain the performance of the SCSO method, a comparison method was used, namely particle swarm optimization (PSO), gray wolf optimizer (GWO), whale optimization algorithm (WOA), and aquila optimizer (AO). From the results of the study, it was found that the settling time value and integral total weighted absolute value error (ITAE) value of the SCSO method were the best compared to other methods.

Abstract

Abstract

Rapid development and population growth in urban areas have caused various problems, one of which is the decreasing availability of clean water. This has an impact on the agricultural and fisheries sectors which are highly dependent on good water quality. As an alternative to overcome this problem, the aquaponic system offers a solution by combining fish and plant cultivation in one efficient water recirculation system. However, the quality and productivity of the aquaponic system are highly dependent on good management, which requires proper monitoring and control of environmental conditions such as temperature, pH, humidity, and water quality. This study aims to design and build a Node-RED-based aquaponic monitoring and control system. This system uses various sensors to monitor environmental conditions and provide automatic control of parameters that affect plant and fish growth. By using Node-RED as a platform for sensor and control integration, this system is expected to provide an efficient and affordable solution to increase the productivity of the aquaponic system. The results of the study show that the designed tool can carry out effective monitoring and control of parameters that affect the aquaponic system, and can be accessed in real-time to facilitate system management and supervision.
