Abstract

Garbage is the solid residue of our daily activities and natural processes. Garbage has become a worldwide and Indonesian issue. Households generate the most garbage, followed by conventional markets. Food/vegetable trash accounts for 52% of Tanah Datar District waste, followed by plastic (17%) and paper/cardboard (13%). Nagari Tigo Jangko Traditional Market generates approximately 128,987 tons of garbage every year, with a total of 10,695 tons per month and 6,874 kg per day, with an average of 370.92 tons transported. The purpose of this research is to investigate the factors influencing garbage segregation at Nagari Tigo Jangko Traditional Market. This is a quantitative study using a cross-sectional design. The study was conducted during April until May of 2023. The research sample was all traders at Nagari Tigo Jangko Traditional Market, totaling 115 traders, the sampling technique used Total Sampling. Data analysis was performed univariate and bivariate with the Chi-Square test (α = 0.05). The results of the bivariate analysis showed that there was no relationship between knowledge (P = 0.121 > α = 0.05), education (P = 0.196 > α = 0.05) and those related to action (P = 0.00 <α = 0.05), facilities and infrastructure (P = 0.00 < α = 0.05) with waste segregation. It is suggested to the market to provide facilities and infrastructure such as trash bins which are divided into 2 types in each stall, as well as to impose sanctions on traders who litter.

Abstract

Rice is one of the basic foodstuffs that is easily processed, easily served, tasty and contains a source of protein as a source of energy. Chlorine that is in rice can harm the respiratory system and will erode the intestine in the stomach (corrosive), as a result the stomach will be prone to ulcer disease, and in the long run chlorine will cause liver and kidney cancer. The purpose of this study is to identify and determine the chlorine content in rice circulating at the Cik Puan Traditional Market in Pekanbaru City. Fourteen samples of rice were taken from traders in the Cik Puan Traditional Market, Pekanbaru City. Chlorine is tested by the color reaction method. The results showed that fourteen rice samples did not contain chlorine. Rice sold at the Cik Puan Traditional Market in Pekanbaru City does not contain chlorine and is safe for consumption.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an infectious disease that remains prevalent in Indonesia, caused by the dengue virus transmitted through the bite of mosquitoes from the Aedes genus. The community in RT 02/RW 14 lacks understanding of the life cycle and breeding habitats of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes, as evidenced by the presence of water-holding containers around homes and poor behavioral changes among residents. Therefore, education is necessary to explain the types of plants that can repel mosquitoes in residential areas. This educational activity was attended by 20 participants, focusing exclusively on the women of the PKK (Family Welfare Movement) in RT 02/RW 14, Tuah Karya Village. The educational material covered the characteristics, life cycle, and behavior of Aedes aegypti, as well as the features and types of plants that can repel these mosquitoes. Knowledge assessment was conducted through pre-tests and post-tests before and after the educational sessions. The pre-test results revealed that 61.7% of participants had poor knowledge, while 38.3% demonstrated good knowledge. Post-test results showed a significant improvement, with only 17.5% having poor knowledge and 82.5% achieving good knowledge. This health education program through counseling proved to be an effective preventive measure against the transmission of dengue fever.

Abstract

Dermatitis is a skin disease that affects the surface of the skin, caused by fungi, viruses, germs, and bacteria. This study aims to determine the relationship between sanitation and personal hygiene with the incidence of dermatitis in the community within the working area of Puskesmas Garuda. The study employed a quantitative method with a case-control design and consecutive sampling technique. The study population consisted of 531 cases and 35,518 controls, with a total sample of 128 respondents (64 cases and 64 controls). Data were analyzed using univariate and bivariate analysis with the Chi-Square test. The results showed a significant relationship between sanitation, personal hygiene, and the incidence of dermatitis, including clean water facilities (P-value = 0.001; OR = 3.462), waste disposal facilities (P-value = 0.0001; OR = 5.000), hand, foot, and nail hygiene (P-value = 0.0001; OR = 4.522), skin hygiene (P-value = 0.0001; OR = 4.041), and bed cleanliness (P-value = 0.0001; OR = 4.505). It is recommended that Puskesmas provides education to the community on the importance of maintaining personal and environmental hygiene to prevent disease. This includes the use of closed waste bins, sorting waste from the household level, and regular waste disposal. Hand, foot, and nail hygiene should also be maintained through regular handwashing, cleaning of feet, and trimming of nails. Routine assistance is necessary to create a clean home environment and support the implementation of clean and healthy living behaviors. Keywords: Sanitation, Personal Hygiene, Dermatitis
