Abstract

The aim of this research is to analyze the Transitivity System of Epic Rap Battle of Presidency, a song by SkinnyIndonesian24, which was popular in 2019. To reveal the constituents of Transitivity System, it was considered to use theory by M.A.K. Halliday about Systemic Functional Linguistics in the branch of Ideational Metafunction, and the data were analyzed by using composite qualitative descriptive method where numbers and percentage were also involved. This research shows that the song is dominated by Material Process type for about 37 occurrences (40.2%) and it is followed by 33 Relational (35.9%), 12 Mental (13.0%), 7 Behavioral (7.6%), 2 Verbal (2.2%), and 1 Existential Process (1.1%). The dominance of Material Process indicates that the Epic Rap Battle of Presidency song is on the state of Material Process where the song is mainly talk about action and event. Abstract

Nowadays, most people throughout the world learn English because English has an important role in economics, politics, and other aspects, especially for facing free trade in the ASEAN Economic Community (MEA). However, Teaching English as second language becomes more challenging to teach, particularly for young learners. In this case, Information and communication technologies (ICTs) has a pivotal role in assisting teachers in teaching and learning English and for helping students to learn English easier. Numerous scholars, educators and teachers believe that ICT has positive effects in teaching and learning English. Through ICT by incorporating local cultures and values, gender equality, and the others, it will make the activities in classroom to be more interactive and interesting. Language, cultures and IT should be embedded and incorporated. Teachers can encourage children’s motivation and improve their English abilities through ICTs. This reviews some theories of using ICTs by integrating the diversity of cultures and values either local or national and international cultures and values in the teaching and learning process. It can assist teachers to establish their teaching and learning in classrooms to be more effective, interactive, and communicative.

Abstract

This research aims to describe moral value in One Piece Anime Movie of Chopper Plus Bloom in The Winter created by Eiichiro Oda. The researchers obtained the data from the movie Video through watching, screenshot the video and copied the every single of scene in the movie video. Researchers took data only the appropriate the data which contained the moral value. The method used of this research was descriptive analysis method. The result of the research found that moral value was intrinsic moral value and three types of moral values that were the issue of human relationship with themselves, the human relationship with others, and relationship with God. Three types of those moral values shown (1) Chopper couldn’t accepted by others and It was shot by inhabitants (2) Luffy as a captain of the straw hat Pirate crew took responsibility to his crew by taking care of his crew (3) Chopper was considered as disgrace of his family because chopper has got blue nose and he was isolated by others and he found his the first friend dr Hiluluk as a form gratitude. Abstract

This research was done to reveal the dominant form of Directive Speech Act (DSA) usage in Ready or Not Movie by Guy Busick and R Christopher Murphy, which was released in 2019. To reveal the form of directive speech act used by some characters in the conversation, it was considered to use theory by Yule about the directive speech act, and the data were analyzed by using a qualitative descriptive method. This current research shows that there was 52 (fifty-two) form of directive speech act used in the movie. The detail forms were 29 (twenty-nine) or 55.7% command, 20 (twenty) or 38.4% requests, 5 (five) or 9.6% suggestions, and 3 (three) or 5.7% warnings. Abstract

This study reveals a common error in English department students writing in Indonesia, particularly in one of the private universities in Padang by extracting 25 narrative essays written by the students. The respondents are English department students of STBA Prayoga who are in the fourth semester. This research is conducted to identify the most common grammatical errors within 25 essays that were submitted as writing assignments. They were 16 women and 9 men students in the fourth semester in essay writing subject. The data were collected and identified the errors. The errors are classified into several categories and presented in frequency and percentage. The research results show that one of the most errors in students’ writing is errors in word usage and followed by errors in tense, 38%, and 28% respectively. Meanwhile, errors in using article, preposition, and conjunction are the same percentage, 8%. This research result has good potential for the students and lecturers in the future to identify and use another method in learning and teaching English.

Abstract

Gender inequality becomes one of the most challenging issues all over the world because it is one of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets and Education for All (EFA) goals to reduce gender inequality in society. Education has a pivotal role in reducing and solving social problems because education through the teaching and learning process and the materials available could shape students’ minds and perspectives. Consequently, selecting good values and vibes in the materials are needed. Most textbooks are concerned with skills and cutting-edge technology issues. One of the illustrations is English textbooks for computer science that focus on how to be a good programmer and game developer but the materials neglect the social values, contexts, and function. The aim of this study is to develop English materials gender-based content for Computer science students as well as to promote gender equality to students. The method of this study is Research and Development (R&D) proposed by Gall, Gall, & Borg. The instruments are classified into two aspects namely questionnaire and interview. It is expected that the materials developed could reduce gender inequality in the academic environment because, through textbooks or materials, teachers are able to change the students’ perspectives and behaviors. The research results show that the students believe that the materials based on gender content can encourage them to learn English and they are enthusiastic to learn the subject.

Abstract

This article explains how project-based learning is being implemented (digital storytelling) to help students in the First Semester in Bumigora University in Mataram at become more proficient speakers. The aims of this research are to find out whether Project-Based Learning (digital storytelling) can improve students’ speaking skill and to analyze the students’ learning motivation when is implemented. A test, questionnaire, interview, and observation were used to gather the data. The researchers used action research and random sampling technique. The method used mix method, quantitative and qualitative. The steps in this design are Planning, acting, observing, and reflecting. The study's conclusions showed that students' speaking abilities had improved in a number of areas, including confidence, fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. A range of speaking exercises, such as oral presentations, voice recordings, group discussions, and interviews, helped to strengthen those areas. The study's conclusions showed that pupils' speaking abilities had improved in a number of areas, including confidence, fluency, pronunciation, grammar, and vocabulary. Moreover, the mean gain of the students’ post-test was higher than the mean gain of the students’ pre-test. In the pre-test, the mean gain was 56.37; however, the students could achieve 74.05 in the post-test. In addition, students’ learning motivation increased in terms of: students involve in learning process, students solve the problem and search the issue, students try to work harder to avoid the failure. A demanding multimedia-based project in which students generated digital stories might give meaningful experience and increase improvement students’ spoken ability.
