Abstract

The larval stages in vannamei shrimp can be referred to as vulnerable stages that are prone to experiencing environmental crises, mainly due to the inadequate availability of food. Chaetoceros sp. is commonly used as a natural food source because it contains high nutrition that fulfills the larva's requirements for survival. However, the lack of proficiency in proper culture techniques impacts the success of cultivating Chaetoceros sp. as natural food. The objective of this study is to understand the culture techniques and challenges in cultivating natural food and to assess the effects of feeding Chaetoceros sp. on vannamei larvae (Litopenaeus vannamei). The data obtained in this study were analyzed descriptively, meticulously presenting the findings in a clear manner. In laboratory-scale Erlenmeyer culture, the peak plankton growth reached 15.3 million cells/mL, whereas in the Carboy, the density reached up to 5.1 million cells/ml. On the intermediate scale, plankton growth started at 550,000 cells/ml on the first day and increased to 1.8 million cells/mL on the eighth day. The effect of feeding Chaetoceros sp. as natural food source for vannamei larvae resulted in meeting the nutritional needs for the shrimp's body, contributing to the larval development with a relatively high survival rate of approximately 85%.

Abstract

Sampah merupakan sesuatu yang tidak berguna dan menjadi sumber awal pencemaran lingkungan. Sehingga perlu dilakukan upaya penanggulangan yaitu dengan mendaur ulang atau mengolah sampah yang telah dibuang khususnya sampah yang sulit terurai seperti plastik. Penggunaan kembali sampah-sampah plastik ini harus dijadikan budaya oleh seluruh elemen masyarakat agar terbiasa mengolah serta menggunakan kembali sesuatu yang tidak memiliki nilai jual tersebut untuk meminimalisir jumlah sampah di berbagai wilayah terutama di wilayah konservasi. Kegiatan ini bertujuan mengenalkan siswa/i sekolah dasar mengenai sumberdaya perairan dan gambaran lautan yang tercemar sampah serta mengolah sampah, dalam mewujudkan kelestarian ekosistem laut khususnya kawasan konservasi TWP GITA NADA. Mahasiswa Universitas Mataram juga menjadi bagian dari pelaksanaan kegiatan tersebut yang dilaksanakan pada Maret 2024 di Dermaga Tawun, Desa Sekotong Barat, Kecamatan Sekotong, Kabupaten Lombok Barat, Nusa Tenggara Barat. Perlombaan diikuti oleh siswa/i sekolah dasar di Desa Sekotong Barat. Kegiatan dimulai dengan sosialisasi tentang pentingnya mengelola sampah, melalui lomba ecobrick yang merupakan salah satu upaya kreatif untuk memanfaatkan sampah plastik. Kegiatan ecobrick dilakukan dengan mengumpulkan sampah-sampah anorganik dan mengolahnya sehingga dapat mengurangi sampah anorganik yang susah terurai. Sedangkan kegiatan mewarnai dilaksanakan dengan tema konservasi laut. Melalui kegiatan mewarnai, peserta dapat mengenal dan mengetahui keanekaragaman yang ada di dalam perairan dan ekosistemnya selain itu juga bertujuan dalam menyalurkan kreativitas para peserta. Kedua kegiatan ini diharapkan dapat menanamkan kesadaran para siswa/i pentingnya menjaga laut dari sampah yang dapat merusak ekosistem laut. Kegiatan tersebut dapat mengenalkan siswa/i  keanekaragaman perairan dan mampu memberikan edukasi pentingnya menjaga ekosistem laut dengan tidak membuang sampah sembarangan

Abstract

Masalah stunting masih menjadi tantangan serius di Desa Grimak Indah, Lombok Barat, dengan prevalensi yang cukup tinggi di kalangan anak-anak. Upaya pencegahan stunting melalui peningkatan asupan gizi sangat diperlukan, salah satunya melalui pemanfaatan sumber protein yang terjangkau dan mudah diakses oleh masyarakat setempat. Oleh karena itu, program pengabdian ini bertujuan untuk memberikan pelatihan budidaya ikan nila dengan menggunakan kolam terpal sebagai solusi praktis dan ekonomis untuk meningkatkan ketahanan pangan dan asupan protein di desa tersebut. Kegiatan pelatihan meliputi berbagai aspek teknis budidaya ikan nila, seperti persiapan dan pembuatan kolam terpal, pemilihan bibit unggul, teknik pemberian pakan, serta pengelolaan kualitas air dan kesehatan ikan. Selain itu, program ini juga memberikan edukasi mengenai pentingnya konsumsi protein hewani dalam pencegahan stunting, serta bagaimana memanfaatkan hasil budidaya secara optimal. Hasil dari pelatihan ini diharapkan dapat meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan masyarakat Desa Grimak Indah dalam budidaya ikan nila, sehingga dapat memperkuat ketahanan pangan keluarga dan berkontribusi dalam upaya pencegahan stunting di wilayah tersebut. Keberhasilan program ini diukur melalui peningkatan jumlah kolam terpal yang dibangun dan produksi ikan nila yang stabil, serta peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat akan pentingnya asupan gizi yang seimbang.

