Abstract

Lombok waters are a potential commodity area for fishing. One of the potential commodities caught is the octopus species from the octopodidae family. A recent study revised the generic taxonomy of the Octopodidae family, and several groups of species previously included in Octopus are now recognized as independent genera. However, knowledge of the phylogenetic relationships among taxa in the Octopodidae family is still lacking. This study aims to identify octopuses belonging to the genus Octopus in Lombok Waters, namely: Sari Gong Beach, Ketapang Beach, Beraringan Beach, Cemara Lembar Beach molecularly. The study was conducted from January to June 2024. Octopus samples caught by fishermen were analyzed morphologically and molecularly. The study will be conducted for 6 months from January to June 2024 in Lombok Waters. Octopus sampling was carried out once a month, observations representing the conditions of the dry season and rainy season with an interval of 30 days. The research methods used include: octopus sampling, identification, molecular identification, alignment of 16S rRNA gene nucleotide sequences, genetic distance. It is hoped that this study will be useful for providing basic information on octopus species belonging to the genus Octopus found in Lombok Waters. This information can be used for further studies on octopus biology, octopus resource potential, and studies on octopus resource management strategies in Lombok Waters. The octopus species caught in Lombok Waters were identified morphologically and molecularly as Octopus cyanea. In addition, the nucleotide base sequence can be used to design specific COI gene primers for O. cyanea

Abstract

Spiny lobsters (Panulirus homarus) are a high-value fishery commodity with strong demand in both local and international markets. Ujung Betok, located on the coast of East Lombok, is a center for spiny lobster aquaculture using floating net cages (FNC). Despite growing production, a common issue observed during transport is the decline in lobster quality, and in some cases, mortality, which significantly reduces market value. To address this problem, technical training was conducted focusing on post-harvest handling and transportation techniques aimed at preserving lobster quality up to the point of delivery. The activity was carried out through field surveys, educational sessions, and hands-on practical demonstrations at the FNC sites in Ujung Betok. Effective post-harvest handling is indicated by the lobster's ability to survive transport in healthy, undamaged condition, maintaining freshness equivalent to that at harvest. The post-harvest procedure includes sorting, holding, cold stunning, packaging, and transportation. Drier packaging methods have shown to significantly extend survival during transit. The fundamental principle of spiny lobster handling and packaging is to maintain product quality while minimizing physical injury and stress, both of which can lead to mortality.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is one of the most widely cultivated aquaculture commodities due to its high market demand and ability to grow intensively. However, intensive systems often generate environmental issues, especially from excess feed and ammonia waste. This study aimed to determine the best combination of aren palm sap and molasses as organic carbon sources in fermented feed to improve the growth and survival of L. vannamei. The research was conducted over 45 days using an experimental method and a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of six treatments and three replications, totaling 18 experimental units. The treatments included: P1 (control feed), P2 (feed + 10 ml/kg aren sap), P3 (feed + 10 ml/kg molasses), P4 (5 ml/kg aren sap + 5 ml/kg molasses), P5 (2.5 ml/kg aren sap + 7.5 ml/kg molasses), and P6 (7.5 ml/kg aren sap + 2.5 ml/kg molasses). The research included feed fermentation, shrimp rearing, water quality monitoring, and sampling. The best results were observed in treatment P5, which yielded the highest protein content in feed (32.98%), total bacteria (1,249,000 CFU), absolute weight gain (4.48 g), length gain (5.8 cm), specific growth rate (7.84%/day), feed efficiency (79.88%), and lowest feed conversion ratio (1.25). The combination of 2.5 ml/kg aren sap and 7.5 ml/kg molasses is recommended to enhance shrimp growth and feed utilization without negatively impacting water quality.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of various types of lime on the success of spawning and growth of Rainbow Boesemani fish larvae (Melanotaenia boesemani). The method used was an experiment with a completely randomized design (CRD), involving the treatment of CaCO₃, CaMg(CO₃)₂, MgCO₃, and control, each repeated three times. Data were collected and analyzed using analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the calculation of mineral administration efficiency based on the ratio of the number of larvae produced to the total potential larvae. The results showed that the administration of CaMg(CO₃)₂ produced the highest efficiency of 96.12% with the number of larvae reaching 248, followed by MgCO₃ with an efficiency of 90% and the number of larvae 225. At the same time, CaCO₃ produced the highest number of larvae (923) but the rate of larval mortality was also quite high, and its efficiency reached 24.6%. In addition, the measured water quality showed that the CaMg(CO₃)₂ treatment was able to maintain the pH and mineral stability of the water optimally, which contributed to the successful reproduction and survival of the larvae. Based on these results, the administration of CaMg(CO₃)₂ and MgCO₃ is suggested as an effective mineral material in increasing the success of Rainbow Boesemani fish spawning sustainably. This study emphasizes the importance of mineral adjustment in the aquaculture environment to increase the productivity and efficiency of ornamental fish cultivation.

Abstract

The cultivation of African catfish (Clarias gariepinus) using a biofloc system is an aquaculture technology that integrates waste management and the production of natural feed in situ, thereby enhancing productivity efficiently. This research aimed to evaluate the effect of EM4 probiotic application in a biofloc system on the growth and survival rate of catfish under different stocking densities. The experiment was conducted using a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with four stocking density treatments: P1 (30 fish/30 L), P2 (40 fish/30 L), P3 (50 fish/30 L), and P4 (60 fish/30 L), each with three replications. Observed parameters included absolute weight and length growth, floc content, hematocrit, hemoglobin, erythrocytes, leukocytes, differential leukocytes and water quality parameters. The treatment P4 showed the most notable effects, with a final absolute weight gain of 11.66 grams and an absolute length increase of 8.11 cm. Furthermore, the probiotic addition had a significant impact on erythrocyte levels and differential leukocyte counts. In contrast, the use of probiotics in the biofloc system did not result in significant differences in hematocrit levels, total leukocyte counts, or biofloc volume.

Abstract

Sea urchins are a highly nutritious and economically valuable fishery product. In West Nusa Tenggara (NTB), particularly in Lombok, the public is still largely unaware of the benefits and market value of sea urchins in international markets such as Japan and Korea. Sea urchin gonads are consumed by Koreans and Japanese, and their high nutritional content is believed to improve health performance. However, there are obstacles in the sea urchin market development is the lack of proper standard operating procedures in post-harvest handling. Appropriate and standardized post-harvest techniques are not yet widely known or disseminated among sellers and sea urchin business actors. Prima Nusantara Cooperative is one of the cooperatives that supplies fishery products, including sea urchins, to exporting companies. Based on this, the current community service activity was conducted at Prima Nusantara Cooperative in East Lombok, targeting the cooperative staff. The aim is to provide both theoretical socialization and hands-on training to enhance the staff’s knowledge and skills in post-harvest handling of sea urchins. Through this technical guidance, it is expected that the quality of sea urchin products sold to exporters will improve and be more competitive in the Japanese and Korean markets. The method used during the technical training included presentation of materials on proper sea urchin handling procedures, followed by field practice involving sea urchin sampling, hands-on demonstrations, and direct mentoring through each stage of the process. The post-harvest handling stages included harvesting (collection), cleaning, shell breaking, rinsing, weighing, packaging, and storage at low temperatures.
