Abstract

Agriculture plays a pivotal role in the human economy, serving as one of the most vital and productive sectors. Despite its significance, many agricultural practices continue to adhere to local customs and traditions, often neglecting the principles outlined in sharia mu'amalah, the Islamic commercial jurisprudence that governs economic activities, including agriculture. The core issue lies in the structure and execution of the Sapaduoan Sawah contract, which, while superficially resembling muzara'ah, diverges in several critical aspects. These discrepancies include the terms of the contract, the process of implementation, and alterations made during the contract period, all of which contribute to the invalidation of the Sapaduoan Sawah agreement under sharia law. The research conducted in Koto Baru-Koto Tuo Village, employing a qualitative field study approach, aims to analyze these deviations and explore the possibility of aligning the Sapaduoan Sawah system with the principles of the muzara'ah contract. The findings indicate that the current practices within the Sapaduoan Sawah system not only fail to meet the requirements of muzara'ah but also involve contractual changes that further compromise the integrity of the agreement. These alterations, often made without mutual consent or proper consideration of Islamic legal principles, result in a damaged and voided contract, highlighting the need for reform and education within the community to ensure that agricultural practices align with the ethical and legal standards of sharia mu'amalah. This research underscores the importance of integrating traditional agricultural systems with Islamic jurisprudence to promote fairness, transparency, and justice in economic transactions.

Abstract

This qualitative study investigates the impact of Catha edulis (qat) consumption on the economic and social well-being in Yemen, employing the Maqashid Syari'ah framework and a review of relevant literature. Based on secondary data from prior research and sources on Maqashid Syari'ah, the study reveals that qat consumption has significant negative effects on Yemeni society. Socially, it leads to diminished productivity, higher unemployment, and strained family relationships. Economically, the expense of qat diverts resources from essential needs, worsening poverty. Additionally, excessive qat use is linked to health issues, such as oral diseases and psychological problems, which further deteriorate societal well-being. The analysis, viewed through the Maqashid Syari'ah perspective which aims to protect and promote the well-being of individuals and society highlights a misalignment between qat’s socio-cultural benefits and Shariah objectives of safeguarding health, wealth, and family integrity. The study concludes with recommendations for policy and community strategies to address the adverse impacts of qat and foster a more comprehensive approach to improving well-being in Yemen

Abstract

Parenting style is an essential factor for social anxiety, but research from different countries showed inconsistent empirical evidence. Therefore, this research examines the influence of parenting style (parental demandingness and responsiveness) on social anxiety among high school students in Indonesia. Four hundred high school students in Palembang City, Indonesia, were involved, with girls (n=244, 61%) and boys (n=156, 39%). The results of path analysis using the Mplus 7 showed that maternal (β=-0.123; p=0.001) and paternal demandingness (β=-0.149; p=0.020) significantly negatively influence social anxiety. For the responsive parenting style, the results found that maternal (β=0.035; p=0.026) and paternal responsiveness (β=0.649; p=0.000) positively influence high school students' social anxiety. Parenting styles explain 35.3% of social anxiety variance. This finding become a reference as a program to intervene in students’ social anxiety based on demanding and responsive parenting styles.