Abstract

Community service activities carried out by the Deep Blue Sea Foundation and Mataram University KKN-MBKM students in Tawun Hamlet, West Sekotong Village, got a positive response from the local community. This event involved various parties, such as the Lombok Marine Aquaculture Center (BPBL) and security forces, which showed strong cross-sector collaboration. This activity aims to increase environmental awareness by involving 78 students from seven elementary schools through various activities, such as beach cleaning and eco-brick making. Beach clean-ups were the focus of the activity, with students divided into groups to collect rubbish from the coastal environment. As a result, 116 kg of waste was collected, consisting of 55 kg of organic waste and 61 kg of inorganic waste. The rubbish is then taken to the available waste management facilities. Students also play an active role in mentoring and facilitating activities, showing positive synergy between universities and the community. This activity is expected to have a positive impact on environmental cleanliness and public awareness of the importance of environmentally sound behavior. Therefore, similar activities are recommended to be integrated into the school curriculum and replicated in other regions to encourage changes in people’s behavior towards a sustainable lifestyle.

Abstract

Vaname shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) is a fishery commodity that is the largest contributor to exports compared to other commodities. The success of shrimp survival and growth cannot be separated from the molting process, which requires calcium. The calcium that absorbed from the cultivation media can play a greater role in the process of exoskeleton formation. Dolomite lime (CaMg(CO3)) and tohor (CaO) can be sources of calcium that can be added to cultivation media. The research method used in this study was a completely randomized design (CRD) consisting of 5 different treatments (A: without additional lime, B: 0.8 gr dolomite, C: 0.8 gr tohor, D: 0.3 gr dolomite + 0.5 gr of tohor, E: 0.5 gr of dolomite + 0.3 gr of tohor) with 3 repetitions. The results showed that the addition of lime at different doses provided a molting frequency ranging from 2.07 – 3.23 times during the 60 days rearing period, where treatment E was the optimum treatment. The absolute weight growth obtained ranged from 2.52 gr – 5.03 gr, with an absolute length of 5.25 cm – 9.11 cm. The highest survival rate during maintenance in treatment E reached 72%. The water quality conditions measured during the activity were alkalinity 135 – 146 ppm, Ca hardness 132.74 – 172.39 ppm, temperature 29.9 – 30.3°C, DO 6.3 – 6.5 mg/l, pH 7 .9 – 8.3 and salinity 32 -34 ppt.

Abstract

Microplastics have become a major concern in global environmental research due to their significant impact on marine ecosystems. Microplastic pollution has been detected in almost all aquatic environments, including oceans, rivers and lakes. This study aims to evaluate the level of microplastic contamination in the digestive organs of old parrot fish caught in Ekas Bay. Focusing on the digestive organs is important because ingested microplastics can have detrimental effects on fish health, including digestive disorders and bioaccumulation of harmful chemicals. The research method used was descriptive with a sample size of six parrot fish. Based on research conducted on the digestive organs of parrot fish, it was found that the types of microplastics found were in the form of fragments, films, pellets and fibers. The total abundance of microplastics in the intestinal organs ranges from 290 par/gr to 410 par/gr, while in the stomach organs it is 272 par/gr to 310 par/gr. The highest percentage of microplastics in the intestinal organs was pellets at 47% and in the stomach organs it was fragments at 54%.

Abstract

Nemo fish cultivation activities at BPBL (Balai Perikanan Budidaya Laut) is located in West Sekotong, West Lombok Regency, West Nusa Tenggara. It is one of the technical implementation units for marine aquaculture in developing marine fish farming activities such as ornamental nemo or clown fish. The purpose of this activity is to determine the spawning of nemo fish carried out on an aquarium scale. Clown fish spawning activity at BPBL Lombok produces up to 1,050 eggs in a period, but the average fertilized is 1,012 eggs, and the hatching numbers are 884 eggs during 6 days of incubation and the time needed to start hatching is 24 hours. Some of the parameters of larval growth from eggs, namely FR / Fertilization Rate, get a result of 96%, HR (Hatching Rate) gets a value of 87%, SR (Survival Rate) with a value of 92%. Water quality such as the ideal temperature in nemo fish cultivation is in the range of 27-32°C, while the ideal pH is 6.7-8.8. Dissolved oxygen is more than 5 mg/L. The salinity and ammonia content obtained are ideal, which showing value 30-34 ppt for salinity and ammonia levels less than 3 mg/L.

Abstract

This study investigates microplastic contamination in whiteleg shrimp (Litopenaeus vannamei) cultivation systems, focusing on water, feed, and shrimp health. Microplastics, which pose significant threats to aquaculture, are often ingested by shrimp, potentially causing physiological damage and reducing product quality. The research was conducted from June to September 2024 at PT—X in North Lombok Regency. Samples of water, shrimp organs (intestines, stomach, and gills), and feed (pellets and crumbles) were analyzed for microplastic contamination. Results revealed a high presence of microplastic fragments in both shrimp and feed, with a significant reduction in microplastic particles after water filtration treatment. Specifically, the water reservoir contained 71 microplastic particles before treatment, with fragments being the most prevalent, and decreased to 8 particles post-treatment. The pelleted feed showed 102 microplastic particles, with fragments comprising 90 of them. Similarly, crumble feed contained 49 microplastic particles, predominantly fragments. The findings emphasize the significant role of microplastic pollution from the surrounding environment and the feed production process in shrimp farming. This study provides essential insights into the sources and impact of microplastics on shrimp health and the quality of aquaculture products, advocating for improved management practices and environmental awareness to mitigate contamination risks.

Abstract

Program pengabdian masyarakat ini dilaksanakan di Desa Peteluan Indah, Kecamatan Lingsar, Kabupaten Lombok Barat, dengan tujuan untuk meningkatkan manajemen kesehatan ikan hias bagi para penjual. Tantangan yang dihadapi para penjual adalah kurangnya pengetahuan tentang praktik yang tepat dalam menjaga kesehatan ikan, yang mengakibatkan tingginya angka kematian ikan dan penurunan kualitas ikan yang dijual. Melalui pelatihan dan pendampingan, para penjual ikan hias dibekali pengetahuan dan keterampilan tentang kebersihan kolam dan peralatan, pemberian pakan yang tepat, serta pengelolaan kualitas air dan pencegahan penyakit. Metode yang digunakan meliputi pemetaan kebutuhan, pelatihan teknis, pendampingan lapangan, dan evaluasi hasil. Hasil program menunjukkan adanya penurunan angka kematian ikan dan peningkatan kualitas ikan, yang berdampak langsung pada peningkatan penjualan dan pendapatan penjual ikan hias. Kesimpulannya, program ini berhasil meningkatkan pengetahuan dan keterampilan para penjual ikan hias dalam manajemen kesehatan ikan. Untuk keberlanjutan, pelatihan berkala dan dukungan fasilitas seperti laboratorium sederhana dan akses pakan berkualitas dengan harga terjangkau sangat diperlukan

Abstract

Dalam rangka menjaga kawasan konservasi lingkungan pesisir, sangat diperlukan berbagai kegiatan yang mendukung dan meningkatkan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya konservasi. Salah satu kegiatan yang dilakukan yaitu melalui Lomba Kayak di Pantai Tawun Sekotong, yang diadakan pada tanggal 2 Maret 2024. Kegiatan ini telah menunjukkan potensi besar dalam mempromosikan pariwisata berkelanjutan dan olahraga ekstrem di Lombok Barat. Selain itu kegiatan ini juga merupakan bagian dari peningkatan kesadaran masyarakat terhadap pentingnya menjaga kawasan konservasi wilayah pesisir. Acara ini diikuti oleh kurang lebih 50 peserta dari berbagai daerah di Indonesia dan mancanegara, tidak hanya menguji kepiawaian peserta dalam mengarungi laut, tetapi juga menjadi sarana edukasi dan konservasi. Dengan Dermaga Tawun sebagai titik start, peserta mengayuh lebih dari 10 kilometer hingga mencapai garis finish di Gili Gede, menikmati keindahan laut Sekotong yang eksotis. Kegiatan ini juga mendapat dukungan dari Kementerian Kelautan dan Perikanan RI, yang menekankan pentingnya pemanfaatan kawasan konservasi sebagai sumber ekonomi yang menjanjikan. Lomba Kayak Pantai Tawun Sekotong menjadi contoh kolaborasi harmonis antara olahraga, konservasi, dan pariwisata, serta memberikan dampak positif bagi perekonomian dan kesejahteraan masyarakat setempat.
